about today’s service
All Saints celebrates the baptized people of God, living and dead, who are the
body of Christ. As November heralds the dying of the landscape in many
northern regions, the readings and liturgy call us to remember all who have died
in Christ and whose baptism is complete. At the Lord’s table we gather with the
faithful of every time and place, trusting that the promises of God will be fulfilled
and that all tears will be wiped away in the new Jerusalem.
+ Gathering + We gather together to praise God and receive His love.
Song: “Soon and Very Soon”

Song: “One of These Days”
Verse 1
One of these days I’m gonna fly over the mountain.
One of these days I’m gonna ride on the silver lining.
One of these days I’m gonna witness all I’ve been missing, one of these days.
Verse 2
One of these days I’m gonna do all the things that I’ve never done.
I’m gonna finish all the races that I’ve run but I’ve never won.
And I’m gonna see a million faces and recognize everyone, one of these days.
Chorus
One of these days gonna see the hand that took the nails from me.
One of these days gonna hold the key to the mansion built for me.
One of these days gonna walk the streets of gold that were paved for me.
One of these days I’m gonna see my Savior face to face one of these days.
Verse 3
One of these days I’m gonna see just what became of me.
On the day that I believed when You took myself from me.
And I believe I will see what I would have been if You didn’t save me,
one of these days.
Verse 4
And one of these days I’m gonna talk with all the saints that have gone before.
And in their sandals I will walk and we will sit along the shore.
And I will learn all the things that I never knew before, all this and more.
Chorus
Bridge (4X): One of these days
Verse 5
One of these days I’ll finally be in a place where there’s no more need
No more pain and no more grief, no more foolish disbelief
And all the joy there will be when at last we finally see one of these days.

Song: “Shall We Gather at the River”
Verse 1
Shall we gather at the river,
Where bright angel feet have trod,
With its crystal tide forever
Flowing by the throne of God?
Chorus
Yes, we'll gather at the river,
The beautiful, the beautiful river;
Gather with the saints at the river
That flows by the throne of God.
Verse 2
On the margin of the river,
Washing up its silver spray,
We will talk and worship ever,
All the happy golden day.
Chorus
Verse 3
Ere we reach the shining river,
Lay we every burden down;
Grace our spirits will deliver,
And provide a robe and crown.
Chorus
Verse 4
Soon we'll reach the shining river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease;
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.
Chorus (2X) © Robert Lowry, 1826-1899

Confession and Forgiveness
P: Let us approach God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, with a true heart, in full
assurance of God’s power to hear and to forgive sins.
Silence for reflection and self-examination.
Page 6
P: Merciful God,
C: you have loved your people from the beginning of time, desiring that we
also love you and our neighbor with fullness of heart. We confess that we
often seek wealth or security for ourselves, without acting generously
toward others. Forgive us and point us in your ways, that we might reflect
your will for us and your creation. Amen.
P: God promises that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be
saved. I declare to you forgiveness of all your sins.
C: Amen.
Prayer of the Day
P: Let us pray. Almighty God, you have knit your people together in one
communion in the mystical body of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Grant us
grace to follow your blessed saints in lives of faith and commitment, and to
know the inexpressible joys you have prepared for those who love you,
through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and
the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.
C: Amen.

+ Word + We listen to the story of God’s mighty acts for the sake of His people.
First Reading 1 John 3:1-3
A saint is one who has been set apart by God for God’s purposes. God, out of divine
love, set us apart to be the children of God. Our holy hope is that we shall see God as
God really is.
1See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of
God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that
it did not know him. 2Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we will be
has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he\ is revealed,
we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. 3And all who have this hope
in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
L: The word of the Lord.
C: Thanks be to God.

Gospel Acclamation: “Let Your Steadfast Love”
Gospel Matthew 5:1-12
In the beatitudes, Jesus provides a unique description of those who are blessed with
God’s favor. His teaching is surprising and shocking to those who seek wealth, fame, and
control over others.
1When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat
down, his disciples came to him. 2Then he began to speak, and taught
them, saying: 3“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven. 4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5Blessed
are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6Blessed are those who hunger
and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7Blessed are the merciful,
for they will receive mercy. 8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see
God. 9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. 10Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is
the kingdom of heaven. 11Blessed are you when people revile you and
persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same
way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Sermon: “Sanctified!” Pastor Jennifer A. Crist
(Stand)
Nicene Creed
C: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and
earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten
of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,
begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things
were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was
incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and
was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the
Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the
Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his
kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from
the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and
glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy
catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the
forgiveness of sins. We look for the + resurrection of the dead, and the life of
the world to come. Amen.

Special Music: “Come to Jesus”
Verse 1
Weak and wounded sinner, lost and left to die;
O raise your head, for Love is passing by.
Come to Jesus, come to Jesus,
Come to Jesus and live!
Verse 2
Now your burden’s lifted and carried far away;
And precious blood has washed away the stain.
So sing to Jesus, sing to Jesus,
Sing to Jesus and live!
Verse 3
Like a newborn baby, don’t be afraid to crawl.
And remember when you walk, sometimes we fall.
So fall on Jesus, fall on Jesus,
Fall on Jesus and live!
Page 10
Verse 4
Sometimes the way is lonely, and steep and filled with pain;
So if your sky is dark and pours the rain,
Then cry to Jesus, cry to Jesus,
Cry to Jesus and live!
Verse 5
And when the love spills over, and music fills the night,
And when you can’t contain your joy inside;
Then dance for Jesus, dance for Jesus,
Dance for Jesus and live!
Verse 6
And with your final heartbeat kiss the world goodbye;
Then go in peace, and laugh on Glory’s side.
And fly to Jesus, fly to Jesus
Fly to Jesus and live!

Offering Prayer
P: Holy Lord,
C: with the action of this offering we tell your story: how you have dealt
generously with us, how you have met our needs, how you have heard our
prayers, how your goodness is from everlasting to everlasting. Bless these
offerings which are given in the name of Christ. Amen.
Great Thanksgiving
P: Christ is here.
C: The Spirit is with us.
P: With joy, we lift up our hearts.
C: And give thanks to the Lord of Life.
P: We praise you, O God, for creating the universe. With great care, you set
the earth in its place and filled it with life. Through your prophets you
promised a day of justice when the hungry would be fed; a day of
faithfulness when your law would be written on our hearts.
When we failed to live faithfully in the old covenant, you sent Jesus to
establish a new one. He offered himself on the cross, and you raised him to
life again, opening for us a new way into your presence. In this meal before
Page 11
us, your Son becomes food for our hungry hearts, and nourishes us for
eternal life.
In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread and gave
thanks; broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying: “Take and eat; this is my
body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” Again, after
supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: “This
cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the
forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
Lord's Prayer
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your
will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive
us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of
trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are
yours, now and forever. Amen.
Invitation to Holy Communion
P: God fills the hungry with good things
C: Let us come to the feast.

Sharing our Lord's Supper
All baptized Christians are welcome to celebrate the real presence of Jesus Christ
in our Lord’s Supper. Please come forward by the middle aisle, receive the bread,
dip it into the wine, and return by the side aisles. Communion may be received in
bread only, if desired. Non-communing children and adults are invited to come
forward for a blessing. As a gesture of hospitality we use dealcoholized wine (less
than .5% alcohol). In addition, we offer gluten-free wafers available upon request--
please ask the pastor at the time of communion.

Post-Communion Blessing and Prayer
P: The body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ strengthen you and keep you in
his grace.
C: Amen.
P: Let us pray. Mighty God, you are our fortress who leads us in mission and
ministry to serve our neighbor in need. Thank you for your presence in this
meal of love that unites and empowers us to worship, connect and serve.
To you be all glory and honor.
Page 12
C: Amen.
+ Sending +
We have heard the Word of God, offered our gifts, and been fed at the table.
Now we are sent out, strengthened by the Holy Spirit to be God’s people in the world.
Blessing
P: May the gracious gifts of the Lord God be upon you, and increase the work of
your hands. Almighty God, Father, + Son and Holy Spirit, bless you now and
forever.
C: Amen.
