Expect to see prices or 46- to 50-inch Vs as low as $600, 40- to 42-inch sets or $500, and 26- to 32-inchers starting at $300. Tere are many pricier Vs in stores, and salespeople might tout their “superi- or” eatures. Based on our tests o 130-plus Vs, the most sets we’ve ever rated, we’ll help you decide whether the most-hyped eatures and technologies are worth the price. (3D V could be on your list o con- siderations soon. See the acing page.) 120Hz and 240Hz: Less blur Ads make a big deal o 120Hz and 240Hz technologies, which promise to reduce blur and the loss o detail that occurs when LCDs display ast-moving images. 120Hz technology doubles an LCD V’s usual 60Hz rame rate, and 240Hz quadruples it. Another approach, which we call quasi- 240Hz, combines a 120Hz rame rate with a scanning backlight that ashes on and of to create a 240Hz-like efect. (Some Vs are set to 120 or 240Hz out o the box, but on others you must turn that eature on.) You usually pay about $200 to $400 more or a set with 240Hz or quasi-240Hz technology , in part because those sets tend to have other step-up eatures, too. 120Hz is available even on modestly priced sets such as the 55-inch Vizio VF550M, $1,400. When we tested anti-blur technolo- gies, the results varied. On some sets with true 240Hz, we saw almost no blur. Other Vs with quasi-240Hz and 120Hz rame rates had less blur than 60Hz sets, which showed the most noticeable deterioration.
