Assistant Principal Faith and Mission Reports End of Semester reports will be sent out in the first week of the holidays. These reports are an excellent tool for reflecting on past performance; students must use the knowledge that this reflection provides to plan for more effective learning in the future. I hope that you will take the opportunity during the term break to sit down with your daughter and read through her report with her. Try to identify issues which emerge from the report and have a discussion with her about how problems might be addressed. This is very tangible way to support your daughter’s future learning. Celebrating her successes is also very important! Please note the following important dates:

1. Semester 1 Academic Awards Assembly 9.00am Tuesday, 24 July

2. Tuesday, 24 July Senior Pathways 2013 Information Night for all students currently in Year 10

3. Friday, 27 July Senior Pathways Course Counselling Day for all current Year 10 students. There are no scheduled classes on this day; however each student must attend an interview with their parent on this day. (please mark this in your calendar)

4. Monday, 30 July Issoudun (Year 9) and Year 10 Subject Selection Information Night

5. Thursday, 16 August Parent Teacher Night

I hope you all have a wonderful term break and that our students return refreshed for Term 3 as we are now heading to the business end of the school year.

Pinky Promise Week A touch of pink! In an attempt to get the girls to think about others and to look out for one another, the students were asked to make a pinky promise for each day of this week. The inspiration came from Rachel McNamara and was adapted by the Student Leadership team. At OLSH we are called to reverence relationships and touch the hearts of others and this is what this week invited the community to do: Massive Smile Monday, Tell a Friend Tuesday, Welcoming Wednesday, Thankyou Thursday and Fun Friday. Money raised from the week will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. We thank you for your support and thank the student leaders for the great concept and the work that they put into the organisation of the week.

Hartzer Happenings A group of enthusiastic Year 8s met up with Miss O’Loughlin on Friday for morning tea to give some input into the Issoudun Hartzer program for 2013. We appreciate the girls’ willingness to share their ideas and we look forward to working with them very closely as we embark on such an exciting journey together.

We thank the following Year 8 students who have volunteered to be a part of this group: Tessa Aldridge, Raphaela Alexopoulos, Aoife Barker, Taylor Barone, Emily Chan, Roschelle Chaudhary, Laura De Grazia, Jewel Elliott, Kaitlyn Faulkner, Priyanka Francis, Mikaela Hum, Isabella Kenne, Laura Kent, Rebecca Kofler, Anthea Lam, Alexandra Livis, Emer McAlinden, Samantha McBrearty, Amelia Mercuri, Kimi Ong, Hannah Peters, Olivia Petrou, Paris Tatter, Kate Tranter, Annelise Turco, Emma Vakis, Katrina Valiakas, Evangelia Vlahandreas, Meagan Vongkham, Laura Webb, Aviva White, Amy Williamson, Breanna Wilson, Alecia Wong, Ella Xu, Lisa Xu.

Issoundun ‘Shape your Dreams’ Breakfast

The Issoudun Breakfast was a great success and a wonderful opportunity to learn about our preferred careers. The day began with an early start with students arriving at 7.00am and the breakfast kicking off at 7:30. We had an opportunity to ask questions of the alumnae seated at our tables and enjoy breakfast with the assistance of the VCAL students. After the breakfast we had the opportunity to mingle with others at different tables. We were able to ask questions of various College alumnae about their experiences and the pathways they took to get to their current employment. We loved the chance to hear past OLSH students’ stories and dream about how we might begin to create our own. It was certainly an inspiring morning and it opened our eyes to the exciting futures we have ahead of us. We would like to thank Mrs Malone, the VCAL students and all of the special guests, for providing us with this wonderful opportunity to explore different pathways for our futures.

Library News

Thursday, 21 June was a momentous day in OLSH’s history as the inaugural Short Film Festival took place in the library. Students from St James College and OLSH competed for places of honour with their creative, exciting and innovative book trailers and spoofs. Screened in front of 70 members of OLSH’s Bookclubs and the St James film-makers, the trailers took us on journeys of suspense, intrigue, music and humour. The cold, rainy conditions outside added to the atmosphere as the lucky audience were treated to popcorn, drinks and lucky door prizes. But what of the results? Who won? It was a very tough decision for the judging panel as the boys and girls went to enormous efforts with scripts and costumes, not to mention special effects such as explosions! Each of the seven films had artistic merit, and each participant received acknowledgment in the form of a personal Oscar and certificate of participation. The three placegetters were:

1st place: Hunger Games Spoof: Kassie Fernando, Rachael McNamara, Aubrey Caldera-Page and Sarah Jones. (Prize: Gold class movie tickets) 2nd place: Catching Mockingjays The Musical: Connor Johnston, Spiros Galanos, and Kieran Lansakara (Prize: Movie tickets) 3rd place: Halo : Patricia Palmos, Helena Palmos, Margarita Theodoropoulos, Kaitlin Lawrence and Kate Burge (Prize: iTunes vouchers) PARTICIPANTS OF HONOUR: GOOD OMENS: Victoria Low YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES TRAILER: Julian Pitron and James Koutsodontis CHERUB: Cletus Mariyadis, Joshua Wigg and Thomas Wigg SPOOKS : Daniel Brady CHRONICLES OF ANCIENT DARKNESS: Isabelle Burns

On behalf of Mrs Deirdre Riordan (Teacher/Librarian St.James) and myself, I would like to thank members of our Library teams (Mrs Chris Lechinski, Ms Julie Cooper, Mrs Lin Cooper, Mrs Michelle Einsiedel and Mrs Jan Callanan) for their support and assistance in food preparation, publicity, displays and technical expertise. It was a fantastic event!!

Come in to look at the wonderful work of our Year 10 VisCom and design class as well as stunning photographic pieces from Year 9. This feast for the eyes has been lovingly prepared by Julie Cooper.

As always, the Library is THE place to be!
