Dear FriendsThe worlds of IT and operational technology (OT) are

converging, and IT leaders must manage their transition to converging, aligning and integrating IT and OT environments. The benefits that come from managing IT and OT convergence, alignment and integration include optimized business processes, enhanced information for better decisions, reduced costs, lower risks and shortened project timelines.

The relationship between the IT and OT groups needs to be managed better, but more importantly, the nature of the OT systems is changing, so that the underlying technology — such as platforms, software, security and communications — is becoming more like IT systems. This gives a stronger justification for IT groups to contribute to OT software management, creating an IT and OT alignment that could be in the form of standards, enterprise architecture (EA), support and security models, software configuration practices, and information and process integration.

IT and OT are converging in numerous important industries, such as healthcare, transportation, defense, energy, aviation, manufacturing, engineering, mining, oil and gas, natural resources, and utilities. IT leaders who are impacted by the convergence of IT and OT platforms should consider the value and risk of pursuing alignment between IT and OT, as well as the potential to integrate the people, tools and resources used to manage and support both technology areas.

A shared set of standards and platforms across IT and OT will reduce costs in many areas of software management, and reduced risks come from reducing malware intrusion and internal errors.

With IT and OT converging, the scope of CIO authority may cater to the needs of planning and coordinating a new generation of operational technologies alongside existing information- and administration-focused IT systems. The key change for CIOs may be that their role moves from leading the IT delivery organization to leading the exploitation of the business assets of processes, information and relationships across all technologies in the enterprise — IT or OT, whether delivered, supported, or managed by the formal IT organization or elsewhere.

HP Supports Customers Despite Oracle’s Anti-customer Actions

HP has reiterated that it will continue the development and innovation of Itanium®-based Integrity server platforms with its HP-UX operating system using a roadmap that extends more than 10 years.

In addition, HP will continue to support customers running existing versions of Oracle software on Itanium-based Integrity servers, both existing and future platforms, during the same timeframe. Last year, HP launched the industry’s most modern mission-critical architecture in more than a decade. This constitutes the longest published roadmap of any UNIX vendor in the industry.

“ O r a c l e continues to show a pattern of anti-customer behavior as they move to shore up their failing Sun server business,” said Dave Donatelli, executive vice president and general manager, Enterprise Servers, Storage and Networking, HP. “HP believes in fair and honest competition. Competition is good for customers, innovation and the marketplace. We are shocked that Oracle would put enterprises and governments at risk while costing them hundreds of millions of dollars in lost productivity in a shameless gambit to limit fair competition.”

In a direct contradiction to a statement made yesterday by Oracle, Paul Otellini, president and chief executive officer, Intel Corporation said, “Intel’s work on Intel Itanium processors and platforms continues unabated with multiple generations of chips currently in development and on schedule. We remain firmly committed to delivering a competitive, multi-generational roadmap for HP-UX and other operating system customers that run the Itanium architecture.”

Poulson is Intel’s next-generation 32-nm, 8-core-based Itanium chip, and is on track to more than double the performance of the existing Tukwila architecture. Kittson is an officially committed roadmap product for Itanium beyond Poulson and also is in active development. Intel Itanium processor industry momentum will be highlighted in a keynote at the upcoming Beijing Intel Developer’s Forum.

HP moved ahead into second position in the Unix market while Sun lost share and fell back into third since Oracle announced it would acquire Sun in April of 2009.(1) It is clear that Oracle customers are voting with their purchasing decisions against the Sun platform. This latest Oracle action of disinformation is clearly an attempt to force customers into purchasing Sun servers in a desperate move to slow their declining market share.

HP remains committed to supporting its customers and their applications through the next decade and beyond. Customers who wish to preserve a fair and competitive marketplace can email Oracle at [email protected].

India’s digital printing industry is growing at a rate of 25.8% every three years - expected to grow from US$504 million

in 2006 to as much as US $2.5 billion by 2012. These numbers clearly illustrate how huge the digital printing opportunity is and the type of market we operate in is growing by the day. Xerox’s projections of digital printing growth are in line with the worldwide trends. And its customers in India are actually growing at a pace almost double to the world wide trends.

Digital printing industry is seeing significant transformations with new technologies and applications being developed every day, to provide cost effective, customized solutions.

As more commercial print providers are seeing the value in adding Digital printing to their traditional offset printing businesses, the line between the two is continuously blurring. The ability to cost-effectively produce short runs of traditional jobs and create new applications that incorporate personalization and variable-data printing, coupled with the high-quality results, make Digital printing a very

attractive option. For print providers, it’s not necessarily about choosing one technology or conforming to a tradition. Instead, it’s about implementing the solutions that help them meet customer demands and increase profits. Digital printing market hence has a tremendous growth potential.

Xerox is one of the leading players in the digital printing sector

in India and is constantly looking for opportunities to enable print providers drive new revenue streams. Speaking about Xerox focus on digital printing space, Mr. Pankaj Kalra, Executive Director, Graphics Communication Group, Xerox India, says, “We are focusing on being a customer-centric company instead of a product centric company and providing personalized

“We are focusing on being a customer-centric company instead of a product centric company and providing personalized solutions to our customers through our

various offerings, to meet their business specific needs. We are more like consultants to them instead of mere vendors. With this objective we have identified Real Business Live! as this year’s theme for Xerox, under

which we will look at providing real solutions to real business challenges of our partners and customers.”

Inboxsolutions to our customers through our various offerings, to meet their business specific needs. We are more like consultants to them instead of mere vendors. With this objective we have identified Real Business Live! as this year’s theme for Xerox, under which it will look at providing real solutions to real business challenges of our partners and customers.”

Xerox is of the opinion that ‘digital printing’ as against offset will drive momentum in the Indian printing industry. The Indian digital printing industry has experienced a very good growth rate in the last few years and we hope this growth momentum continues in the year 2011 as well.

Digital printing enables print customers to buy exactly what they need, when they need it; Web-based electronic storefronts are a perfect match for this Print on demand model.

Xerox’ services and solu-

tion Xerox has launched a series of

products and solutions- from extending the Phaser range to mid segment laser MFD’s and high end digital presses. These products have enhanced features viz Wi-Fi printing etc in some of them and have enhanced color adoption in office. The ColorQube range based on the Xerox proprietary technology Solid Ink offering an environment-friendly value proposition is the next big technology buzz in the segment.

Some of our cutting edge offerings for the Indian market are as follows-• Color 1000 digital production

press – This next generation product is well positioned between Xerox’s hugely successful DocuColor 8002 and iGen4 digital color press. To further expand its customers’ digital printing capabilities, Xerox has added an optional clear toner station that brings prints to life. This equipment offers versatility, scalability and performance that is perfect for production environments. With flexible workflow, feeding and finishing, the Xerox Color 1000 press will help Xerox’s customers as their business volumes grows. The Color 1000 Press will target print applications like high

capacity stacking, hole punching and folding to square fold booklets, layflats and an array of finishing options.

• Xerox iGen4 Press - The most productive and highest-quality cut-sheet digital press in the printing industry. The iGen4 increases productivity by 25 to 35 percent by automating operator tasks, reducing the need to interrupt the press for adjustments and decreasing overall operating costs. As a result, the iGen4 improves the break-even point between digital and traditional offset printing - making it faster and more economical to run more print jobs on digital.

• Solid Ink Technology: Xerox has printers that use the Solid Ink technology that is a package of excellent image creation

method, simplicity and ease of use that sets it apart from the other laser printers in the market. Solid ink printers have easy process to load ink. Each color has a unique shape-coded and numbered ink stick which ensures there is no mix up. The right color goes only in the right place. And, because solid ink is solid, there is no mess. The only other consumable is a maintenance kit, which takes less than a minute to replace, about once a year. One of the biggest competitive advantages of solid ink technology is the fact that it is environment friendly technology producing 90% less waste than laser printing. Xerox has three products that are based on solid ink technology. These include: Xerox Phaser 8500, Xerox Phaser 8550 and WorkCentre C2424.

Xerox WorkCentre C2424 is the star product which was launched in 2004.

• Xerox’s Emulsion Aggregation High Gloss toner: This technology significantly reduces the amount of toner needed because nearly 100 percent of the toner transfers to the paper. That translates into real cost savings and reduced waste. All three systems are Energy Star compliant and allow for duplex printing, which reduces the amount of paper needed for a print or copy job.

• Xerox Glossmark technology is a “watermarking” technology that exhibits a special visual effect by creating different levels of gloss within an image. The Glossmark is an image or pattern embedded in an existing image without the need for special toners or paper. Similar to traditional watermarks, embedded Glossmarks can be easily observed without the assistance of special devices, yet cannot be deleted or reproduced by conventional scanning or copying. Glossmark technology combines a visually striking gloss image with a high quality color image in a seamless fashion, and allows both images to be easily viewed with little interference.

o Can record variable information o Can be produced by existing Xerox

printing solutions o Do not require assisted viewing o Cannot be reproduced using

conventional equipment o Use conventional toners and papers o Are very difficult to counterfeit o Can be varied in appearance from

striking to subtle Xerox’s Glossmark technology

provides added security features to documents at print time. It helps tackle counterfeiting and fraud by embedding a hologram-like image onto the surface of the printout. This creates a tamper-proof document and guarantees its authenticity. The Glossmark is visible to the eye, but cannot be reproduced on a copy of the original.

Go-To-Market StrategyAs part of Xerox’s Go–to-Market

strategy to reach out to the growing

number of SMEs in the country, Xerox deploys a two-pronged strategy. Xerox works with the leading system integrators across the country at multiple customer locations to provide the appropriate management solutions for the SME community. However amongst the wide diversity of business houses ranging from SMEs to Enterprise, Xerox will focus extensively on the Banking, Financial Sector and Insurance (BFSI) segment in 2011.

Speaking on this front, Mr. Pankaj, says, “There are challenges when it comes to innovation in a developed market vis-à-vis developing markets like India. Xerox Innovation Hub is trying to focus on providing high quality low cost solutions to customers in developing markets.”

The Xerox India Innovation Hub focuses on two major areas that are aptly suited to overcome the challenges of innovation in an emerging market. One is how to innovate more effectively to capture opportunities in the emerging markets. This would happen in two ways- by nurturing and innovating on proven technology platforms that is being currently used in the Indian context and the other is to innovate as basis the unique requirement from developing market which is yet to be addressed to its potential.

Xerox Channel Strategy For Digital Printing Market

Today, Xerox has over 500 Xerox partners nationally who are a mix of Value Added Resellers, Sub Distributors, Xerox Premium partners that cater to customers in Enterprise, SMB’s and SOHO segments. Over the next few years, Xerox will continue to expand the partner base pan India particularly in places which are still not adequately covered. Speaking about Channerl importance, Mr. Pankaj Kalra, says, “Channel partners are our extended team and they are the interface between Xerox solutions & our customers. We at Xerox India have always shared a great rapport and relationship with our partners.

The growth has been mutual; we have grown and expanded in India and have helped them grow in their businesses.”

With Its present Go-To-Market strategy, Xerox has authorized its partners to sell all products and solutions of Xerox from entry level desktop printers, to mono & color MFD’s and high end digital presses as per the requirement of the customer. Speaking on this front, Mr. Pankaj says, “Also, in addition customization is the key to any campaign’s success. Marketers today thrive on the concept of “one to one marketing” and the results project growth clearly. Research shows that such initiatives have always led to a substantial increase in response rates and overall return on investments. However many financial institutions and telecom companies use customized communications for their HNI’s and this has been in progress for some time. Personalized calendars highlight the success of the concept.”

In The EndIndia is a key market for Xerox

and over the years it has ushered in a revolution in technology and innovation in the digital printing industry. In the year 2011, Xerox will consistently build its inventions into business by embedding them in superior Xerox products and solutions, using them as the foundation of new businesses, or licensing or selling them to other entities. COMPUTING Strategy

Compare too few years ago, today’s computing environment requires

IT departments to address more PC management challenges. The huge growth of consumer technology like tablets, combined with a new generation of tech-savvy workers who increasingly demand to run company software and services on personal devices has been progressively drawing attention of IT managers. Apart from that additional challenges stem from users’ shifting views of technology in the workspace. At home, they are increasingly savvy about technology, and they expect similar personal configurations and freedoms in the workplace. Users are now more likely to use their own devices to access corporate applications, such as accessing corporate email from their personal mobile phones. While these trends are making employees more productive, they are causing new challenges for IT departments.

New form factors, network dispersion, and increased mobility result in more complexity and higher pressures on cost control. Furthermore, lost or stolen laptops are more common, and securing laptop and desktop PCs can require significant resources. Data loss is not an option today and such damage can be immeasurable. Finally, compliance regulations have strict requirements for protecting privacy and corporate data as well as public disclosure when issues arise. Failure to protect this data can lead to significant punitive consequences and a negative impact to the organization’s reputation.

Organizations are also looking for ways to help protect the environment, including looking for ways to effectively re-use older PCs instead of sending them to the landfill. Further complicating IT’s challenge are pressures from business and

government regulatory agencies to secure access to sensitive customer and business information. IT managers must ask themselves, “How do I deliver secure, on-demand IT services in a highly complex and dynamic environment?” More and more frequently, the answer is virtualization.

Desktop Virtualization Potential

Companies are increasingly turning to virtualization as the answer to their desktop challenges. Through virtualization employees can access their applications and data very safely over a network and the risk of data loss is minimized. Today, desktop virtualization is rapidly becoming the mainstream way to empower the next generation workforce by delivering end-to-end desktop virtualization solutions and services.

On the IT side, virtualization accelerates deployment of new capabilities without needing to acquire new hardware and configure components. It also reduces application testing requirements and compatibility issues and simplifies disaster recovery and compliance. Over the past few years, businesses have simplified their data center management via server virtualization technologies and reaped enormous cost benefits in the process. Now, new advances in virtualization and more ubiquitous availability of broadband access enable companies to do the same with enterprise desktops by providing the tools necessary to rearrange how PC components interact and to choose where those components reside.

Types of Desktop Virtualization

There are two main variants of desktop virtualization:

Hosted desktop virtualization: This is when a server located in a data center hosts virtual machines. Users connect to the server via connection brokers and receive their user interface via standard protocols, such as Remote Desktop Protocol.

Client virtualization: In this model, “hyper visor” software installed on the client device allows one desktop to run multiple operating systems. Challenges of Desktop Virtualization

As with any technology, desktop virtualization doesn’t come without trade-offs. For organizations considering hosted desktops, client virtualization, or a combination of the two, it’s necessary to first understand desktop virtualization’s limitations.Hosted Desktop Virtualization Chal-lenges

Most networks aren’t powerful enough to deliver rich graphics, such as those offered by the aero interface in Windows Vista, to a virtual hosted desktop.

Virtual hosted desktops are server-based and delivered to end users over the network. If the network goes down, therefore, users will be unable to access their desktops.wVirtual hosted desktops require

significant bandwidth, and the ratio of users to servers is not as high as in other client computing models. As a result, some organizations may need to make costly upgrades to their servers, storage, and network infrastructure before rolling out desktop virtualization.

wEnd users may experience latency when operating their virtual desktops. Remote workers in particular may experience poor performance if their virtual hosted desktops are delivered across a wide

area network. The best way to address these

challenges is to deploy hosted desktops only to appropriate users. Traditional target users for virtual hosted desktops are workers who use their computers for very specific tasks that are not knowledge-intensive, such as employees in call centers and administrative workers. Remote and mobile workers can be good fits for hosted desktop virtualization too, provided they have access to high-speed network connections.Client Virtualization Challenges

Client virtualization has its challenges as well. For one, running multiple virtual machines simultaneously requires more powerful client hardware, particularly in terms of processing and memory. As a result, organizations must often make up-front investments to get their desktops “virtual machine ready.” Additionally, end users sometimes experience degraded performance when running applications not native to their client device’s base operating system. For example, some Apple Mac-based systems may not operate

as speedily on a Microsoft Windows-based PC, even when they’re run in a Mac-based virtual machine.

To overcome these challenges, organizations should carefully assess where implementing client virtualization makes sense. Traditional use cases for this model include technical end users, such as software testers. Client virtualization enables them to have multiple virtual test machines with multiple different operating systems running on one physical desktop. Employees who need to work with applications on incompatible platforms can also benefit from client virtualization, as can contract workers who need to access a customer’s network through their own PCs. IT departments can simply create virtual desktops for them with all the applications and data they require. Accessing that hosted desktop through a virtual machine allows contractors to keep the customer’s applications and data separate from their own.Desktop Vitualization market

Although the overall market for virtualization in India is nascent, the

technology around desktop-virtualization is emerging as one of the major technology trends in enterprise, government and education. The huge economic advantage in both cost of acquisition and on-going maintenance of desktop virtualization is propelling the technology towards mainstream. Moreover, organizations are increasingly aware of their environmental footprint and are deploying virtualization as a tool to reduce power utilization and computing waste. Some of the world’s largest virtualization deployments are in India, such as EISC. In fact, India is leading the world in large scale desktop virtualization deployments.

Gartner forecasts 10 to 15 percent of worldwide corporate PCs will be virtualized by 2013.

And in IDC’s latest 5-year forecast, India is expected to post the highest compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the next 5 years (33.7%), followed by China (30.1%). Benefit Of Desktop Virtualization

Enetrprises are slowly become aware abot the desktop virtualization and the value

Page 17: Consumer Infoline

COMPUTING Strategypropostion it can bring. Benefits of desktop virtualization include ease of centralized management, enhanced security as a result of limited access to critical infrastructure, low cost of entry, and dramatically reduced lifecycle and maintenance costs compared. The low entry and reduced lifecycle cost of desktop virtualization is turning the old economics of PC purchasing and maintenance on its head.

Desktop virtualization deliberates on providing user-rich experiences with quick solutions. It enables easy deployment and management as each virtual desktop can be provided individually without a need to install hardware. Some of the other benefits include:

Easy Portability – For the mobile workforce, virtual desktops are an advantage. One has the advantage of carrying the workstation to any place and in any form as this technology enables a single server to perform functions that were earlier performed by multiple servers.

Cost Effective Solutions– Keeping abreast of all the latest software applications is not inexpensive. As per the conventional system, when there was a need to upgrade software, the old software had to un-installed in each machine an new installed, but now the IT department runs a script on the main server which in turn upgrades the other systems automatically. This equals to a saving in cost and time. Also during system crashes or loss of data, one has to move quickly to recover losses and repair damages. Virtual desktops help you detect and resolve issues almost instantaneously. It also makes the IT equipments easy to operate and manage thus saving the user from going through a cumbersome process of maintaining multiple hardware systems simultaneously.

Security- Desktop Virtualization offers a secure network for all data as the remote central server provides a safer haven for information than local computers. This would consequently result in a relatively increased security in of the hardware as well as software in the computing device. Regulating other computers from distant areas become less complicated and more secure.

Flexible and Effective – Desktop Virtualization is undoubtedly flexible and effective in the sense that it can run into various operating systems simultaneously on a particular system without creating damage or getting in the way of the information on the computer. It is also effective in terms of providing faster and efficient disaster recovery in the event of any technical faults.

Encourages Green Technology- The

deployment of thin computing technology through the virtual workspace saves on energy consumption. When a company uses a number of servers to perform individual tasks it has to maintain special environment with an extremely low temperature in order to keep them properly functional. Virtualization facilitates the user to reduce power consumption and energy utilization.

Desktop virtualization is indeed a boon to users as it ensures that the users are in rhythm with the advanced pace of technology. In today’s competitive environment, mobility and agility have become the core needs for progress. With the abundant virtues of desktop virtualization businesses and users are bound to scale unthinkable heights.A few of the advantages:• Maintains operating system consistency

for software compatibility • Allows for universal software updates

rather than updating each individual computer

• Keeps from the need to purchase a tons of software copies

• Reduction of downtime should a server or client hardware experience failure

• User information remains secure and safe in the central server rather than on local computers

• It allows for employees to control their individual computer environments while also allowing IT to monitor and streamline business related functions at the same timeVerticals Driving The GrowthIndustry verticals such as BFSI and

manufacturing, which typically have a

large team of mobile executives and sales representatives, are some of the early adopters of desktop virtualization.

Healthcare and education are also examples of industry verticals that have successfully integrated ussing desktop virtualization to reach new levels of mobility, flexibility and productivity, while giving users a more modern, convenient computing experience.

In the endSeveral forms of desktop virtualization

can help organizations satisfy users’ needs for mobility and flexibility, while relieving pressure on information technology (IT) departments to manage cost, security, and compliance. Augmenting traditional PCs with a powerful and cost-effective thin computing alternative makes good business sense for many organizations. Particularly when budgets are tight, IT resources are scarce, and security is a concern, consolidating desktop environments in the data center is a solution well worth considering.

There is fast momentum for the adoption of desktop virtualization across all verticals around the world including enterprise, education and public/government institutions. The level of vertical market momentum typically depends on the nature of the geography. For example, enterprise adoption, spurred in part by the move to cloud and internet based computing is driving adoption in ‘developed’ markets; while education and public sector institutions are driving adoption in ‘developing’ markets. l

CLOUD computing

Over the past 12 to 18 months, a series of advancements in both server, storage and client virtualization software technologies has converged to surpass PCs in terms of management ease, total cost of ownership, and flexible productivity.

Rajat Mehta, Country Manager, Emerging Business, Personal Systems Group, HP India said, “Virtualisation has emerged as the most promising trend in recent times in India. When all sectors are harping about ways of doing business in an environment friendly manner and make the most of available resources, virtualisation has emerged as a leading solution in the IT space to lower operating costs, lower downtime and ‘on-demand’ IT. HP is the only vendor positioned to deliver client virtualization through our end-to-end product and services portfolio.”

CIOs are facing pressures in man-agement, security, and cost-of-ownership

— Complexity and cost: Client computing is perceived to be expensive and complex. Simplifying desktop management remains a key challenge.

— Security and compliance: Organizations are at risk for data loss, compliance issues, and information theft.

— Change and choice: IT must plan

Client computing is a move away from depending on individual user’s PC for comput-ing power. With client virtualization based on single-image management, the support burden shrinks to one: one copy of each application, one copy of Windows, and one point-of-management for the entire enterprise.

to operate in an ‘Instant-on world’ – new devices, new ways of working, new user expectations – require quick reactions to business changes.

— Productivity: As technology advances in an ‘Instant-on world’, customers expect on-demand services that allow access to their workplace environment anywhere, everywhere, through any device.

— IT sprawl and increased costs: Technology sprawl and complexity is driving an 66 percent investment on maintenance versus 34 percent on innovation (based on a 2009 InformationWeek 500 Analytics report).

By moving to HP client computing, businesses can focus more on innovation and less on IT maintenance.

HP’s End-To-End Solutions From The Data Center To The Desktop

HP extends the power of the Converged Infrastructure to the desktop by providing an end-to-end solution, including servers, storage, services, access and networking devices as well as printers to bring it all together.

For many enterprises, rigid infrastructure along with both physical and virtual sprawl has created an infrastructure that inhibits enterprise agility. As a result, ongoing IT operations and maintenance consumes more

than 70 percent of IT resources, leaving only 30 percent dedicated to innovation.

New research from HP indicates that 22 percent of workloads in Asia Pacific are currently on mainframes, however, almost 20 percent of them are designated to be moved off of mainframes. Additionally, senior technology executives say that only 31 percent of their organizations’ workloads are virtualized today, and this number will increase by 30 percent in the next two years.

The research further revealed a disconnect between senior business and government executives and their IT counterparts. 21 percent of senior technology executives strongly agreed that their infrastructure was optimized and aligned to meet current enterprise demand. To the same question, only 10 percent of senior business and government executives agreed with them.

The HP Converged Infrastructure, an architectural blueprint for the data center of the future, is designed to close this gap between what the enterprise requires and what IT can deliver. It enables clients to eliminate technology silos, while integrating servers, storage, networking, and power and cooling into shared pools of interoperable resources. A common management platform manages and provisions these pools of resources.

Innovation vs OperationsHP enables enterprises to build an

efficient infrastructure that can deliver any workload, anywhere, anytime, with a new level of simplicity, integration and automation.

HP provides a Converged Infrastructure Reference Architecture built on four technology foundations that enable clients to:

— Reduce complexity, risk, resource requirements as well as costs with a common modular infrastructure of virtualized server, storage and I/O resources delivered through HP Virtual Resource Pools.

— Extend the life of their data center, while reducing power consumption and cooling requirements with the HP Data Center Smart Grid. This provides intelligent energy management across systems and facilities.

— Simplify and increase flexibility from the data center to the network edge with the HP FlexFabric Network. This creates a common, wire-once, virtual I/O network fabric to connect servers to switches to storage.

— Improved productivity by running IT infrastructure as a shared service with the HP Matrix Operating Environment. This establishes a common platform to manage and automate multiple vendors’

Page 22: Consumer Infoline

CLOUD computingtechnologies from infrastructure to application.

The HP Converged Infrastructure is supported by the innovation power of HP Labs – the company’s central research arm – leading interoperability and heterogeneous management with HP Software, the strength of HP’s partner ecosystem, as well as unmatched economics derived from an industry-leading, optimized supply chain.

HP client Resource AG has applied these principles and now leverages an HP Converged Infrastructure to offer its customers standardized IT services with individual customizations options. This allows Resource AG to better meet the needs of their customers. With HP, Resource AG can produce binding quotes for potential customers within seven days, with production rollout for new customers within one week. In standard sourcing models this takes typically six to seven weeks. They are also able to do this at a lower cost, which they are able to pass onto their customers – offering up to 35 percent better than usual market prices.

HP can help clients pick the right model for their converged infrastructure. Leading enterprises recognize that there is no “one” singular model of delivery that can be optimized to meet all core service

needs. Enterprises will continue to operate in environments containing traditional, outsourced and cloud services for the foreseeable future. HP Hybrid Delivery helps clients build, manage and consume services using the right delivery model for them.

HP Portfolio To Meet All Client Computing Needs

HP Client Virtualization solutions provide a high quality user experience, increased scalability and reliability in a secure environment.

— The latest HP t5550, t5565 and t5570 Thin Clients are ideal for customers seeking simple, affordable and reliable computing for typical office applications and Web browsing in most client virtualization or cloud computing environments.

— The industry’s first EPEAT Gold registered(1) thin client, the t5500 series is ENERGY STAR qualified, BFR/PVC-free(2) and its case parts contain more than 30 percent post-consumer recycled plastic.

— The HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosure consolidates the essential elements of a data center – power, cooling, management, connectivity, redundancy, and security – into a modular, flexible,

scalable, converged infrastructure with built-in intelligence and support for future technologies.

— HP ProLiant G7 servers provide modular standards-based building blocks that advance clients towards a converged infrastructure. HP ProLiant servers are designed to give customers the best return on their investment with improved performance, energy efficiency and virtualization capabilities.

for change, the new client infrastructure services portfolio integrates products across HP’s computing, software and hardware groups to provide clients with a unified, connected experience that increases productivity.

— HP Easy Tools thin client configuration management software simplifies installation and implementation across the network, regardless of model type or operating system.

HP Advances Scalable Cloud Computing

HP has recently announced the integration of 3PAR Utility Storage across the HP Converged Infrastructure portfolio to simplify scalable cloud computing, and introduced new storage solutions for virtualization and data deduplication.

This integration enables clients to optimize cloud delivery with features like automated storage tiering to improve performance, and thin storage offerings to eliminate over-provisioning.

The combination also helps clients seeking to consolidate storage hardware and respond to explosive data growth to address both of these challenges with converged block-and-file storage on a single storage array. HP also has simplified data management with solutions built on converged storage, server and networking platforms to provide clients with unified management and a lower total cost of ownership.Delivering utility-based storage re-sources for the cloud

Growing adoption of both public and private clouds has forced IT organizations and service providers to rethink their infrastructure design. Achieving the agility and performance demanded by cloud services requires the seamless integration of computing, storage and networking, as well as centralized management.

To automate and simplify the provisioning of multitenant storage for the cloud, HP 3PAR Utility Storage can now be fully managed as part of HP CloudSystem, the most complete, integrated system to build and deliver services across private, public and hybrid cloud environments. The combination of 3PAR with HP CloudSystem enables clients to reduce cloud application deployment time from days to minutes, improve operational efficiency of storage management tenfold and cut storage costs by up to 50 percent.

To provide clients a secure, multitenant block-and-file storage solution for both structured and unstructured data in the

cloud, HP has qualified the HP X9300 Network Storage Gateway, built on IBRIX technology, for use with HP 3PAR Storage Systems. Combining the thin-storage capabilities of 3PAR Utility Storage with the tiering and data-migration capabilities of the X9300 Network Storage System can reduce capacity requirements by 50 percent.

Getting the Most out of Cloud Computing with HP

As businesses and governments increase expectations on technology, IT is tasked with delivering on-time, on-budget technology-enabled services to meet ever-changing demands. One delivery model enterprises are increasingly turning to is cloud computing, which delivers newfound levels of agility, collaboration and speed.

To get the most out of cloud computing, Instant-On Enterprises need to understand where and how their portfolio of technology services can benefit from cloud sourcing. They need to weigh cloud against traditional delivery models and select the best method of service delivery to get what they need done, at the right cost and in the right time. The choice to implement cloud is different for every enterprise, but most need to carefully consider factors such as security, the openness of the infrastructure, automation, resiliency and seamless delivery.

HP’s cloud solutions allow organizations to build both private and public clouds. They also provide a common automation and management layer to manage those services no matter where they are sourced from.

Building a hybrid environment that enables choice

HP enables businesses and governments to build a hybrid environment that enables choice in delivery models without adding complexity. HP helps clients:

— Consume new cloud services to quickly and easily add new resources as requirements change. This reduces capital expenses, allowing organizations to better prepare for growth.

— Build a private or public cloud environment. Organizations are able to quickly deploy an on-demand service delivery environment that provides easy access to self-service resources from a secure environment. It enables the delivery of a diverse set of cloud services.

— Manage and secure the entire service portfolio to effectively govern across a flexible, hybrid delivery model. Integrated processes and technologies provide the control and flexibility necessary to fit each service depending on needs. The result is an organization that dynamically allocates technology resources in real-time to meet changing market demands.

— Transform the legacy technology environment to take advantage of cloud options. The goal is to get the technology environment in a position to leverage sourcing options freely.

In the endHP helps organizations take full

advantage of cloud computing by selecting the right platform for business services, from in-house data center and platforms to traditional outsourced service or cloud service providers. l

SAP Launches Next-Generation GRC Software

SAP has announced the availability of its newest release of governance, risk and compliance (GRC) software, providing a single, unified environment for the most comprehensive support for management, monitoring and analysis of enterprise risk and compliance activities.

The new release introduces a common look and feel across all applications in the GRC suite; embedded business intelligence (BI) reports and dashboards; and a graphical tool to define and depict risks. The new features make the products easier to use and enable people to garner attention to risks from business managers who have limited GRC expertise. By integrating GRC activities into core business processes and applications, executives can manage their businesses proactively and strategically rather than reactively.

The new release of GRC solutions from the SAP BusinessObjects portfolio is the next step in SAP’s business analytics road map to deliver customer-friendly business software that combines best-in-class analytics with proven SAP business applications. The new release unifies all GRC activities on a standard platform and connects easily to other pieces of the business analytics portfolio for far greater transparency, control and support for corporate strategy.

The software offers policy management and audit capabilities, granular security controls, enterprise support and the ability to transport and archive data. It thus helps executives overcome the common challenges that result from fragmented and disconnected GRC solutions: poor visibility into risk exposure; processes that are reactive, inefficient, costly or manual; large time and personnel requirements to effectively manage risk and compliance; and lack of alignment from not having risk and compliance processes embedded within the business.
