HOW TO GET STARTED USING CLIPPER
1. Create an online account (optional).AnonlineaccountmakesiteasiertomanageyourClippercard.ItalsoallowsyoutosetupAutoloadforautomaticreloadsfromyourcreditcardorbankaccount.Tosetupanonlineaccountforthefirsttime,callClipperCustomerService.
2. Add value to your card.YoucanaddanycombinationofvalueontoyourClippercard,includingmonthlypasses,discountticketsandcashvalue.Forexample,ifyouwanttopayyourfareinMunistationswithanunlimited-ridepass,butalsowanttorideBART,youcanloadaMunipassaswellascashvalueforridingBART.Ifyoualwayspaywithcashwhenridingtransit,youcansimplyaddcashvalue.Forinformationonpasses,contactyourlocaltransitagencybycalling511.

HOW TO USE YOUR CARD TO PAY FARES
1. Locate the Clipper card reader. Insidethedoorofabusorstreetcar
AttheMuniorBARTfaregates
OntheCaltrainorVTAplatform
Attheferryterminal
Onacablecar,theconductorcarriesahandheldcardreader.
2. Tag your card by holding it flat against the Clipper logo. Clipperautomaticallychecksforavalidpass.Ifyoudon’thaveapassonyourcard,itwilldeductthediscountedfarefromthecashvalueonyourcardandapplyanyappropriatetransferdiscount.Here’swhattoexpectwhenyoutagyourcard:
On buses, streetcars, ferries, Caltrain and VTA:Thecardreaderwillbeepanddisplayagreenlightand“OK”toindicateyouhavesuccessfullytaggedyourcardandcanboard.Ayellowlightindicatesyourvalueislow.Youcanstillboard,butaddvaluebeforeyournexttrip.Aredlightandthreebeepsindicateyoudonothaveenoughvalueonyourcard,andyouwillneedtopaycash.
In BART stations:Thegateswillopen,andthedisplaywillsay“OK”

toindicateyouhavesuccessfullytaggedyourcardandcanenterthepaidarea.Ifthegatesbeeporfailtoopen,youmayhavetaggedyourcardtooquicklyormaynothaveenoughvalueonyourcard.Trytaggingagain,oraddvalueataticketmachineifyourbalanceistoolow.Besuretotagatafaregateevenifyouaretakinganelevatortoaccesstheplatform.
In Muni stations:Whenyouusetheregularfaregates,thereaderwillbeep,anddisplayagreenarrowand“Pleaseenter.”Thegateswillopentoindicateyouhavesuccessfullytaggedyourcard.Ifyouareunabletotagandpayyourfare,thegateswillbeepthreetimesanddisplay“SeeAgent”withared“X”.Theaccessiblegatesnexttothestationagentboothopenassoonastheydetectsomeone,butyoushouldstilltagthefaregatetopayyourfare,asproof-of-paymentofficersmayasktocheckyourClippercardtoensureyouhavepaid.Whenenteringthestationviaelevator,youmustexittheelevatorattheconcourselevelandtagyourcardtoafaregateortoacardreaderadjacenttotheconcourseelevators.

3. Tag off if you need to at the end of your trip. IfyourideBART,Caltrain,GoldenGateTransit,MarinTransit,SanFranciscoBayFerryorSonomaCountyTransit,youmust“tagoff”bytaggingyourcardtoaClippercardreaderattheendofyourtrip.Theseagenciescalculateyourfarebasedonhowfaryoutravel.Ifyouforgettotagoffattheendofyourtrip,youwillbechargedthefareforthemaximumdistance.

HOW TO RENEW YOUR CARD
You should receive a renewal reminder 60 days before your card expires.
Ifyouhavea“P”(indicatingpermanentdisability)onyourcard,completearenewalapplicationandmailittotheMedicalCertifieralongwithacheckormoneyorderfor$3.Ifyoudonotreceivearenewalapplication,callyourlocaltransitagencyat511torequestone.
Ifyoudonothavea“P”onyourcard,youmustrenewinpersonatyourlocaltransitagency.
Allow15to21businessdaystoreceiveyourcardinthemail.
Transferring value and Autoload settings:
Ifyouroldcardhasacashvaluebalancewhenitexpires,callClipperCustomerServiceafteryoureceiveyournewcardtorequestthefundsbetransferred.
IfyouhadAutoloadsetuponyourcard,you’llneedtosetitupagainonyournewcard.
