About Us

Tamilnadu Council for Open and Distance Learning (TCODL) is an ISO 9001:2015 Certified

Autonomous Council, registered and Accredited with International Council for Open and Distance Education

(ICDE), Oslo, Norway. Tamilnadu Council for Open and Distance Learning is Accredited by Quality Council of

India (QCI) and National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET) for conducting Open and

Distance Learning Courses. Also, Tamilnadu Council for Open and Distance Learning is approved by Indian

Association of Teacher Educators (IATE). Tamilnadu Council for Open and Distance Learning is a member

organisation of ASSOCHAM, Delhi, India (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India)

Tamilnadu Council for Open and Distance Learning (TCODL) promotes Non-Formal

education to students through its various courses with stress on quality, system and transparency without

prejudice based on caste, religion or gender and for betterment of school dropouts, people of deprived

section, people of remote areas, downtrodden people, differently-abled people, widows and ex-servicemen

and increase the literacy percentage of India.

At Tamilnadu Council for Open and Distance Learning, we provide Open and Distance

Education Programmes with emphasis on Quality and Service while, we have been conducting Diploma, Post

Graduate Diploma, Management and Education courses. We have also been conducting Courses which

provide special emphasis on Tamil and other Languages. Through all these courses we serve our brethren to

get benefited and have better educational credentials.

Message from the Secretary

Education distils the thought process and provides direction for the continuance of

purposeful democratic evolution of mankind. Our aim is to instil a high degree of social sensitivity through

innovation and continual commitment to personal and professional development of individuals over their

entire career. There is one thing that I am sure of and that is nothing worthwhile can be achieved in solitude.

It is the overwhelming response from our stakeholders, the students and the parents that has helped

Tamilnadu Council to see the days of glory and we want that to continue in the future too. The rules of

education are fast changing and students who adapt themselves to this fast changing scenario thrive and give

their best. Tamilnadu Council for Open and Distance Learning (TCODL) has been started with such a fore-

thinking, so that the education we provide lasts longer in the much needed format, adapting ourselves to the

changing tides of new era education. We have brought a prospectus to cater to the needs of students and

educationists. Also, I hope this prospectus will provide better insight into the courses conducted at

Tamilnadu Council and the students can choose the course from the entire gamut of courses. I wish you all a

Message from Controller of Examination

I am very happy that a prospectus has been brought in for Tamilnadu Council for Open and

Distance Learning (TCODL). The important work of Examination Division is to schedule the Examination as

per Tamilnadu Council Academic Committee’s Order and conduct the Examination in the best possible

manner. One of our strengths, I believe, is in conducting the examinations in a systematic manner year after

year. Due to our hardworking team, we have been providing results on time with very good accuracy. We are

also publishing Online Results with the state of the art technology. We are in the process of extending Online

Results to all the courses. Also, we coordinate with the concerned authorities to issue Mark Sheet and

Certificate to the students. This prospectus will serve the students and people interested in knowing about

Tamilnadu Council with complete and up- to-date information. I wish all the students of Tamilnadu Council

my best wishes to excel in their chosen field.

Objectives of Tamilnadu Council:

To enable students to pursue a career through Open & Distance Education

To increase the literacy percentage in Tamilnadu and across India.

To make people Self-Reliant through Open & Distance Education

To provide the best possible teaching and learning environment to the students, so that they can

serve the Society effectively with dignity

To provide individualized study with flexibility in terms of place and duration.

To identify educational needs of the children/persons of the State who are otherwise not catered

to by the formal system of school education and to open study/academic centres.

To provide opportunities in Distance Education and Skill Development through Open and

Distance Learning (ODL) mode.

To identify and promote approved standards of learning in Open and Distance Learning system.

To design and develop courses, Self-Instructional Materials (SIM) and other learning support for

the courses identified at different points of time.

To Promote and Publicize Open Education Programmes and Distance Education activities in the

country.

To Maintain standards and Equivalence with Formal Education system, while ensuring flexible

characteristics of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) System.

To Provide Certificate, Diploma Courses, Charter Diploma Courses, Education and Management

Courses to students from various streams.

Tamilnadu Council for Open and Distance Learning (TCODL) has been approved by International

Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) for conducting Certificate, Diploma, Post Graduate

Diploma, Charter Diploma Engineering, B.Ed and E-MBA Courses. Tamilnadu Council is a member of ICDE

since 2014 and has been a pioneer in conducting Open and Distance Education Courses in India.

Tamilnadu Council has been striving to provide quality in all its activities and has been benefited

by the initiatives taken by ICDE. Tamilnadu Council has been benefited by Technology Enhanced

Education supported by ICDE. The students who study at Tamilnadu Council have been able to get quick

International Recognition due to its approval from ICDE and have been able to get job with ease in many

foreign countries, especially, the European Union Countries.

ICDE has supported Tamilnadu Council with respect to changing pedagogies for Open Education,

B.Ed. stands for an undergraduate academic course known as Bachelor of Education. It is a course

offered for those who are interested in pursuing career in teaching and related fields. Bachelor of Education

Course can also be pursued through Correspondence or Distance Learning which is generally of 1 Year

duration. While students from Arts Stream are trained to teach subjects like History, Civics, Geography and

Career Prospects :

Electrical engineers design, develop, test, and supervise the manufacture of electrical equipment.

Some of this equipment includes electric motors; machinery controls, lighting, and wiring in buildings; radar

OVERVIEW:

TCODL’s A-MBA is a two years programme designed to meet the needs of high-achieving

Examination & Evaluation Procedure:

TCODL conducts the Examination for various Certificate / Diploma / PG. Diploma / Education /

Management Courses twice in a year. In addition to that, it is also proposed to offer On-Demand Examination

in case the number of students at any centres is more than 50. The Evaluation System has been devised to test

the skills in a comprehensive manner giving more emphasis on the Internship Component

Distance Learning (TCODL) for the successfully completed Students:

General instruction to the Students:

Before submitting the Filled in Application, the candidates should ensure their eligibility for

Admission to the Programme for which they would like to apply.

The candidates should clearly specify, the Course they have opted for, in the application.

All fees should be paid in the form of Demand Draft only, drawn in favour of “Tamilnadu Council for

Open and Distance Learning” payable on any one of the nationalized banks at Chennai.

The candidates should write their

(i)Name (ii) Application number and (iii) Programme opted on the reverse of the Demand

Draft.

Payment of fees in instalment is not permitted, except where the course is of 2 years duration. It is to

be noted that the student has to pay the fees specified for each year in full.

Fees once paid shall neither be refunded nor be adjusted towards any other payment.

Cash / Cheques will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Students should fill-up the application form in block letters in his/her own handwriting and duly sign

in the space provided.

Incomplete applications and over-written applications will be summarily rejected.

Admission to any course cannot be claimed as a matter of right.

Before submitting the application to the Centre / Council, the applicant should make note of the

application number.

Candidates should not register for two programmes in the same year.

Change of Name / Study Centre will not be permitted.

The Council reserves the right not to conduct any of the programmes if the circumstances warrant.

There will not be any separate communication from the Centre / Council for payment of second year

course fees. The second year fees has to be paid whether the candidate has taken up the

examinations or not /results declared or not.
