CONTAGION

In the movie contagion, based on my observations, I learned that how critical it is to spread information in times of an epidemic. Because one critical information contains several facts that could affect many variables in a current situation. An example would be in the movie where the conspiracy theorist claims that he was recovered using a cure derived from forsythia. In that situation where in times of epidemic, the demand would increase for the cure in behalf of investors of companies producing and distributing the treatment because many people would want it. Another would be when the doctor discovers that the virus is a mixture of pig and bat viruses. If this information would be leaked, then demand for pigs and bats would dramatically decrease. We can therefore conclude that public health is a major factor that can affect economy as a whole because for the majority of people, lives are very important and precious. This is also the reason why hospitals are very expensive when life is at times needed when the person almost die. If public health is placed in a situation where people needed cure and medicines, other factors in economy would sure be affected. This film makes us learn that economics is really important when the situation is needed.
