Farmer Pete
Myfavourite is ‘Farmer
Pete’, because I like it whenFarmer Pete goes, “Oh, dear!”
Andi, Year 2
Learning Objective Link - Number Bonds to 10Domain 2: Addition & Subtraction Year 1: Represent and use number bonds and related subtraction facts within 20 NSG: Pupils memorise and reason with number bonds to 10 and 20 in several forms
(for example, 9 + 7 = 16; 16 – 7 = 9; 7 = 16 – 9)Year 2: Recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20 fluently, and derive and use related
facts up to 100
Presentation and Prop Ideas ¾ Make 10 sheep hats and one Farmer Pete hat (you could use clip art sheep, laminated and put
on to headbands). Then act out the story as a class. ¾ Paint and laminate a picture of a farm with a big sheep pen and tractor shed. Print off and
laminate 10 clipart sheep and 1 clipart Farmer Pete from the computer. Place pieces of Velcro onto the picture and onto the back of Farmer Pete and the sheep. You will then be able to tell the story by moving the sheep from the sheep pen to the tractor shed and back again!
¾ Purchase 10 sheep puppets or make a set of 10 sheep. Then, as you sing the song, move the sheep from the ‘pen’ to the ‘tractor shed’.
¾ As you sing the song, make a number sentence using booklets with numbers on one side and sheep on the other.
¾ Use the Farmer Pete Interactive Whiteboard file; see Resources on page 53...
Adaptations and Extensions ¾ Rewrite the lyrics for another number bond. For example...
Auntie Nees, she had 5 bees, all were by the hive. 5 were safe and 0 had gone. 5 add 0 makes five. Etc....“Oh great,” said Nees, “I see my bees, and I can count all five. Watch them bring the nectar back, safely to the hive!”
¾ Make a board which is capable of holding up to 20 sheep. Then, without using the song, you can extend the learning of the class.
¾ Make a simple individual board game version of the Farmer Pete storyboard for the children to use in exploring and recording number bonds, or use the boards supplied with Activity Resource Pack 1.
ActionsYou may wish to use fingers for the three numbers on the last line of each verse.
