I/O stands for “Input/Output” and encompasses

connectors used for external connections between

equipment and other equipment or devices.

I/O includes connector types such as modular

jacks (the traditional connector for connecting to

the telephone system), D-Subminiature (an industry

standard especially common in computers and

general industrial equipment), USB (Universal Serial

Bus, another data standard), and many more.
