The act came into effect on 24 DEC,1986

Applies in Whole of India except Jammu and Kashmir

WHO IS A CONSUMER ?

Buys goods for consideration which has been paid or partly paid

Does not include person who avail services for commercial purpose.

WHAT IS COMPLAINT ?

Any allegation in writing by complainant regarding,

• Unfair trade practice

• Defect in goods

• Excess price charged

• Goods hazardous to life

Defect: 'Defect' means any faults in the quality, quantity, purity in relation to any goods. Deficiency: Corresponding to 'defect' in case of goods, the expression 'deficiency' is used in case of services. According to Section 2 (1) (g) deficiency means any fault. Imperfection in qualities of services

TIME LIMIT FOR FILING COMPLAINT

• Within two years from the date of action arises

• If there is delay then reason for delay of every single day has to be explained

• Established in every district

• It consists of the following members -

• Collector of the district shall be its chairman
