Happy International Women’s Day and a big thank you to our Year 11 Community and Family Studies class, supported by Ms Dunk, for making this a focus in our school. The very capable group of students, after interviewing staff and students from across different year groups, have put together a short video and uploaded it onto our Facebook page to celebrate the occasion. Congratulations to our Year 11 boys – Henry Duguid, Lucas Ellis, Jackson Stacey and Bill Harrison – who, along with two of their friends, as members of the Cranbury Jam band, made their first appearance at the Country Education Foundation of Canowindra fundraiser on Saturday. What great ambassadors for our community, well done! All the best to our Year 12 students making their debut this coming weekend. With COVID causing the cancellation of the ball last year it is great that the students are able to once again participate in such events. A big thank you to the P&C for their organisation of the event and to Mrs Balcombe who has been overseeing the dance training. Good luck to our Western Region swimmers who will be travelling to Dubbo this Thursday. We look forward to hearing how well they all go. Just a reminder that next week is School Photos and we hope that all of our students take part.

P&C News

Year 12 Hospitality Practical Assessment Three Year 12 Hospitality students undertook their first practical assessment for the year, cooking corn fritters and poached eggs. They cooked and waited on 12 staff members who acted as their customers, as well as plating another two each as part of their task. Congratulations to all three on their fine effort, especially when the kitchen was as hot as a sauna.

Yr 8 Student Mental Health Study – Future Proofing

A reminder for parents of Year 8 Students to please complete the permission form for students to participate in the groundbreaking study conducted by the Black Dog Institute. We know that 50% of all mental health problems emerge in adolescence, yet teenagers are unlikely to get help until these problems have an impact on school attendance, academic results and relationships. Even when these problems become obvious, many teens avoid seeking help due to cost, stigma and trouble finding the right services. By using app-based healthcare tools, we can put evidence-based mental health programs into the hands of all young people, whenever they need them and wherever they are. What does the study involve? Students in the study will complete online surveys about their mental health and wellbeing at school. There are two surveys in Year 8, and then one each year until Year 12. Students will also use apps to teach them skills to manage their wellbeing, and to teach us about the early signs of changing mental health. All students in the study will have their mental health screened and if they need support, we’ll link them in with the school counsellor. The study is not compulsory but we strongly encourage as many students as possible to participate. You can find an introduction to the study at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIecHmFg-j8 More detailed information on the study and the permission form can be found online at the following web address: https://unsw-my.sharepoint.com/:b:/g/personal/z3450507_ad_unsw_edu_au/ET4P3yjk9RNAipUYzIJsffUBVQw3KYz2TGm5uIjqI-Pscw?e=Js07lj
