The year 2011 has eventually come to an end, and what a year this has been!
Recession, petrol hikes, food hikes, electricity hikes . . . but, we have made it!
Now 2012 is waiting for us with open arms.
We as parents cannot always give our children the quality time that we would like to. Bless all the wonderful people that are taking care of our precious angels every day!
Please have a look at the different schools we have listed. Many schools are now working with waiting lists as there is such a high demand for quality schooling. Parents, when choosing a school or day care for your child, do not leave it until the last minute!
Enjoy the interesting articles from children carrying heavy school bags, packing for a holiday with the family, sun safety and car safety.
Have a fantastic holiday season and many blessings to you and your families. When driving, remember to buckle up!
Until next time God Bless
Kidz/s regards Jeanne

Most teachers kick off the school year by introducing themselves and talking about all the stuff you’ll be doing that year. Some teachers give students a chance to tell something about themselves to the rest of the class.
When teachers do the talking on the first day, they often go over classroom rules so you’ll know what’s allowed and what’s not. Pay close attention so you’ll know if you need to raise your hand to ask a question and what the rules are about visiting the restroom.
You might already know a lot of kids in your classes on the first day. But it’s a great day to
make a new friend, so try to say hello to kids you know and new ones that you don’t.
Make the first move and you’ll be glad you did and so will your new friend!

If I h ad my c hild tora ise a ll over aga in,
I ’d build sel f-esteem first, and the house later.
I ’d finger-pa int more, and point the finger less.I would do less correcting
and more connecting.I ’d take my eyes o ff my watc h,
and watc h with my eyes.I ’d take more hikes and
fly more kites.I ’d stop playing serious,
and seriously play.I would run through more fields and gaze
at more stars.I ’d do more hugging

Once there was a boy who needed to do his home work. His homework was to write down his family’s favourite words. So when he got home he asked his mom who was listening to the radio, “What is your favourite word mom?”“Shut up!” So he wrote that down. Then he went to his dad who was watching football and his favourite team had just scored a goal, so the little boy asked his dad,”What is your favourite word dad?”“Yeah!” So he wrote that down.Next he went to his big sister and he asked her, “What is your favourite word?”She was listening to her favourite CD and said, “A lollipop, a lollipop, a lollipop.” So he wrote that down.Next he went to his brother. He was watching the end of Batman, he asked him, “What is your favourite word?”“Nananananananana Batman!” so he wrote that down. Then he went to his baby sister who was playing with her cars. So he asked her, “What is your favourite word?”“Voom, voom car, a voom, voom car.” So he wrote that down. The next day at school, the teacher asked him to share his homework with the classHe said, “Shut up!” The teacher said, “Do you want to go to the principal’s office?”“Yeah!”“What do you think you deserve?”“A lollipop, a lollipop, a lollipop.”“Who do you think you are?” “Nananananananana Batman!”“What do you think you are going to get away with?”“Voom, voom car, a voom, voom car.”

Q. What d id the math book say to the other math book?A. “I ’ve got problems.”
A first grade
teacher was telling
her students the
story of “Chicken
Little.” She got
to the part when
Chicken Little ran
up to the Farmer
saying, “The sky is
falling. The sky is
falling.” Then the
teacher paused and asked the kids what they
thought the farmer said. One little girl raised her
hand and the teacher called on her. The little girl
then said, “I think the farmer said Holy cow, a
talking chicken!”

“Explain the theory of expansion and contraction,” the teacher asked one of the pupils. “A substance expands when it is heated and contracts when it is cooled.”“No wonder we have a long vacation in summer and a short one in winter,” remarked another pupil.
“Teacher, Teacher I need to pee!”“Let me hear your ABC’s.” “Okay, A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O Q R S T U V W X Y and Z.” “Good job, except where is the P?”“Halfway down my leg!”

Whether traveling by car, airplane, train, boat or any other form of communal transportation, it’s important to carry a few essentials that are easily accessible at all times. This will make the travel experience more enjoyable for everyone. These must-have items will vary with the age of the child. But, in general, the following should
be kept close at hand: food, drink, wet wipes, changes of clothes, distractions (games, toys, etc.) and lots of plastic bags. Everything you need is going to require a generous piece of lug-gage. Don’t forget those comfort items. Some kids can’t get to sleep without their binky, teddy, blankie or nightlight.

The school bag dilemmaYou can’t tell your children not to bring their textbooks to and from school – but what if the consequence of a consistently overloaded backpack is neck, back and shoulder pain? Chiropractors, paediatricians and ortho-paedic surgeons all agree that backpacks are a problem for a child’s spine.
While Healthcare professionals do not agree on the ex-act weight, the consensus is that a child burdened with more than 10 percent of their body weight risks back and neck pain. The majority of Healthcare profession-als agree that a child carrying 15 percent or more of their body weight can suffer from severe back, neck and shoulder pain, headaches and other spinal discomfort; not to mention aggravate pre-existing spinal conditions such as scoliosis.

The first priority in purchasing a backpack is to select func-tion over fashion. Here are a few criteria to consider when choosing a better functional backpack:The backpack should fit properly (not too long or short). It should have wide, padded, adjustable straps (for proper positioning on the back).A backpack with a hip strap or lumbar pillow provides additional protection. The hip strap, when used, can distribute a portion of the weight to the hips, easing the load on the spine and shoulders. The use of a lumber pillow will provide the necessary back support to the lumbar region, where the greatest portion of weight is being carried.
A backpack stuffed with that “extra” book, binder, elec-tronic device or water bottle could easily add an unnec-essary 10 pounds. Parents need to show their children the importance of loading and carrying their backpacks appropriately. The heaviest items should rest against the back, which means lading them first and attempt-ing to distribute the weight evenly. Remember that when it comes to choosing a backpack or school bag, think function before fashion. Your child’s health depends on it. If you need more advice on the subject – talk to your chiropractor who is an expert in spinal health.
