See Europe. The French Riviera. St Peter’s Basilica. The Brandenburg Gate. Christmas Markets. Ski in Austria.

Share Europe. Meet 18-35 year olds from all over the world. Make friends for a month, and know them forever. Love Europe. We’re a family-owned business and we’ve been travelling the world since 1962. We’ll never stop.

It’s always different. It’s always fun. It’s always an adventure. That’s the Contiki spirit.

Here’s why people come from all over the world to see Europe with us.

Meet

ContikiMeet people your age. Make friends from all over the world, who love travelling and want to have a good time.

Only for 18-35s. No younger, no older.

Lugging a heavy backpack in the rain? Getting lost? Hanging around, wasting time? Not with Contiki. We do the hard work for you. So you can get on with having a good time.

You can also use the Contiki Basement as your London HQ. Store luggage there. Meet people. And get useful info about London, like tips on the cheapest price for shows, how to get around on the Underground and the best place to exchange money.

Lots of holiday. Less hassle.

The best time of day to see the Mona Lisa in Paris? We’ll tell you. The tastiest paella in Barcelona? We’ll show you. The most far reaching views in the Swiss Alps? We’ll take you there.

Where to go. What to see. How to get there. Our crew don’t learn from a guidebook. They’re put through their paces on an intensive training trip of Europe. So they’ve studied hard, made the grade and they’re ready to help.

The best bits. And more of them.

In 1962 New Zealander John Anderson went to London. He had an idea. He hired a minibus. He filled it with young people who wanted to travel. They toured Europe together. And Contiki was born.

48 years later, the Contiki spirit is stronger than ever. We travel to even more places in Europe - and beyond. We have more fun. We meet more people. And we’re trusted by travellers all over the world.

Still exploring. 48 years on.

Check contiki.com to see our latest tours, and Definite Departure dates (our most popular tours that are guaranteed to go).

We travel to over 40 countries throughout the world, across 5 continents.

Know. Then go.

All our tours have free time, every day. So you’ll get plenty of time to do your own thing. Explore the backstreets, find a great place for a bite, or just sit back and chill. It’s your free time, and it’s completely flexible.

There’s even more things you can do with our Explore More optional activities (page 7). Whatever you’re into - art, adventure sports, music or food - we’ll sort it out and we’ve negotiated great prices for you.

Free time. Your time.

Your Contiki tour gets you lots of extras, for no extra cash. A private motorboat in Venice. A night tour of Paris with champagne. A guided tour of the Acropolis in Athens. All included (plus more).

You’ll know exactly what you get for your money, so you can plan your trip (and your budget) before you go. More on pages 6 & 9.

Then there are the extras you can’t buy. Like charging your phone and gadgets as you travel. There’s more unique Contiki extras on page 10.

More extras. For less.

Tour ManagerThink of your Tour Manager as your walking, talking guidebook. They’re there to help you make the most of each day. That’s because they know their stuff – facts on where you’re going, the best things to see & ideas for your free time.

Tour DriverHandling jam-packed city streets & fast-moving freeways, our drivers know their way around. Best of all, they’ll drop you at your door, so you won’t have to lug your bags around. Sit back until your next stop.

Modern coachesChat, sit back with your iPod, or listen to your Tour Manager tell you about where you’re going, as your driver takes you there. Our air-con coaches are the best in Europe & we update our fleet regularly to make sure they’re environmentally friendly. Then there are the Contiki extras, like reclining seats & power points for ‘charging on the go’. Just don’t forget your adaptor.

All our tours include breakfast & lots of evening meals. We don’t include every meal, especially lunches, for a reason. We give you the flexibility to explore in your free time, meet some locals & try all kinds of foods, unique to the places you visit - like a Swiss cheese fondue or French Croque Monsieur.

Got a question?Answers to frequently asked questions & things you need to know.

For more detailed information online head to contiki.com/contikipedia

Do I need visas? Please read carefully. Depending on your nationality, you may require visas to enter certain countries included in your tour. You are fully responsible for obtaining all necessary visas prior to the departure of your tour. Contiki are not legally permitted to knowingly allow anybody who does not have a valid visa to join a tour. Consult your travel agent to determine which visas you require and how to obtain them.

Schengen Visas The majority of our tours travel in countries that are covered by the Schengen Agreement which relates to visas. Citizens of many countries – eg. Australia, United States, Canada, New Zealand – can travel in the Schengen area without a visa. If you require a visa to enter the Schengen area you only need to obtain one visa which will allow you to travel in all Schengen countries.

Multiple Entry Schengen Visas Schengen visas can be issued for single entry or multiple entries. If your tour travels outside of the Schengen area at any point you will require a multiple entry visa. The tour that requires multiple entry Schengen visa is listed below:Spanish Spree.

Visas for Non-Schengen Countries Some of our tours also visit countries that are not covered by the Schengen Agreement. You may require visas for countries including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Egypt. Depending on your nationality it may be possible to obtain visas for Egypt upon arrival – you should check before you depart for your tour.

Important: 1. Visas can take up to six weeks and a fee is normally charged.

2. Failure to obtain all necessary visas could cause you to miss part of your tour and will result in you incurring considerable expense and inconvenience.

3. It is better to apply for all visas through your travel agent before you leave home. Your travel agent will contact Contiki for full details.

4. Contiki will provide you with Visa contacts from our London base at the Royal National Hotel, if necessary.

Gold Seal ProtectionCoverage for Cancellation: Most tour operators are interested in their passengers only after they reach their destination. With Contiki, however, you get a great deal even before you leave home.

Pre-paid Cancellation Option NZ$99 per person: By paying NZ$99 per person Cancellation Option Fee with your deposit, the full amount of your deposit and/or payment to Contiki Holidays will be refunded should you cancel your tour for any reason prior to departure from New Zealand. This cancellation option covers the Land arrangements made by Contiki Holidays only.

On Your Tour: Should you, or your travel companion, leave at any time during the tour for personal sickness reasons or be required to return to New Zealand due to injury, sickness or death, you and your companion will be refunded NZ$40 per person per day for the unused portion of the tour. (Please note that in some cases hotels require a one night cancellation fee). A Doctor’s certificate is required.

The Cancellation Option Fee is not refundable for any reason.

Medical certificates as proof of all illness claims must be supplied.

Travel insuranceContiki Holidays strongly recommends you take out comprehensive insurance cover for cancellation, medical expenses, personal accident, personal baggage, money and public liability before you travel. You may not be accepted on a Contiki holiday unless you have arranged satisfactory insurance. You also agree to indemnify us against all third-party claims, actions, damages and remedies against us arising from your participation in the holiday.

For insurance details, please speak to your Travel Agent at the time of making your booking.

Where will I stay?Accommodation is in superior tourist class hotels, ships, and trains. These are described on page 16 and on individual tour pages. On trains in Egypt, two people share a two-berth couchette and facilities are shared. Other train journeys are as detailed in individual itineraries. On overnight ships, cabins with facilities are provided. Depending on the numbers and configuration on your tour, availability of singles can sometimes be limited in some locations. On certain occasions, alternative hotels to those listed in this brochure may be used. Whilst it is the Company’s intention to use hotels of a similar standard and location, no liability can be accepted for any variation of either.Ski holidays: Refer to pages 38-41 for details of accommodation in Austria.

What’s included?• Coach, train, air transfers, and ferry

transport as specified.• Accommodation, breakfast and evening

meals as detailed on pages 10, 12 & 14 and under ‘What’s included’ on tour pages.

• Sightseeing as detailed on pages 6 and in the itineraries on tour pages. Unless specified, entrance fees are not included.

• Experienced crew as detailed on page 10 and on tour pages.

What’s not included?• Personal expense money.• Visas, personal insurance, medical fees.• Sightseeing, visits and entrance

fees other than those specified on tour pages.

• Optional excursions & activities such as white water rafting, gondola rides, etc.

• Lunches (unless specified under “All this included”) and some dinners.

Will I get more information?Upon receipt of final payment, you’ll receive a copy of Contiki’s ‘Travellers Guide’ – an information book about your holiday. You’ll also receive a comprehensive day-by-day itinerary including full details and costs of all optional excursions available on your tour.

Your FREE Contiki document wallet and luggage tag* will be sent to you with your travel documents. The wallet is a safe place for your tickets and passports, something you’ll want to keep and use again.

* Contiki reserves the right to substitute an alternative travel accessory for the Contiki document wallet.

How much money do I need? You should be able to use debit and credit cards for most items. You’ll need to allow enough money to cover lunches, some dinners, souvenirs, shopping, drinks, optional excursions and activities, entrance fees to attractions and evening entertainment.

It is advisable to start your tour with some cash in local currencies such as Euro, Swiss Franc and Great British Pounds.

Explore more Optional ActivitiesWhen do I choose? Optionals are arranged and paid for on tour. By leaving the final decisions until then you can choose at the same time as your new friends, you’ll get great value as we get you great rates and your Tour Manager can offer personal advice. Some activities are seasonal and weather dependent as well.

How do I pay? You pay on tour in cash (Euro, Swiss Francs, Great British Pound or US$ only).

Am I expected to tip on tour?Every country in the world has different tipping policies and in Europe, within service industries, tipping is common practice. Tipping is totally discretionary and only given if you feel the service has met or exceeded your expectations. Your Tour Manager will assist you with any questions about this while you’re on the road. The same idea applies to your Contiki Crew - if you think they have done a good job then they would be grateful for your recognition by way of a tip, however this is not mandatory – it’s completely up to you.

Brochure authenticityWe have put a great deal of effort into producing this brochure. The information given and literature produced by Contiki has been compiled with care and is published in good faith. Sometimes, because of circumstances outside our control, we have to alter some excursions due to seasonal closing or repairs to buildings, etc., especially early or late in the season. If this happens, alternatives will be arranged.

SecurityContiki has been running tours for young people since 1962 and in all countries where Contiki operates we fully comply with local industry laws. In New Zealand, Contiki is an allied member of the Travel Agents Association of New Zealand (TAANZ) and a full member of the New Zealand Inbound Tour Operators Council (ITOC). Contiki is a Qualmark endorsed inbound tour operator.

How much luggage can I bring?Luggage is restricted to a maximum suitcase size of 73cm x 50cm x 25cm (29” x 20” x 10”) and maximum weight of 20 kg (44lbs) plus one small hand/day bag that can go on the coach with you. On Ski Holidays you may bring one pair of ski boots and skis or a snowboard. Any luggage over the restricted size or amount can be stored with Contiki in London at a nominal charge. Baggage is carried at the owner’s risk and baggage insurance is strongly recommended.

Do I need vaccinations? At the time this brochure went to press (June 2010), no vaccinations were necessary. However, it is wise to check up-to-date information with your travel agent prior to departure. Don’t forget to bring with you any medication that you may require en route, such as antihistamines, antibiotics.

• At the time of booking, you must pay to your travel agent a non-refundable deposit of NZ$200 per person per tour which must be sent to Contiki within 7 days. This payment is in addition to any deposit required by your travel agent.

• Once your deposit has been received, Contiki will send your travel agent confirmation of the details of the booking.

• You must pay the balance of your holiday fare to Contiki through your travel agent not less than 45 days before the tour departure date, or at the time of booking if less than 45 days before the tour departure date.

• We will then send to your travel agent your travel vouchers and detailed information about your holiday. The documentation will be sent approximately 21 days prior to your departure.

IMPORTANT By paying the NZ$200 deposit per person per tour to your travel agent, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the Booking Conditions as set out on page 43, which make up the contract between you and Contiki.
