    INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING MANUSCRIPTSFOR PROCEEDINGS OF ConMat09

    1. INTRODUCTION

    The proceedings will be produced in both CD-ROMand paper versions from the submitted PDF (PortableDocument Format) files. Therefore, the authors arefully responsible for manuscripts, figures, tables andphotographs. It is essential to conform rigorously to thefollowing instructions for the preparation of the

    manuscripts.

    2. TRANSFER OF COPYRIGHT

    By submitting papers to the Organizing Committee,authors automatically transfer copyright to theOrganizing Committee. Papers in the proceedings may

    be copied and reprinted in whole or in part at thediscretion of the Organizing Committee.

    3. REQUIREMENT FOR MANUSCRIPTS

    A PDF file of the complete manuscript should besubmitted. The size of the PDF file must be less than2.0 megabytes (M bytes). Texts must be single-spacedwith a 10 pt typeface, in Times or Times New Roman

    typeface. It is required that authors use one-bytecharacters because a document including two-bytecharacters cannot be read on English version PCs. Thelength of the manuscripts should be six or eight pages.

    4. REVIEW OF MANUSCRIPTS

    The Organizing Committee editorially reviews all

    manuscripts and may ask the authors to clarify and/or

    revise the manuscript as appropriate. Sometimes the

    editorial staff may offer suggestions on the style andformat.

    5. TEXT FORMAT

    All submissions should be prepared according to thefollowing guidelines to ensure that the papers can bereproduced without any difficulties and to let readerseasily find information they need.

    Place a full page of text and figures within the margin

    on each page. A4 size sheets should be used. The topand bottom margins are 25 mm and 20 mm,

    respectively. The left and right margins are 22 mm each.The single column format for Title, Authors' names andAbstract, and the double column format for the bodytext should be applied. All other instructions on thestyle are given below.

    (1) The title starting from the third line should be typed

    in Arial or Helvetica typeface in all capital letters. Thetypeface size is 14 pt and to be centered.(2) Allow two blank lines between the title and theauthors' full names. The first author should be thespeaker. The full names should be left-justified. The lastname of each author should be typed in all capitals.

    Each authors name is followed by his/her title,affiliation, and country.

    (3) Nothing is allowed to appear in the header or footer.(4) Allowing two blank lines from authors' names,

    "ABSTRACT:" should be typed in Arial or Helveticatypeface in all capital letters. The typeface size is 10 ptand to be centered. The abstract should be not morethan 6 lines.(5) Keywords of not more than 2 lines shall be placed

    below the abstract starting with "Keywords: " in Arial

    or Helvetica typeface.(6) Allow two blank lines between the keywords andthe body text.(7) In the body text, the major and second level

    headings should be typed in Arial or Helvetica typefaceand numbered. The major headings should be typed inall capital letters. Only the first letter of each word inthe second level heading is capitalized. All headingsshould be left-justified. The headings entitled

    INTRODUCTION and CONCLUSIONS or asynonym are normally requested. The headings of

    ACKNOWLEDGEMENT and REFERENCES arenot numbered and must be centered. Leave a one-line

    space above and below the major headings. Allow aone-line space above each second level heading.(8) An example of headings is given below:

    (9) Allow one-line blank between paragraphs.(10) References should be indicated in the text byconsecutive numbers in the brackets, as follows:

    (11) All references should appear together at the end ofthe text. The references are cited in a numbered list ofthe following styles:

    1. Davis, J. M. and Sato, I., "Simplified Diaphragm

    2. Shanley, F. R., "Basic Structures," John Willey &Sons Inc., 1947, pp.291-314.

    (12) Authors can use abbreviations of academic

    societies such as JCI, JSCE, AIJ, ACI, ASCE, ASTM,C&CA,fib, IABSE, ISO, PCA, RILEM and WCEE.

    6. FIGURE, TABLE AND PHOTOGRAPH

    Figures and tables must be numbered and placed with

    captions, where they are referred to in the text. Captions

    of figures and photographs should appear below them,while captions of tables should be typed above.Captions are typed in Arial or Helvetica typeface.Allow enough spacing between the text and

    illustrations.

    Either black and white or color figures, tables andphotographs are allowed. However, it should be notedthat the proceedings are printed in black and white. The

    authors should confirm the appearance of the

    manuscripts with black and white printings beforesubmission. In addition, color photographs willsignificantly increase the size of a PDF file.

    7. EQUATIONS

    All equations are included in the text and numbered

    such as (1), (2) and (3). Numbering of equations shouldbe right-justified. In the text, equations are referred toas Eq. 1, Eqs. 2 and 3, for example. Allow a one-linespacing above and below equations.

    8. SYSTEM OF UNITS

    The International System of Units (SI) should apply.

    9. NOTIFICATIONS FOR PDF FILES

    All submissions are required to be in the form of PDFfiles using Adobe Acrobat or an equivalent software.Any PDF files, which are larger than 2.0 M bytes,cannot be accepted.

    After the PDF file is obtained, the author should checkwhether the PDF file has the same image as the printoutof the original document, especially the location and

    size of figures, tables and photographs. The number ofpages in the PDF files should be checked strictly. Insome cases, the PDF file may become more than eightpages even if the original manuscript is eight pages.

    10. INITIAL SUBMISSION OF PAPERS

    Only electronic submission to the OrganizingCommittee will be accepted. Any manuscripts must bein the form of PDF files. The PDF file should not be inthe compressed form (e.g. a zip file). To submit your

    paper, please go to the submission web site below. Thedeadline for paper submission is February 28, 2009. If

    your submission does not reach the OrganizingCommittee by the date, the Organizing Committeereserves the right to reject the manuscripts. More detailscan be obtained from the web site below.

    11. OTHER IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION

    (1) Any modifications on authors' information must be

    informed to the Organizing Committee at thesubmission of the paper.
