Congratulations on your engagement! This is truly an exciting time in your life and also a very busy time! We would love to have the opportunity to assist you with your wedding plans. The Lucerne Inn is the perfect setting for your special day. For your ceremony, we have beautiful gazebos, both with breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding mountainsides. For your reception, we have several function and dining rooms, all with views of the lake and mountains. For your enjoyment, we have a variety of delicious menu options, skillfully prepared by our executive chefs and for your honeymoon and guests, we offer comfortable and elegant accommodations, all with gas fireplaces and tubs featuring whirlpool jets!

No matter the season, The Lucerne Inn is a sought after and very popular destination and setting for weddings. Down east Magazine has named us as one of the premier wedding locations in Maine. Wedding Wire has awarded us the prestigious Brides Choice Award for three consecutive years running for being in the top 5% of wedding venues in the state of Maine for excellence in quality, service, responsiveness and professionalism. We are now actively booking weddings through 2016. Saturday weddings book very quickly, however, we find that Friday evenings and Sundays are a very popular option. With this letter, we offer a 25% discount on your function room rental for Fridays and Sundays (excluding holiday weekends).

The History of The Lucerne Inn

In 1812, Nathan Phillips built a house and stable here to begin a farm. In fact, some of his apple trees exist on our property today. Farming was difficult though, on the hilly land, so Phillips took advantage of the fact that he was located on the stagecoach route halfway between Bangor and Ellsworth. He started taking in travelers as they passed by, and took care of their horses for them. The farmer became an innkeeper and it was a prosperous transformation. Word spread of this half-way house and soon Phillips needed more guest rooms. He joined his stable to his main house in 1814 for more space. The weary travelers were also well aware of the Phillips secret stash of champagne cider. Maine was a dry state at the time so the champagne cider stop was very inviting, albeit illegal! Early travelers to the Phillips house were reminded of Lucerne, Switzerland, hence, Lucerne-in-Maine and The Lucerne Inn were born.

Several owners and managers have operated the Lucerne Inn over the past two hundred years. Some have been more successful than others. After many fruitful years, culminating in the 1950s, 1970s and again in the 1980s, The Lucerne Inn fell on hard times. The economic recession at this time didnt help! Two local businessmen, who had fond memories of The Lucerne Inn from their childhood, purchased the inn in October of 1994. They wanted to restore the inn to its former glory. They put the quality of food and customer service at the forefront of the changes. Our supportive communities, in both Penobscot and Hancock counties, helped the inn to win back its reputation with both local patrons and food critics alike.

In 1999, a new banquet facility and conference center was added to The Lucerne Inn, The Overlook. This new building also has five, beautiful, guest suites to offer, some of which have a balcony that overlooks Phillips Lake. The Overlook has become one of Central Maines most fashionable event centers.

After completion of The Overlook, renovations began within the main Inn. Every guest room was completely renovated. All fireplaces were replaced with new, gas fireplaces and new carpeting was installed. A combination of original antiques, wooden, four-poster beds, and some new Victorian style furnishings create an inviting ambiance.

Our most noted additions includes a terrace and a heated, outdoor swimming pool. The stone paved terrace and canopy has a stunning view of the lake and beautifully, landscaped grounds. Two gazebos, the spectacular mountain views, and our expansive lawn offer endless inspiration for planning a wedding or other event with us.

The Lucerne Inn is situated in one of the most picturesque spots in Central Maine. The current owners, Steve and Rhonda Jones, are proud of its 200-year history and heritage. The inn continues its tradition of hospitality, casual fine dining, and beautiful country inn accommodations.

BEVERAGES

The Lucerne Inn, as Food and Beverage Licensees, provide the following guidelines for your safety. The law does not allow the consumption of alcohol by minors. State I.D.s will be required. Our staff has been instructed to refuse service to individuals who are visibly intoxicated. In any given situation we are happy to arrange transportation, if needed.

Our liquor license prohibits us from allowing you to bring your own alcohol onto our premises.

We do not charge a bartender fee or set up fee for your function bar, however we do require a $250.00 minimum in bar sales.

Exception- Should you request more than a single bar set up,

there will be an additional $100.00 set up fee per bar.
