IT SECURITY 5 ECTS
The IT-Security lecture is divided into two parts. There is a theoretical part covering topics like cryptography, stegano-graphy and network security (including firewalls, IDS, etc.).During the hands-on part students will learn to work with network-analysing software and have a closer look at some common hacking tools in order to develop stra-tegies against all kinds of attacks. Recent topics like modern car hacks (e.g. the latest BMW hack) will also be covered.
FILM + SPECIAL EFFECTS, 3D MODELING AND ANIMATION 4 ECTS
In part one students will learn the basics of modern film production, e.g. camera types, lenses, software and skills for cut & postproduction, video codecs, etc. In addition to this, basic knowledge related to the production of special effects, CGI, 3D modeling & compositing will be covered. Students get a first introduction to 2D special effects pro-duction / compositing software like Adobe After Effects and 3D modeling + animation software like Autodesk 3Ds MAX.In part two students will produce a complete short film including some self-produced special effects / CGI and / or 3D models. Some film sequences produced by last year lecture‘s student team can be viewed here: https://vimeo.com/126620965 and here: https://vimeo.com/146232103

DATABASE DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION 5 ECTS
The course introduces to data modeling techniques. Entity- relationship-model concepts are introduced and the differences to relational modeling will be explained. As a next step the data definition language part of SQL is introduced. The course will then discuss ways to transform the relational model into struc-tured query language (SQL) statements to create a physical database schema. Finally, the basic elements of the data manipula-tion language part of SQL will be introduced.
COMPUTER VISION 4 ECTS
Introduction to Computer Vision: This lecture focuses on the fast growing field of “seeing machines” in the context of artificial intel-ligence. During the class we start with basics in light, cameras, and optics. Very quickly we jump into the algorithmic challenges of edge detection, interest points, and local image features in general. Further topics include the Hough transform, stereo vision, feature tracking and optical flow (incl. excursion to the IBM Research Center Böb lingen).
INTERNATIONAL SOCIAL MEDIA MARkETING AND DIGITAL STORYTELLING 3 ECTS
Students will learn about the global development of social me-dia and analyse the challenges and possibilities of international social media marketing. The focal point will be which kind of marketing goals can be better achieved via social media and which strategies can be applied. Practical aspects, e.g. how to build a base of loyal global fans on Facebook even in time of troubles, will also be discussed. Then, the course will focus on digital storytelling – an approach more and more global brands rely on when creating content for their social media channels. By analysing international campaigns, students will learn what makes a good story, how social media influence the way stories are told, and how effective storytelling helps brands to reach their marketing goals. On an excursion to the Bosch Company students will explore the story behind this global brand with its 129-year old history.
