As a Muslim we follow the Sunnahul-Nabi.

The sunnah of PROPHET is his WAY in essentiallyall matters of life.

He is the living image of the Quran. In QURAN ALLAH says

SAY (O MUHAMMAD): IF YOU (REALLY) LOVEALLAH THEN FOLLOW ME, ALLAH WILL LOVE YOU

AND FORGIVE YOU OF YOUR SINS(3:31)

In another place ALLAH says

HE WHO OBEYS THE MESSENGER HASINDEED OBEYED ALLAH(4:80)

A standard definition of the sunnah of theProphet(SAW) is ALL statements, actions andimplicit acceptances coming from the

PROPHET(SAW) whose intention is legislation,guidance or providing example.

Many verses of the Holy Quran deal withquestions of law but not all the injunctions of theShariah are clearly stated in it. There are manystatements which needed further explanationsbefore they could become guides for humanactions. This explanation and clarification wasprovided by the Holy Prophet who himselfparticipated in the formation of Shariah.

ZAKAT:- In Quran we are commanded to payZAKAT but the amount or percentage is notmentioned .

NAMAZ:- In QURAN ALLAH says to offer prayerfive times a day but the frequency of prayerand the number of Rakaats in each prayer is notmentioned....

For this we have to follow the SUNNAT of thePROPHET(SAW)

All sayings, actions, approvals and ruling of theProphet(SAW) is recognized as the sunnah

Understanding the sunnah requires an

understanding of the Quran , the intricacies ofits words, and the time and circumstances of itsrevelations.

To formulate a working understanding of the

sunnah, ijtihad is necessary and fiqh is thenatural output of ijtihad

The Seera(biography) andShamail(characteristics) of the Prophet(SAW)play a crucial role in understanding the sunnah

The acknowledgement of the role ofzuhd(asceticism) and tasawwuf (mysticism) ascrucial kernels of the Sunnah.

Hadith:- hadith indicates the sayings of the HolyProphet(SAW).

Sunnah:- indicates the doings of the HolyProphet(SAW).

It is reported by Abdullah Bin Masud that the

Holy Prophet(SAW) had said only two things carry importance one isspeech and other is the method of action. Sothe words of Allah are the best of speech and

the best method is the deeds of the HolyProphet.

Numerous collection of hadis were prepared bymany scholars from various angels and differentmethods were adopted in arrangement of material.

Categories

1. MUSNAD:-traced to each companion was put togetherunder his name e.g. musnad of Abu Bakr, musnadof Abu Hurairah etc

2. Second category:-

grouped into chapters and sub-chaptersaccording to the theme e.g. purity, prayers,fasting, zakat, marriage and so on.

IMAM Muhammad Ibn Ismailal-Bukhari A.Hwas the first to give the idea of compiling theauthentic ahadis and therefore he called his

compilation as Sahih, the authentic

compilations. It took him sixteen years tocompile this work.

We must recognize the dynamic nature of Islamjurisprudence that allows for Islamic law to beinterpreted with a modern lens

We must recognize the superiority of thetraditional practices of the Prophet(SAW)

Muslim must return to the Seera of the HolyProphet(SAW)

We must return to him as the mercy to humanitythat He is.

He must not be viewed as a textbook to bestudied and regurgitated, but rather as theexcellence of humanity, the pinnacle of humanachievement and the culmination of human

development. It is reported that the holyProphet(SAW) said: NO ONEOF YOU WILL BELIEVE UNTIL I AM MORE BELOVEDTO HIM THAN HIS CHILDREN, HIS FATHER AND ALL

PEOPLE.

A Muslim should adopt the value judgments of theProphet

A Muslim should try to understand and follow theprophets world of faith, his world of soul, and hisworld of opinion.

A Muslim should follow the basic steps of sunnah,that is Prophet understand of tawheed, His breakingof the material and spiritual idols including His nafs,

his rejection, his love for Allah, his fear for Allah , Hisunderstanding of fate and submission ,Hisprecaution, His value judgments.
