Written by William Shakespeare Directed by Payden Ackerman “The course of true love never did run smooth…” One of Shakespeare's most popular works and widely produced around the world, Midsummer has delighted audiences for generations. Four young lovers run away to a moonlit forest, a troop of inept actors rehearse a play, and a fairy King and Queen feud as their merry band of sprites play tricks on these mortals. This classic Elizabethan comedy is transported to the woods of California in the late 1960’s, set amid the backdrop of Vietnam, the hippie movement and music of Woodstock. Book and Lyrics by Brian Crawley Music by Jeanine Tesori Directed by Payden Ackerman This award-winning musical follows a scarred women who embarks on a cross country bus trip to be healed by a televangelist, and discovers the true meaning of beauty along the way. Violet is a moving musical featuring show- stopping anthems ranging from folk to gospel to blues. With a score from Tony-winning composer, Jeanine Tesori, (Caroline or Change, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Shrek, Fun Home) and book and lyrics by the acclaimed Brian Crawley, Violet delights critics and audiences alike with its message of love and self-acceptance. SJC Grooves showcases the creative talents of student dancers performing in the original work of SJC dance faculty as well as in select student choreography. A culmination of the Dance Production class, this concert highlights the year’s work in the Dance Department. Please join us to celebrate the concerted efforts of our dedicated students and faculty in the stunning, diverse, and groovy evening of dance. Spooktacular Enjoy a afternoon of Halloween music as well as music from popular films with the Concert Band, under the direction of John Tribelhorn. Costumes are not required, but encouraged! The MSJC Community orchestra, conducted by Frances Moore, will present their Fall Concert featuring Beethoven Symphony No. 4 in B flat major, and selected works with the youth orchestras. Sunday, November 6 3:00pm The MSJC College Singers will be performing a multitude of most-loved and often performed choral pieces, both with accompaniment and acapella. A premiere piece commissioned specifically for the ensemble, solos and traditional Christmas Carols will round out the program, creating a multi-faceted feast for the ear during the Christmas season. The band will perform a concert of Holiday music that celebrates the festive season. Under the direction of Stephen Vaughn the jazz band will perform a “Jazzy Christmas and A Swinging New Year.” (Music—continued next page) Traveling in Harmony featuring guest group “Flightline:” Saturday, March 4 2:00pm General Admission: $10 Senior/Students: $8 The band will feature a memorable style of your favorite music. Spring Concert Under the direction of Emily Collins, the singers will feature their Spring Concert with music for the season.
