Against a school with over 1000 students, the girls always knew they would be in for a tough match. Aſter the first 10 minutes, it was evident that Dubbo were a very strong and well-disciplined team. They were camped out in front of our goal, but with determinaon and some luck, we were able to hold out. The game then changed slightly and we became a more fluent unit, geng our passes together and defending strongly. The girls were pung together a number of aacking raids down the leſt side and almost scored twice with only the keeper to beat. However, the inevitable occurred and Dubbo scored late in the first half to lead 1-0 at the break. The talk at half-me was posive and with a renewed vigour, the girls aacked the 2 nd half strongly. We were now matching the Dubbo team, and although they were slightly more skilful our team led by Molly Statham were now beginning to win the 50/50 challenges with strong, physical soccer. It was no surprise when shortly thereaſter, Emily Thomas scored a great goal for CHS. Despite chances for both teams, the score remained 1 all at full-me. Extra me followed with Golden Goalbeing the decider. However, the extra challenge was aſter 5 minutes intervals, each team would lose a player. A red bunch of girls would have to dig deep to keep going. Their efforts were outstanding. Great defense was followed by awesome aacking raids in which both teams had chances. Aſter losing 4 players to the 5 minute intervals, Dubbo, on the back of a 5 minute non-stop aack finally blasted a great goal past our brilliant keeper Hailey Williams. Despite losing, our girls kept their chins up and were very happy with their efforts against the taller, older and more experienced opposion. This unit will connue to develop as they get older, and they should evolve into a very formidable team in the next year or so. Congratulaons to a great bunch of lion-hearted girls. Last Wednesday the junior girls soccer team played their semi-final match against Dubbo South High School at the STO. Against a school with over 1000 students, the girls always knew they would be in for a tough match. After the first 10 minutes, it was evident that Dubbo were a very strong and well-disciplined team. They were camped out in front of our goal, but with determination and some luck, we were able to hold out. The game then changed slightly and we became a more fluent unit, getting our passes together and defending strongly. The girls were putting together a number of attacking raids down the left side and almost scored twice with only the keeper to beat. However, the inevitable occurred and Dubbo scored late in the first half to lead 1-0 at the break. The talk at half-time was positive and with a renewed vigour, the girls attacked the 2nd half strongly. Congratulations to our fantastic squash team – Bill, Lucas, Ryan and Sammy who have successfully moved to the State Finals after a great day in Parkes last week. These four have done a great job in representing our school. A massive well done also to our two soccer teams who last week gave their all in two every different games. The students did an amazing job on the field and were a true credit to our school. Last Wednesday night we had another break-in into the GA shed and TAS Timber and Metalwork rooms. Police attended and so have the forensic team who have been able to get some prints. Although it was great to get all the gear back on Friday the school will continue to install a security system as well as some security gates in the Timber and Metal area and look at ways to better secure the equipment inside in case of future visits.

P & C News

Our wonderful MAUREEN, tireless, committed and hard-working volunteer for "The Hub", our school canteen, is RETIRING after 5 years of service to our school. Wednesday, June 2nd will be Maureen's last day. The P&C would like to recognise the commitment, skills and support Maureen brought to our canteen. We are deeply appreciative of all Maureen has done and she will be greatly missed. Maureen was an asset to "The Hub" team and it was a pleasure having her in our canteen. We wish her all the best for her retirement.

Cabonne Council Visit

On Tuesday 25th May, Student Representative Council (SRC) representatives Rory Boland and Jackson Stacey attended the annual Youth Forum at Cabonne Council chambers in Molong. This event was an opportunity for students to raise issues of importance for the consideration of Council. Jackson and Rory did a fantastic job representing Canowindra High School, where they proposed that the local library be revamped to improve study facilities and provide an inviting space for students and the local community, as well as visitors to the town. The address was also livestreamed to the Council’s YouTube channel (so go check it out!) and all three schools spoke incredibly well. Well done Jackson and Rory, and thank you to the SRC for helping them to

select their focus.

Super Star Students

Yarning Circle Our ATSI group students have been working very hard over the last few weeks building their Yarning Circle. This week saw the addition of a boarder of retaining wall blocks, generously donated by Peter and Cathy Smith, placed around the edge of the circle. The student's are aiming to have the circle finished by the end of Week 8 for a grand opening during NAIDOC week (Week 9).

Well done to Ella Breen who has been selected to represent Zone 2 in Bowral at State Show Jumping. Ella will be competing in the up coming holidays. Well done Ella, we can’t wait to hear all about it!

Our very own Amber Johnson was selected to play for Western Region in the State Championships. Amber is our soccer superstar and we enjoy hearing all about her accomplishments within the sport.

Inclusive Sports in Orange On Wednesday 26th May, James and Brock participated in an inclusive sports day at the PCYC in Orange. They had a

fabulous time playing football, hockey, cricket, tennis and goalball. The boys came away with some new skills, a new

tennis racquet and some new peer friendships.

Well done boys! Mrs Bevan-Wright

Western Champions

Last Friday, Sammy Austin, Lucas Ellis, Ryan Ellis and Bill Harrison travelled to Parkes to participate in the Western Area Open Boys squash finals. They were prepared for a big day of squash knowing they had to play three teams coming from Gulgong, Parkes and Cowra. The boys started their campaign well de-feating Gulgong 3 matches to 1. Parkes were the next team in their line of fire and some fantastic squash saw them win again, 3 matches to 1. Cowra High were the last team for the boys to challenge, with Canowindra High taking the full round of wins 4-0. They are now in the NSW knockout looking to re enact their fantastic success from 2019. Two more knock-out wins will see them head to Wollongong to challenge in the state finals. Well done and Goodluck.
