Where is Coniston

This map shows the location of Coinston. Coniston is a small town near to Ambleside and

Windermere. The journey will takes us 2- hours.

Park Coppice Coniston

Park Coppice Caravan site is a beautiful caravan site near the banks of Coniston Water. The site has excellent

showers, toilets & cleaning factillies.

Brantwood

Brantwood is a historical house of the writer and artist John Ruskin, the house & gardens are situated

near to the gentle banks of Coniston Water. The house & gardens are open to the public daily. It is worthy

seeing when you are up in Coniston.

John Ruskin was a famous poet, writer and artist. He lived and work in Brantwood from 1862 to his

death in 1900.

Today, Brantwood is a historical place and attraction in Coniston. It allows the public to see

the wonderful artfacts of Ruskin life.

Ruskin died in 1900 and was buried in St Andrew’s Church Coniston, through his

legacy, the Ruskin Museum in Coniston is also a famous attraction to be seen near

the water.

Coniston Church

St Andrew’s Church was built in 1863, the church is a historical place in Coniston. The main attractions of the church are the grave of John Ruskin, the lovely stained windows and

glass

Tarn Hill is a beautiful walk near forests, woodland and the beautiful Coniston Water. The walk is 3-5 miles and the nature reserve near Tarn Hill & Coniston Water are looked after by National Trust.

The Ruskin Museum

The Ruskin Museum is a popular museum/gallery related to the life of John Ruskin. The museum also contains artficats of pottery,

paints and pictures through Ruskin life. There is also a exhibition about the Bluebird tale and Donald Campbell. There is also a gift shop where

you can get leaflets or a fridgemagnet from the museum.

Ambleside & GrasemereAmbleside is a beautiful and popular town in the Lake

District, it has many shops, walks, cafes, pubs. The town is also a haven for people to walk near. There is a shop

which you can purchase walking shoes for walking in the Lakeland Hills.

Grasemere is also a haven for people to walk and look at. William Wordsworth lived here and he is buried in the local church. Grasmere Gingerbread is also a world famous product made in Grasmere.

Lake WindermereWindermere is one of the most beautiful iconic

and amazing lakes in Cumbria. The lake has natural wildlife on the water.

The lake is a popular lake in Cumbria, it provides the Great North Swim each year

and also it is also a clean lake in Cumbria.

Donald was born in 1921, son of Malcolm Campbell, he rose to fame with many speeding racing boats in America, Australlia and Europe in

1940 and 1950.

In 1960, Campbell came back to England, he wanted to race on water after competing land speed in America. One winter’s day

in January 1967, it was a cold morning, when Bluebird rose onto Coniston Water, suddenly at 365mph Bluebird suddenly

flipped and killed Campbell.

In 2001, Bill Smith & his divers found Bluebird. After DNA search, the body of Campbell was finally buried in Coniston Cemetery on 12th

February 2001.

Lakeland MuseumThe Lakeland Museum is a popular museum in Windermere, 5 miles away from Coniston. The

museum provides you with a tour of Malcolm Campbell and Donald’s boat and air craft they used in 1920 and

1960. There are 100 years old of history and contains the history of Bluebird and Campbell.

The museum also has a shop, café, walks to the river and gardens. It is a local museum housed with amazing

boats from the waters of Coniston and Windermere.
