We will not be holding a monthly luncheon, lunch n learn or mixer in March.
Historically, it has been difficult to get attendance to March events due to spring
break. Plus we are gearing up to host another spectacular Black Tie & Auction on
April 5.

Part 1 and 2 of this series were excellent: Interviewing Skills and Retention and
Attraction. March 27 features Employee Engagement. These are 2 hour sessions,

Cowichan Job Fair - Mar. 25 - Excellent Opportunity for Employers & JobS

Global Vocational Services, the Cowichan WorkBC Employment Services Centre for
Cowichan is hosting the 2nd annual Cowichan Job Fair. Last year, businesses filled
one hall at Quw'utzun Cultural Centre with 800 prospective employees in
attendance. This year, the Job Fair will expand to 2 Halls. Businesses exhibit for
free! If you are a business who is hiring now, or recruiting for the future, the Job

Awards
We are ramping up for another stunning Black Tie Awards & Auction evening on
April 5, 2014. This is the 18th year of the Awards which honour excellence in volunteerism and business
throughout the Cowichan region. The Awards are also a fundraising event for the
Chamber, and we are reaching out to businesses for donations to the Silent
Auction. Please consider being part of the Awards by donating a product or service
- items of all values are welcome.
The Black Tie Awards take place Saturday, April 5 in the
spectacular waterfront setting at Brentwood College. Your donations will be
beautifully displayed to an enthusiastic audience at this prestigious event; we
anticipate 250 in attendance.
Confirmation of your support would be appreciated as soon as possible so that so
we can organize a great auction and best represent your donation.

Required Anti-Bullying Workplace Training Available Online - Special Member Pricing
The BC Chamber has partnered with the Respect Group Inc. to offer a 1.5 hour online training program for all
employees of chambers and their members. This program will assist so they are in compliance with the new workplace
discrimination, bullying and harassment provincial law (Bill 14, which came into force Nov. 1, 2013). RGI meets the
training requirements as outlined in the WorkSafeBC legislation/toolkit. Fast, effective, accredited and economical,
the course is $32 for members (regularly $40). Contact the office to get your access code and have the required
training done by the end of the day.

UCBM Special Committee on BC Ferries - Members Requested to Participate in Online Survey
British Columbia local governments have formed a Special Committee to examine the economic significance of BC
Ferries cutbacks and fare increases. The Special Committee has been jointly established by the Association of
Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities and the Union of B.C. Municipalities, along with the Ferry Advisory
Committee Chairs and Coastal Regional District Chairs. The Special Committee will oversee the work of a consultant
who will conduct an analysis to estimate the economic significance of the proposed BC Ferries service reductions on
communities. The first report is expected later this month. The Committee is also interested in your input. Please
follow the link and submit your opinions regarding the ferry system.
