To recap a few of the memories from the 2017 tournament, here is collection of names, events and photos from Lewis River. Where else can one enjoy a gorgeous day in the sun while meeting friends and colleagues in a competitive round of having fun? The 2017 CSI Annual Golf Tournament proved once more that it can meet the challenge and bring its members out for a worthy cause, while offering an ideal setting for a relaxing day of playing hooky. When 132 registered golfers arrived on Thursday morning, August 24th, they were greeted by three very dedicated CSI ladies-in-charge – Erica, Ellen and Kourtney – who ensured that all 33 teams were primed for their 12:30 PM shotgun start. Providing fuel to energize the teams on a long afternoon in their golf carts was the popular “Hot Dog Stand” hosted by three very loyal sponsors: DeaMor Associates , Owens Corning and the Contractor Plan Center . Any golf tournament also requires many well-designed signs and banners to direct traffic and ID games at the tee boxes. Precision Images provided all of them as the “Sign” sponsor. Once underway, nearly all the course’s 18 holes were staffed by volunteers representing each of the Tournament’s Tee Box sponsors. Approximately $2,500 in team, individual game and raffle prizes were provided by all of the many generous sponsors. Page 1 of 3

The “one” that got away!

Providing fuel to energize the teams on a long afternoon in their golf carts was the popular “Hot Dog Stand” hosted by three very loyal sponsors: DeaMor Associates, Owens Corning and the Contractor Plan Center.

Any golf tournament also requires many well-designed signs and banners to direct traffic and ID games at the tee boxes. Precision Images provided all of them as the “Sign” sponsor.Once underway, nearly all the course’s 18 holes were staffed by volunteers representing each of the Tournament’s Tee Box sponsors. Approximately $2,500 in team, individual game and raffle prizes were provided by all of the many generous sponsors. One prize that did get away, however, was the $10,000 reward for hitting a hole-in-one at the 17th par 3

offered by long-term sponsor Professional Roof Consultants. While several of the teams managed to convince this photographer to capture their image with the winning check, it sadly remained unclaimed. Here we see Bill Hart and Steven McBride as they are “consoled” by the sponsor’s volunteers Lisa Hockman and Shannon McBride.

The Lewis River course has been home to the CSI Tournament since 2004 - all but for two of those years. Several other courses were previously tried as a Tournament host going back to the first one in 1996. As Tournament organizer, Erica Bitterman-Ryon is most grateful to the staff at Lewis River for their support: “Lewis River has treated us so well over the years, . . . they have been a great part of the CSI family . . I could

not have done this for so long without their help.”

The inspiration for an Annual CSI Golf Tournament came about in 1996 when active CSI members Igo Jurgens and John Lape wanted to raise money for a scholarship fund. The fund was originally intended as a means to support Architecture and Construction Management Students attending Portland State and the University of Oregon. It has since evolved into a funding source for A/E/C industry professionals eager to earn their CDT (Construction Documentation Technology) certification. That legacy continues as the CSI Tournament grows.

The Portland Chapter of CSI continues to offer CDT certificate scholarships to architects, design consultants, engineers, contractors, subcontractors and product representatives with less than 10 years industry experience. CSI's CDT Certificate and advanced certifications demonstrate professional commitment, credibility and reliability to employers, colleagues and clients. Applications are now closed for 2017 with final decisions on current recipients to be announced the first week of 2018 - to take advantage of exam early registration discounts that end on January 23, 2018.Now, back to last year’s Tournament!

With thanks to our many sponsors, the teams were encouraged to compete for several game prizes during their time on the course with the following winners:

At the end of a full afternoon of golf, networking, snacks, beverages and even a few cigars, the teams drifted over to the club house patio above the Lewis River for some relaxation, a full Mexican buffet and the awarding of prizes. The setting could not have been more fitting for a day like this!

Erica Bitterman-Ryon put together another rewarding event for everyone involved. In summing it up for us, she offered: “I have been helping with this tournament since it started in 1996, before I was even a member of CSI. It has been a wonderful experience in both my professional growth and personal growth. I’ve met wonderful people over the years, many continue to return year after year.

The wonderful, positive, fun people that come out every year are why I keep doing this. I am so lucky to have the continued support of the sponsors. I could not do this without them - they make this

tournament happen. I truly appreciate every last one of them for making my job easier and fun. I try my very best to make this a fun networking event, a day out of the office that all can enjoy and I hope that is why people come back - that it is fun and they have a great time. I am a little crazy by game day, but it is all good because aren’t we all a little crazy anyway?”

Thank you, Erica - we all look forward to many happy returns!
