Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016 marked the 10,000th live music performance at Austin-Bergstrom

International Airport. In celebration of the milestone, airport concessionaire and live music sponsor Delaware North Companies (DNC) presented HAAM (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians) with a $10,000 donation. Grammy winner Ray Benson, front man of Asleep at the Wheel, performed along with an Austin all-star lineup including the Carolyn Wonderland Band, Shelley King, Redd Volkaert, Jackie Venson, Rick Trevino, and Wendy Colonna.

“Music is in the soul of Austin, including its airport. It’s been here from the beginning. Now we celebrate 10,000 live music performances,” said Terry Mahlum, Regional Vice President, DNC.

“It’s a milestone worthy of a big show with Ray Benson and Austin all-star musicians, plus a $10,000 donation to HAAM. We are so proud to be a part of this.”

In recognition of the airport’s music program and DNC’s support of HAAM, a proclamation was issued from Austin Mayor Steve Adler and Texas Senator Kirk Watson, along with a letter from U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett.

A distinguishing airport amenity, live music has been featured at Austin’s airport since it opened in 1999. What started as two performances per week on one stage in 1999 has grown to 21 shows per week in five different venues throughout the airport: Ray Benson’s Roadhouse, The Saxon

Pub, Annie’s Café & Bar, Earl Campbell’s Sports Bar, and Austin City Limits/Waterloo Records & Video.

Regularly scheduled performances are held Monday through Friday at various times pending location. See the schedule at www.abia.gov. Additionally, extra performances are booked for special events such as the ACL Music Festival, SXSW, and Formula 1. The airport has been a sanctioned showcase for SXSW since 2000.

All live music venues of the airport are located past security checkpoints accessible to ticketed passengers only, currently an audience of approximately 30,000-36,000 passengers each day.

Kansas City, Raleigh-Durham addedSouthwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines

have announced new daily nonstop service beginning in March 2017 from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). Delta will launch service to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) on March 9, 2017, followed by Southwest to Kansas City International Airport (MCI) on March 13, 2017.

Raleigh-Durham flights will be operated by GoJet on a CRJ-900 aircraft with 76 seats. Tickets are available at www.delta.com.

“This new non-stop connects two cities with a lot in common – a love of great outdoors, booming tech industries, and a diehard

dedication to college sports. I hope this new connection results in North Carolina learning how barbecue ought to be prepared, but regardless, I’m looking forward to a closer relationship with our new friends in Raleigh,” said Austin Mayor Steve Adler.

Southwest will fly to Kansas City on a 143-seat, Boeing 737-700. Visit www.southwest.com for tickets.

“This better connects the innovative businesses of both our growing cities,” said Jim Smith, Executive Director of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. “Plus, Austin and Kansas City’s barbeque and blues scenes just got closer.”

Airport concessionaire and live music sponsor Delaware North Companies (DNC) presented HAAM (Health Alliance for Austin Musicians) with a $10,000

donation. Grammy winner Ray Benson, front man of Asleep at the Wheel, performed along with an Austin all-star lineup.
