A WORD FROM OUR BOARD OF EDUCATIONAnother successful school year has passed and we are

busily preparing for the 2015-16 school year that will soon be upon us. Please pray with me that the Lord will guide and direct as we interview and hire new teachers and staff.

A big thank you goes out to several board members whose terms have expired. Steve Nowak faithfully served for four years in several capacities. Kiersten Heckert also served for four years as chairman of the Education Committee and served an additional eight years as a teacher. Vicki DeMarco served eight years as Board Secretary and also served in various capacities on the board of “Friends of Heritage”, where she continues to serve. Finally, Bob Harmelink served faithfully for twenty years; many of those years as Chairman of the Board. He will continue to head up our Annual Conquerors Golf Scramble fundraiser. His service to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through his endeavors at Heritage is to be commended. Without these faithful volunteers, and others like them, the important work of leading our school would not be possible. To God be the glory!

Thankfully, the Lord has provided new and capable board

members to continue the legacy of providing a Christ-centered education to our students. Please join me in welcoming the following new board members:

Tammy Lamiell comes to us as a parent of HCS student, Ethan Lamiell, and wife of fellow board member Steve Lamiell. She is currently serving as Chairman of the Association Committee.

Lynn Helscher comes to us from Aultman Hospital, where she is employed as Wellness Coordinator. She has just been elected by the board for the important position of Secretary. Lynn is married to husband Mike and they have one grown son.

Brenda Stevens is employed by Malone University as Director of Multicultural Services and shares ownership of local business “City Flooring & Design” with her husband. She has a Masters Degree in Higher Education Administration. Brenda is excited to serve on our board as Chairman of the Education Committee.

Please join me in welcoming these dedicated volunteers to the Heritage Christian School family.

In Christ,Tim Rexrode, Chairman

THANK YOU MR. PIZOR FOR 30 YEARS OF SERVICE! The Pizor family has been a part of Heritage Christian

School of Canton, Ohio since the very beginning. As the early planning progressed for the school in 1967, the Pizor family became part of the initiative to build a school where values were taught in the classroom were consistent with Godly values taught in the church and the home. Mr. Pizor served at Heritage as teacher, building and grounds manager, elementary principal and Head Principal.

After 30 years of service, Mr. J. Howard Pizor has officially retired on June 12, 2015. Heritage Christian has been blessed by Mr. Pizor’s love of the people, students and their families, and the staff that have faithfully served. Even after all of his years at Heritage, he rarely forgets a face and is always eager to pull out the yearbook to reminisce with a former student. His quick wit has kept families and staff alike laughing over the years and his passion for sharing God’s love with each child he came across has forever changed the lives of many.

The community, former families, alumni, and friends came to celebrate his legacy at Canton Baptist Temple on June 5th.

I want you all to know that I am leaving this great school with mixed emotions. Sure, it will be different and exciting to move more into the ‘grandpa / retirement’ mode with most days feeling like ‘Saturdays’, but it is sad to be leaving the students, their families, HCS team of co-workers, and fellow-laborers in the work of Christ. I have so many wonderful friends and colleagues here. The past 30 years have gone by so quickly.

I remember my initial interview with Secondary Principal, Carolyn Cole and the Board Chairman, Bob Johnson. In fact, I even remember one of the questions they asked me at the interview.

Here it is - see what you would say. “If the school strongly feels that a failing student needs to be retained but the parents don’t agree, what would you do?” My answer was,

“Ahhh, ahhh, ahhh, I don’t know. What is the school’s policy on that?”

I want to thank you all for your love and time we have gotten to share over the years. Well dear friends, my very best wishes for every one of you!

Howard Pizor(Not “Harold” as it has in the first yearbook when I came

to HCS. I’m glad they finally learned my name.)

NEW LEADERSHIP AT HCSAs Heritage is going through a new shift in leadership,

it has been decided and approved by the Board of Education to move to a K-12 unified model.

Karla Robinson has accepted the position of Head Principal. Mrs. Robinson has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a Master of Arts degree in Education. She has worked in a variety of instructional environments from preschool to tutoring, and secondary teaching to administration. Previously, Mrs. Robinson served as the Secondary Principal at

Heritage.

Donavon “Marty” Martin has accepted the position of Assistant Principal and School Chaplain. In addition to his service in the United States Marine Corps. Reserve, Mr. Martin has a Bachelor’s degree in Education and is beginning his Master’s degree program in the summer. He has taught secondary social studies and

Bible for the past eight years at Heritage and has served as Minister of Minerva Church of Christ since 2005.

GOODBYE MRS. SEESEJune 4, 2015 was Mrs. Seese’s

last day as a Heritage employee. Mrs. Seese came to us 9 years ago and has played a vital role in the success of the secondary students, families and staff. Mrs. Seese wrote:

“Well, my time at HCS has drawn to a close. It has been a privilege beyond mere words to serve the King of Kings as it is He who brought me

to Heritage in a work capacity. I have been blessed to work alongside such an amazing group of people. I have great things ahead of me that I am really looking forward to. I have experienced some really great moments, some really awful moments and some truly “amazing left a mark on my soul for life” moments too. My time here is something that hasn’t been just “a job” or just “work”, it has been life altering in many ways.

My thanks to each and every one of you for every word of encouragement, every compliment, every ear that has been lent to me. You may not see me in the office, but I will be around!”

Many blessings to you Mrs. Seese as God leads you through your next journey.

2014-2015 YEAR IN REVIEWSCHOOL YEAR THEME:

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him;

male and female created he them.” Genesis 1:27

ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORTGreetings,

I am pleased to present the annual summary of Heritage Christian School. It has been an exciting year of growth! In addition to serving more children, we have further aligned the school for success through many new changes this year.

To ensure the safety of everyone in our building, we have redesigned

our entrance and added new security measures. To support our growing student body, we have added a Director of Curriculum and Instruction as well as a Dean of Students to our staff. These changes continue our mission of achieving the ABCs: Academic excellence through a Bible-based curriculum with a Commitment to our community.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who positively impacts the lives of children at Heritage Christian School. This includes a committed Board of Education, a devoted staff, loving parents, students and community members. Praise also to God for his continued faithfulness to the school. As Psalms 119:90 (NIV) says, “Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures.”

Thank you for your continued support of our school. Your help allows us to provide our students with an excellent educational and spiritual experience, while serving as a beacon for our community.

In Christ,Sharla M. Elton, MBA, CMA

round of online testing, a new Internet content filter will be implemented during the last few weeks of the school year for evaluation. It is hoped that this filter will provide more robust, yet granular, content filtering to continue to provide a safe and secure internet experience.

2014-2015 YEAR IN REVIEWATHLETIC HIGHLIGHTS

Fall Sports• Girls Cross Country – We re-established our cross

country team. Katie Grimes ran in the Regional Meet and was one race away from the State Race.

• Golf – The Team improved their sectional score by over 90 strokes. Only one player from the team is a senior so next year should prove to be very exciting.

Winter Sports• Bowling – We welcomed a new coach that worked

very well with the kids. Next season should be the best yet with only one senior graduating this year.

• Girls basketball – The ladies improved immensely and won 7 games. The team overcame injury and sickness to have a great season.

• Boys Basketball – Despite the record, the team played great basketball. We are returning a great number of players and will continue to build an exciting boys basketball program.

Spring Sports• Track and Field – The boys team was very small, but

they performed well in many individual events. The girls team is the largest we have had in many years. The Lady Conquerors finished tied with East Canton in the Tri-Meet against Garaway and East Canton High Schools. This is the first time a Heritage Varsity Track Team has tied or beaten a school in a regular non-invitational meet.

• Baseball – The Varsity Baseball team won its OHSAA first round sectional tournament game. This is the first time since 2004 that the Heritage Varsity Baseball Team has won an OHSAA tournament game, and the first time since 2008 any Heritage Varsity Team has won an OHSAA tournament game.

PRESCHOOL PROGRESS

Fifty-two students are enrolled in the preschool at Heritage. We are very pleased with the growth and retention of the preschool students. Our teaching staff has done a remarkable job this year and we are tremendously blessed to have each of them here at HCS. We have 34 students that will be graduating Pre-K this school year and 20 students are planning on continuing their education at HCS.

2014-2015 Highlights:• We welcomed four new staff this year• Four families were provided a Christmas through the

generous donation of our staff and Board.• Students raised $562 for the Annual Heritage Hike• Staff began training on the new Creative Curriculum

being implemented for the 2015-2016 school year.

SPIRITUAL LIFESpiritual Emphasis week

was January 12-16. This was an amazing week. Pastor Kirk Kirkland from inner city Cincinnati Revive Ministry spent Tuesday through Thursday with us. Pastor Ron Kent helped with music, so that our musicians could also worship. On the final day, our Spiritual Life Chairman, Mike Schulze, set up a wonderful day of prayer and Bible study. We had five different speakers, including local football great Troy Paisley, who had an amazing

testimony. This day was spent at Canton Baptist Temple and we thank them for allowing us to use their facility. Several students committed their lives to the Lord during this week of spiritual growth.
