I hope and pray that this newsletter finds you and your loved ones doing well! It seems like Christmas was just yesterday, and now we are getting ready to prepare ourselves for Lent. This month we are beginning a sermon series titled, “Renegade Gospel,” where we will take a fresh look at Jesus’ life, ministry and death. I realize that the Lenten season is a time for introspection, reflection, self-awareness and ultimately confession with repentance. I don’t know about you, but for me, Lent can feel a little heavy at times. As such, I remind myself that Lent, while very important, is a season in a much bigger picture. Lent is part of the journey in reaching our ultimate destination. Yet I realize that without Lent, I would not be able to more fully appreciate Christ’s unconditional love. I would not be able to more fully appreciate that sin does not have the final word in our world. In many ways for me, Lent is like shoveling your driveway and sidewalks. It’s hard work. It’s not glamorous. It’s not always fun. But in the end, it’s necessary in order to persevere and win the race. Jesus didn’t take any shortcuts on his way to the cross. He plowed through the hard work and obstacles in front of him. It wasn’t easy, but the end result was incredible. This Lent, may the hard work and obstacles in front of us serve as reminders, and more importantly, as a promise of what is to come. Blessings, Brian

A Big Thank You to all who helped with UNHANGING OF GREENS Sunday after the Epiphany/Three Kings church service. You are all very much appreciated.

Our Sympathy goes out to: Elmer Parson and Family on the death of his wife Jean who passed on December 31st. Pastors Brian and Mary presided over her service on January 9th Norma and Ken Patton on the death of Norma’s sister, Connie Miller, who was 106.

Thanks to the Sisters Study Group for serving us

during the Fellowship Hour between services in January and to the

UMW Mary Martha Group who are serving us in February

On Sunday, February 14, 2016 we will have 15 capable and caring adults commissioned in our Sunday morning services as Stephen Ministers. These men and women have committed and participated in 50 hours of training. They attended classes every Monday night from Sept. 28, 2015 – Feb. 8, 2016. In additional to these meeting nights, they attended a Saturday morning retreat in February and will attend continuing education classes following their commissioning. Now is the time for the real ministry to begin. Each Stephen minister will be assigned a care receiver. Perhaps some of you are wondering what that will entail. Consider the following questions that might answer your questions about Stephen Ministry. Who will benefit from a Stephen Minister? Persons who have experienced any type of loss or crisis in their lives such as the following: death of a loved one, divorce, loss of job, retirement, physical illness, physical illness of a loved one, hospitalization, disability, child who has moved and/ or gotten married or gone off to school, loss of friend or pet, and loneliness are just a few of the major stressors that cause someone to need a Stephen Minister. What is it like to meet with a Stephen Minister? A Stephen Minister will meet weekly with their “receiver” in person or by phone. They are trained to be good listeners, compassionate, consistent. They provide a safe place to be “real” with someone. They let you talk and they listen to your concerns without judgement or attitude. Will Stephen Ministers pray with me? Of course. They help their care receivers experience God’s unconditional love. No matter what you may have done or not done, Stephen Ministers will care for their receivers by praying for and with them and providing spiritual care that leads to spiritual healing. If you receive a Stephen Minister you will grow spiritually and emotionally through the personal care and concern. If you are going through a difficult time and would like to learn more about receiving personal care by a Stephen Minister please contact Pastor Mary or Pastor Brian for more information. There you will find it - God’s love in action.

Grace and Peace, Mary

Sundays at First UMC

8:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary 5:00 p.m. in King’s Corner

Thank You From The Wind River Reservation!

Pam Englehart, who runs the children’s program at the Rez e-mailed me this week to let me know how the Christmas gift-giving went! Here are some of the things she shared with me: Anika was so excited with her artist’s easel!! She kept saying “I’ve always wanted one of these and never thought I would get one!!” Aryanna was the same way with her Sharpie Markers – “I’ve always wanted colored sharpies, but never thought I would get this many!” Matt and Deanna were SO grateful for their dishes and flatware. Deanna had to work that afternoon, but Matt kept saying “Thank you!!” He called the next day and said Deanna couldn’t believe they had received such a wonderful gift! Millie and Burton were so pleased to get the card and bought groceries for their family and shared it with her aunt. Millie’s cousin abandoned her 3 kids (ages 2,4 & 5) on Dec. 20th with her aunt who has dialysis 3 times a week. We and First Baptist bought diapers, food and Christmas gifts (you also helped with that with the extra gifts you sent). Everyone was grateful and happy, these are just a few of the highlights. Those present felt the love and caring from all of you! Thank you, and God bless!

Greetings! We hope you are finding peace and joy in the start of this New Year! It is hard to imagine that the first month of 2016 is in the books! As we continue into this New Year we encourage you to think about the legacy you leave when you die. If you do not have a will, or have not updated it recently, make this your resolution for the month of February. Below is an excerpt on wills from Dave Ramsey, author, radio talk show host and creator of Financial Peace University (some portions have been edited for space but you may read the entire blog at:

http://www.daveramsey.com/blog/the-importance-of-having-a-will/).

The Importance of Having a Will Estate planners tell us that nearly 70% of Americans die without a will. Folks, this is dumb –really dumb. If you hate the people in your life, die without a will, because you're going to tie them up for years. A will is a gift you leave your family or loved ones. It is a gift because it makes the management of your estate very clear and light-years easier. If you don't have a will, the state (not known for its financial prowess) will decide what happens to your stuff, your kids, and your financial legacy. You don't want this to happen. Even if you're single, get a will right now! … How to Get a Will

The easiest and most cost-effective way to go about making a will nowadays is to use one of the online legal services. You can also contact a good estate attorney; however, that will cost a bit more money. Typically, with your attorney, you can create mirror-image wills. That way, if one of you dies, the surviving spouse will get the entire estate. Everything is pretty much the same in both wills, with the exception of simply switching the names – hence mirror-image will. That is what Sharon and I have. Also, after someone has died, 98% of the time I recommend that the survivors keep the will and all related papers for seven years. But double check with an estate attorney.

This is something we all need to be doing. You are going to die, so go out in style, and die with a will in place. ******* There are many ways to create a will, the manner is not as important as the act of doing it. Wills are state specific as well so a will you created while living in another state may not stand in Wyoming or your current state of residence.

Yours in Christ ~~~ Rod and Toni Patik, Stewardship Leaders

On February 14, we will be asking you to covenant prayers for the children and youth of our Church. As you leave worship, you will receive a heart with a child’s name printed in it. Please keep this child in your daily prayers. You may wish to send cards to the children (e.g. birthday or holiday cards). There will be a box on the table by the elevator in the church, in which you can deposit any cards you wish to send. Simply place a postage stamp on the envelope of the card and write the child’s name on it, then place it in the box. The office will address and mail the cards. If you have any questions, please contact Kathie Walker or Nikki Gacke.

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or

resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all

things. Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an

end... And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

We as church members have many different ways to give to the church through our gifts, our presence, our service and our witness. One easy way to give to the church is through stocks. Did you know that we are set up to receive stock gifts? It’s as easy as calling your broker and

having them call our broker, Rita Stone at Morgan Stanley (307)266-3500. They will transfer the

stocks you choose into our account, at which time Rita will sell them. The church will apply the

full amount of the sale as you designate.

February 28, 2016 9:45 am - 12:15 pm

Road to Resurrection is a powerful event that will take you and your family or small group through Jesus’ last days on earth. Your family will travel to Jerusalem for Palm Sunday, sit down for the Last Supper, visit Barabbas in the prison, experience the sadness of the cross, and celebrate with Cleopas on the Joyful Road where you will discover that Jesus is ALIVE! This event is a great way to reflect on Jesus’ journey through his last steps on Earth. All ages, families, and groups are welcome to experience this event together then fellowship in Roadside Diner afterwards. Each location is an interactive skit where you will experience Jesus on the Road to Resurrection. We will send groups of 15-20 through every 15 minutes. The event will take approximately 1—1 1/2 hours to complete.
