The Poetry of His Providence

We Run in Abundant Fields

~ Ben Palpant ~

In you, Lord,

we lack no good thing.

We run in abundant fields.

Lush. Green.

We graze in pastures flowing

with calm streams.

You revive tired souls

and guide us carefully

because your name is at stake.

Even when we reel, blind,

in the valley of dismay,

we lean into hope,

even (dare I say) eager,

for our shoulders touch your own.

Beat us back

when we wander.

Hook us home

to sit with you

by fire and food.

Set fork and plate,

even with foes looming now.

We stand convinced:

Divine generosity,

profound expressions of love,

follow us all day and night.

And we will wake to the song

you sing in your own house,

familiar as friends now,

because your home is our home.

Yes.

Forever.

Psalm 23 A Psalm of David

The Lord is my shepherd, I

shall not be in want. He

makes me lie down in green

pastures, he leads me beside

quiet waters, he restores my

soul. He guides me in paths

of righteousness for his

name’s sake. Even though I

walk through the valley of the

shadow of death, I will fear no

evil, for you are with me; your

rod and staff, they comfort

me.

You prepare a table before

me in the presence of my

enemies. You anoint my head

with oil; my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love will

follow me all the days of my

life, and I will dwell in the

house of the Lord forever.

From the Sheldon Chamber Director… This quarter, we have had the privilege of having Allorie Feekes from

Sheldon High School, interning in our office. As her overall project for

us, she has planned a spring downtown event. She has called it

“Sheldon Spring Bash” and it will be held on Saturday, May 16 th from

11 am-2pm. She is planning food, inflatables, sidewalk chalk for the

kids, and other fun events. We will be running a promotion to get

people in the downtown businesses that day, so if you typically aren’t

open until 2 pm on Saturdays, I would consider it for that day only!

Please spread the word and bring your families down that day! She’s

worked hard on planning a family fun day downtown Sheldon!

Area Events

EMS Strong: The week of May 17-23, 2015 is National Emergency Medical

Services Week. The Sheldon Community Ambulance Team (SCAT) will be

holding its annual supper fundraiser on Monday, May 18 from 5 p.m.—7 p.m. at

the Lifelong Learning Center on the NCC campus in conjunction with Sanford

Sheldon Medical Center’s Health Fair. We would like to invite you to attend. The

proceeds raised during this event will be directed toward the purchase of

needed equipment for the ambulances. We hope that you will partner with us in

providing comprehensive emergency medical services not only for the

community, but also for our emergency service partners. We are also looking for

new members to join our team. Please mention this to any friends or relatives if

they are interested in joining our team. We offer a ride-along opportunity for

people to find out what it is like before they commit.

The Sheldon Community Ambulance Team also requests your consideration of

a donation toward this fundraising project. If you wish to purchase tickets in

advance or send a donation, you may write to “SCAT, PO Box 276, 416 9th

Street—Sheldon, IA 51201.”

Run, Walk & Roll – You are invited to walk, run or roll in your wheelchair for a

great cause at the 10th annual Run, Walk & Roll at Village Northwest

Unlimited. There will be a 5K and 10K run, and a 1 mile walk/roll event on

Saturday, June 6, beginning at 8am. Register by calling Judy at

(712) 324-5416 or online at www.allsportcentral.com. Help us meet our goal of

400 participants in honor of VNU’s 40th anniversary. Join the fun -- together we

can make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities!

Beanery Help Needed! We are looking for more volunteers to serve in our “Beanery” after our Sunday morning worship services. It doesn’t take much of your time and is simple to do. If we get enough help you’ll only have to work the “Beanery” once every other month or so. The schedule is made up through September. There will be a short training session at a later date. We are also looking for a chairperson to take over the Beanery. If you think you would be interested in this service please let Paula Van Der Vliet know ASAP at 324-3484 (h) or 348-1986 (cell).

Greetings from Iowa’s Great Lakes! We are again looking forward to convening Christians from many

churches for the annual Okoboji Bible Conference, July 30 - August 7. We’ve been serving Christ’s church with

an annual spiritual retreat for all ages since 1935. Across those decades we have partnered with

hundreds of churches in the region. Please make plans to attend this well-received event, full of inspirational

music and speakers. Check out our schedule at www.okobojiconference.org. Come and join us for a

week of amazing fellowship! (Brochures are available on the welcome cart in the back of the sanctuary!)
