PREFACE SURVEY METHODOLOGY TMA has been conducting Compensation and Benefits Survey annually in order to provide our members and non-members with reliable information on compensation and benefit practices among a cross section of leading employers in the country.

In 2019, we have garnered the significant information necessary for defining the direction of human resources management, especiallyin the part of compensation and welfare. The compensation and benefits output shown in this report are represented by the employees in different level of positions from the leading organizations in Thailand, which are the driving force of the country’s whole economics, and are covering 12 major industries as follows:-

This annual survey studies the 2019 compensation and benefits scheme of 68 employers, the majority of whom are among the top 1,000 companies in Thai business community. The survey is undertaken with a view to collecting reliable data from the participating companies, with benchmark jobs being matched specifically among each industrial sector. Reporting relationship of the mentioned jobs is shown in section III for the convenience of your comparison.

Raw data were collected to ensure optimum accuracy. The report on compensation analyzed, by industrial category and jobs level, the annual base and total compen-sation as shown in Section III. Please note that this survey reports compensation data of incumbents holding a minimum of vocational onward only.

Term Explanation

Min (Minimum) The value that is the lowest of observation data.

P25 (Percentile 25)The 25th percentile or the first quartile is the value that divides the lowest 25

percent from the remaining 75 percent of data points or observations.

P50 (Percentile 50)The 50th percentile of median is the value that divides the top 50 percent from

the remaining 50 percent of data or observations.

P75 (Percentile 75)The 75th percentile or the third quartile is the value that divides the top 75

percent from the remaining 25 percent of data points or observations.

Ave (Average)The arithmetic mean of the data values that takes into account the proportional

relevance of each component, rather than treating each component equally.

Max (Maximum) The value that is the highest of observation data.

Age Average age of incumbents in each line.

JOB GRADE CLASSIFICATIONJob Grade Definition of Roles

Vice President(VP)

- Person who is Head of function in middle - large size of companies (approximately with revenue more than THB 5,000-10,000 per year)- Person who holds the highest position (Managing Director) in a middle size companies (approximately with Revenue betweenTHB 1,000-5,000 per Year)- Responsible for multi functions or a function which covers many companies within the group- Is fully experienced in overall management of entire divisions- Set policies and strategies in order to achieve company goals- Position Examples: Executive Vice President, Vice President, CFO, COO, Managing Director(conglomerate) etc.

Senior Manager(SM)

- Person who is in the high/executive position in a middle size companies (approximately with revenue between THB 1,000-5,000 per Year)- To be responsible for the overall management of a division- Set policies and strategies in order to achieve company goals- Position Examples: Assistant Vice President, Director, Division Manager, Senior Manager etc.

Middle Manager(MM)

- Person who assists in managerial scopes /a mastery or expert in each functional head- To be responsible for the day-to-day management of a department/ being as a professional consultant- Set policies and strategies within a department in order to achieve division and company goals- Is responsible for the day-to-day management of project or department function budgets- Reports directly to the senior managers or executives- Is fully experienced (more than 10 years)- Position Examples: Department Manager, Manager, Assistant Vice President etc.

Junior Manager(JM)

- Person who assists the middle manager in managerial scopes (department)- Is responsible for the day-to-day management of project or business plan that supports the company’s business strategy- Has responsibility for all staff in his own department as well as a number of supervisors- Reports directly to the middle manager- Is fully experienced (more than 7 years)- Position Examples: Section Manager , Junior Manager, Assistant Manager etc.

Supervisor(SUP)

- Person who inspects and supervises technical or professional work activities/daily work routines and also assists in the day-to-day management- Provide consultancy, advice, coaching to department staff as well as solving the ongoing problem- Reports directly to the junior manager or middle manager- Is fully experienced (4-5 years)- Position Examples: Specialist, Supervisor, Senior Officer etc.

Officer(OFF)

- Person who performs technical or professional work activities/ daily work routines- To be responsible for a broad range of technical or professional work activities/ daily work routines- Reports to the supervisor, senior officer, assistant manager or manager- Is a relatively new entrant to the profession. Will have either a degree in a related subject, or relevant experience- Usually experienced around 0-3 years- Position Examples: Engineer, Accountant, Officer etc.

Senior Staff(SST)

- Operate daily work routine by following the manual- To be responsible for job required technical skills learing from experiences.- Report to the supervisor, assistant manager or manger- Is a relatively experienced workforce with higher vocational- Usually experienced around 4-5 years.- Position Example : Technician, Accountant, Personnel Clerk etc.

Staff(ST)

- Operate daily work routine by following the manual under and monitoring and supervised by supervisor.- To be responsible for skilled work- Reports to the supervisor or assistant manager. - Is a new entrant to the profession who has higer vocational.- Usually experienced around 0-3 years.- Position Example : Technician in line operation , Accountant Clerk, Personnel Clerk etc.

This report on compensation data analyzes the monthly base and total compensation by industrial sector and by job level. The company size is categorized by taking into account both the company turnover and employees number data. Seventy percent (70%) of the turnover size and thirty percent (30%) of employment size were taken into consideration when we assigned the size to each participating company.

This sample table will read, as follows:

1. In the position of Finance Manager (AC03) an incumbent in a senior manager (SM) Level of Food & Beverage (FB)

sector gets an average of Bt. 172,268 base pay and an average of Bt. 207,775 /monthly total pay. The average

age of incumbent in this industry is 48 years old.

2. When considering the percentile figure, the P25 figure is Bt. 131,360/month, which means that 25% of the samples

in this SM Level receive less than Bt. 131,360/month. In the same manner, 50%, and 75% of the samples in the SM

Level receive less than Bt. 211,344/month. Likewise, it reads in the same manner for total pay.

3. As the level of the incumbents in each position varies, the report shows data classified by job grades to help

user with holistic picture of comparison.
