So, what exactly is life coaching? Life (or 'personal') coaching is a solution-‐focused approach to personal development that can help to make profoundly positive and lasting changes in all areas of a person’s life. It’s uplifting, inspiring and liberating … not only for the client, but for the coach too! Simply put, life coaching is one of the most fulfilling and rewarding careers that you could possibly consider. Is life coaching a form of counselling or therapy? No. Life coaching is uniquely different from counselling, psychotherapy or social work. It doesn’t involve examining, diagnosing and/or dealing with issues or problems of the past. Life coaching focuses on the present and bringing about positive changes in a person’s current beliefs and behaviours in order to grow a more exciting, fulfilling and rewarding future. Through life coaching people become more self-‐aware and this helps them to grow and develop, often in quite amazing ways. In fact, life coaching creates a virtuous cycle of personal awareness and growth. In contrast to psychotherapy, life coaching is most effective when embraced by perfectly well and functioning individuals who simply want to get a lot more out of life and live to their true potential. Can life coaching help people to find their true purpose? Yes, indeed! In fact, the ultimate objective of life coaching (New Insights life coaching at least) is to help people find their life’s purpose.

The pace of change in our world is frenetic – and yet most people are ill equipped to deal with that change and the pace of it. New technologies and social media have stripped us of much of our spare time, making us almost permanently accessible to others and leaving little space for proper rest, relaxation and introspection. Life coaching offers a positive, constructive and caring antidote to the very specific challenges, pressures and uncertainties that people face in the twenty-‐first century. It does so by reconnecting people with who they truly are and what they are here to do, allowing them to discover real meaning, fulfilment and joy in life. As such, it is a uniquely different discipline; one that is inspiring, forward looking, uplifting – and highly effective. Can life coaching really make such a positive difference in people’s lives? It certainly can – and it does! The New Insights life coaching system includes a structured programme of coaching over 13 sessions (or six months, on average) that aims to bring about a transformation in the way that the client thinks and acts such that goals – that may have seemed difficult or impossible – suddenly become attainable. We continually receive wonderful feedback from both practice clients and paying clients who have been exposed to our coaching system. This demonstrates overwhelmingly that New Insights life coaching really works!

As a New Insights life coach you can expect to make a real and positive difference in the world … bringing freedom, confidence and growth to people from all walks of life.
Isn’t that true for life coaches in general? As you’ll read later, there’s a big difference between being a run of the mill life coach and being a high quality, professional, certified life coach. Really good life coaches will consistently deliver great results for their clients and be suitably well rewarded. New Insights, unlike many other training companies, is committed to high quality training and a certification process that delivers confident, skilled life coaches who have the very best chance of success in the industry. Will becoming a life coach help me to grow and develop too? Absolutely! In training to become a life coach you will gain a thorough understanding of the many concepts, tools and techniques that you will use to help your prospective clients grow, develop and prosper. As you go through the training you will be encouraged to apply everything you learn to your own life. As a result, you will experience profoundly positive changes in the way you think about things and the way you view and harness your own unique capabilities. Once you become a practising life coach, your personal growth will accelerate as you work with people from all walks of life, developing keen insights into what makes them tick! In fact, as a life coach, you’ll find you are continually gaining new insights and therefore growing and developing as a person. How many careers do you know that can offer that?

2. Can I Make a Career From Life Coaching?
Is Life Coaching a viable career option?
Not only is it viable, if you love working with people it is arguably one of the best career opportunities you could consider, thanks to the amazing flexibility it offers. In a survey of New Insights certified life coaches, respondents reported the following as the primary benefits:
• Being in control of their own destiny; • Having the flexibility to structure their practices
in order to achieve their perfect balance between income and lifestyle;
• Enjoying tremendous fulfilment that comes
from seeing their clients achieve amazing things and knowing that they are making a real difference in the lives of their clients;
• Ongoing personal growth and development; • Excellent financial rewards. • Real personal freedom!
Is Life Coaching a full-‐time or part-‐time career? That would depend on you and what you want to get from it. If you’re not in love with what you are currently doing; if you want more flexibility, meaning and fulfilment, along with rewards that are commensurate with your efforts, then a full-‐time career in life coaching could be just perfect for you.
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 10
If you already have a job that you enjoy but you’re looking to make a difference to others and earn an extra income coaching after hours or over weekends, or if you’re currently working in a related field and you want to broaden your offering to include life coaching, then setting up a part-‐time practice could be the way to go. Whatever works best for you! Is there sufficient demand for life coaching services? Do some research and you’ll find that life coaching is one of the fastest growing industries around, both in southern Africa and internationally. There’s a good reason for this. More and more people in today’s world are realising the significant benefits that come from hiring a life coach. Everyone wants to be more, do more and get more from life – and that’s what good life coaching can achieve for a surprisingly reasonable fee. Good life coaches will never be short of work because the value they add to their clients is generally well beyond the fees they charge. The key to having a full and expanding practice as a life coach is to achieve positive results for your clients and to do so consistently. With high quality training and a proven coaching system and approach, such as that offered by New Insights, that’s not difficult to do. Can I specialise in a market that I have experience in or feel passionate about? Definitely! At New Insights we would actually recommend this as an excellent way to assure your success. The comprehensive, broad based nature of the New Insights training would allow you to tap into a huge range of niche markets. In fact, the only limits are your imagination. Here are just a few of the niche markets you could consider:
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 11
• Teenagers and young adults who are starting out in life;
• Newlyweds embarking on life together;
• Stay-‐at-‐home mothers;
• Career minded people;
• Business executives craving a work-‐life balance;
• People facing redundancy or some other form of significant life change;
• People preparing for retirement.
As a life coach would I be able to coach international clients? Why not? The fact is there is a real need for more good life coaches, wherever you look – from Boksburg to Brighton to Brisbane! People the world over face the same issues. They all need help to get to know themselves, harness their talents, break free of the rat race and realise their aspirations, goals and dreams. Nowadays, thanks to the telephone and/or free ‘Voice Over Internet’ services like Skype, which have broken down local, national and international market barriers, life coaching has become a truly international career opportunity. And with a proven coaching system like the one New Insights provides, you can be confident that your coaching will work for anyone, anywhere. Is it true that most life coaches work for themselves? Yes. Although there are occasional employment opportunities to be had with some of the more progressive companies and some training institutes, these tend to be few and far between. The great majority of life coaches choose to start their own independent life coaching practices – and for good reason …
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 12
As small businesses go, life coaching is a seriously attractive proposition. Quite apart from the lifestyle benefits mentioned previously, it offers some excellent business benefits. Here’s what I mean:
• Start up costs are minimal;
• Overheads can be kept very low;
• There's no need to maintain flashy – and expensive – offices. You can easily work from home if you want to;
• There’s no need to employ anyone and have to be concerned with the intricacies of employment law;
• There's no need for a warehouse full of expensive stock;
• There's no need to be concerned with managing cash flow on a week-‐by-‐week basis;
• And there’s certainly no need to pretend to be someone that you are not just to keep the boss happy!
How do life coaches go about getting coaching clients? What is important for aspirant life coaches to understand is that life coaching is very different from executive coaching or business coaching where the clients, or their sponsors, are invariably organisations. Life coaches, as a general rule, work with individuals. In our experience, confirmed by research on our coaching base, private individuals choose life coaches primarily based on word-‐of-‐mouth referrals and testimonials of their ability to achieve great results for their clients. This is precisely why New Insights training puts such stress on practice coaching
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 13
and the ability to apply the skills training theory that our Programme imparts. New Insights training involves some 50 hours of practice coaching with a number of volunteer clients. As a result, the trainee can start to build up a pipeline of referrals while he or she is still in training. This helps the newly qualified coach to ‘hit the ground running’, so to speak, after certification. Marketing is of course also important as a means to get new clients. The New Insights Programme includes a wealth of invaluable information on how to plan, market and sustain a successful life coaching practice. New Insights also has an online life coach directory, which it promotes to the public in South and southern Africa. Certified life coaches who trained with New Insights are able to subscribe to this facility and promote their practices. What do life coaches charge and what can they expect to earn? Most life coaches charge by the session, with sessions generally taking between 60 and 90 minutes to run. New Insights trained coaches enjoy access to a structured programme comprising 13 sessions that are generally delivered over a period of about six months. Many choose to offer a discount to clients who contract with them for the full programme and pay for their coaching services upfront. Fees charged vary greatly from coach to coach depending on factors like:
• The coach’s level of training and coaching experience;
• The quality of the coach (as evidenced through client testimonials attesting to the results the coach has helped the clients achieve);
• The income characteristics of the coach’s target market and the nature of the niche market(s) that the coach may choose to target;
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 14
• Whether or not the coach works mostly with private individuals or with individuals sponsored by corporations.
As an indication, fees in South Africa tend to range from around R300 per session for less experienced coaches or those serving less affluent markets, to upwards of R750 per session for very experienced coaches or those serving the more affluent or corporate markets. Many coaches earn additional income from international coaching (using Skype), Journal coaching in off peak hours, group and/or corporate coaching and, in some cases, motivational speaking and other talking engagements. In South Africa with a reasonable client base and the added income potential described above, a monthly income of R35,000 is readily achievable. How competitive is the life coaching industry? The lack of regulation means that barriers to entry into the industry are quite low. On the face of it, then, the industry is quite competitive in terms of the numbers of people who can and do set up practices. However, because demand is primarily word-‐of-‐mouth driven, the market tends to be very selective. In other words, clients, understandably, are very reluctant to recommend coaches that don’t or can’t help them to achieve good results. The net effect is that poorly trained and relatively unskilled life coaches tend to enter and leave the industry relatively quickly, whereas coaches who are well trained and skilled in achieving positive results for their clients remain in high demand and can enjoy long and prosperous careers in the industry. Therefore – and I say it again:
“The training you choose will play a pivotal role in your success as a
life coach.”

3. What Does it Take to Become a Life Coach?
What qualities do I need to become a life coach? The ability to coach others to achieve amazing things comes, primarily, from possessing the following key attributes:
1. A passionate desire to work at helping others to become the best they can be. (We call it ‘having a passion for people’);
2. A strong and abiding commitment to work ethically, putting the interests of those you coach first in all your professional dealings with them;
3. Self-‐awareness. In other words, having a clear perception of who you are, your strengths, weaknesses, thoughts, beliefs, motivation, and emotions.
4. A good understanding of – and practical experience in applying – the tools and techniques required to bring about and sustain positive change in people.
The first two qualities tend to be inherent (you either have them or you don’t). However, the third and fourth qualities can be learnt and developed through exposure to a high quality life coach training programme, like the New Insights Life Coach Training and Certification Programme.
“You need to have integrity, a passion for people, an open mind and
a willingness to learn!”
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 16
What, if any, prior qualifications do I need before training to become a life coach?
You don’t need a degree in psychology to become a life coach. In fact you don’t necessarily need any degree or form of tertiary education. Life coaching is what I call a pursuit of the ‘heart’ more than the ‘head’ meaning that passion and commitment to the cause are more important than academic ability. Of course, your ability to take in new ideas and concepts and to embrace different tools, techniques and processes is important, as it is in learning anything new – but in life coaching your ‘EQ’ is more important than your ‘IQ’!
So there are no prior qualifications required.
What qualifications will I need to practice as a life coach?
In South and southern Africa, as in most other countries around the world, life coaching is an emerging profession (I use the term ‘profession’ in its broader sense) that, at present, remains unregulated. Technically, this means that anyone can start up a practice as a life coach without having any dedicated life coach training or certification. Of course, that’s the last thing we would recommend you to do. Why? To become an effective and successful life coach you need a lot more than just a passion for people and a commitment to work ethically, even though these are important attributes. You also need the self-‐awareness, knowledge, skills and experience that come from a quality life coach training programme and, ideally, you need a properly structured and effective coaching system to apply in your coaching.
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 17
Will I need to join a professional body to practice as a life coach? The short answer is no. Because life coaching is unregulated (see previous page) membership of a professional body is not a requirement to practice. However, there is more to be said here. Just as with any other profession, if you value your ongoing development as a life coach you will do well to keep abreast of developments in the industry, attend networking events and perhaps short courses from time to time. In South Africa, currently, the pre-‐eminent non-‐regulatory representative body for the coaching profession is the Coaches and Mentors Association of South Africa, or COMENSA. COMENSA has strong links with other international bodies and is committed to world-‐class standards and ethics in coaching as well as the ongoing professional development of coaches. New Insights is a proud and long-‐standing training institute member of COMENSA and in good standing. New Insights trainee life coaches and coaches are welcomed by COMENSA to join – and we encourage them to do so. What should I look for in a life coach training programme? Not all training is equal. Far from it in fact! Thanks to the low barriers to entry I mentioned above, you’ll find plenty of what I call ‘quick fix’ courses on the market …
These courses may promise to turn you into a practising life coach after nothing more than one or two months of training or, in some cases, just a few weeks or even days, perhaps with one or two simulated coaching practice sessions thrown in for good measure.
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 18
If you’re serious about becoming a really good life coach and having a thriving practice, please … don’t be tempted to go for the ‘quick fix’. Sure, you may well learn something useful, but it’s highly unlikely that, in such a short time, you’ll gain and develop the skills, knowledge, experience and, most importantly, the self-‐confidence you’ll need to coach effectively! On the other end of the scale are the more academically inclined institutes that specialise in imparting esoteric models and theories that look and sound impressive on paper but are difficult to understand and even more difficult to put into practice for your clients. The New Insights Life Coach Training and Certification Programme offers you an excellent ‘middle road’ between these extremes. We offer skills training and support that is internationally accredited, comprehensive and of a very high quality, with a focus on practical application and the delivery of great results for clients! … But more about that later ☺ Is it better to opt for broad based, or more specialised training? In the same way that any specialist physician would need to complete general medical practitioner training first, aspiring life coaches should look to complete credible broad-‐based life coach training before considering any form of specialised training. There are a host of training institutes targeting coaches with ‘flavour-‐of-‐the-‐month’ proprietary courses that are presented as being suitable preparation for a career in life coaching. In reality such courses are often too narrow or superficial to provide the overall life coaching skills needed. New Insights offers a broad based approach to training, which includes exposure to a wide array of philosophies, tools, techniques and concepts, intended to equip you, thoroughly, to become a successful practising life coach.
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 19
Our certification training provides a very solid grounding or foundation that can easily be built on, at a later stage if needed. … Again, more about this later ☺ Would I need to give up – or take time out of – my current job to become a life coach? No, not if you choose to train with New Insights. Our certification programme is specifically designed for people who already lead busy lives, such as those who are currently in employment or holding down other important responsibilities like stay-‐at-‐home mothers. With us, you train in your own time and at your own pace and it doesn’t matter where you live or work. Only when you feel ready should you start coaching for money. If you wish, you can start by coaching part-‐time until you have established your practice and feel ready to take this on as a full-‐time career. That way you maintain the flexibility to control your own destiny without taking unnecessary risks. In fact, the really great thing about our training programme is its flexibility. You are in total control of the agenda at all times.

4. Am I Really Cut Out to Be a Life Coach?
How do I know if this is the right direction to follow? Just follow your heart! Let me explain ☺ … At New Insights we believe everyone has a unique and special role to play in the evolution of the planet and the universe. I know that’s quite philosophical but it actually goes to the heart of life coaching. Life coaching starts with clients identifying short-‐term goals and then following a structured process to achieve those goals. As the coaching journey unfolds, clients usually begin to appreciate that they have a higher purpose or calling. With this realisation comes the need to work with their coaches to adapt and mould their goals to align with that higher purpose. At this point the clients’ lives begin to take on an exciting and vibrant new meaning! Outside of coaching, most people have little conscious knowledge of what their life’s purpose is. That’s hardly surprising, given how we live our lives trying to fit into agendas that are set by others; chasing our tails trying to do what others expect of us! Stress, anxiety and frustration are the order of the day in the 21st century. These negative emotions result from the disconnect between what we spend our lives doing and what we know, deep down, that we are really here to do.
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 21
However, our subconscious minds work in amazing ways, constantly trying to reconnect us with the work that best represents our calling or purpose. This leads us to experience unexpected meetings, read related articles and get presented with ‘chance’ opportunities (all subtle ‘prods’ to move us in the direction our hearts truly desire for us). Could it be that your subconscious mind helped you to ‘find’ this report, knowing that:
• Through life coaching – and helping to empower others to get more from their lives – you can fulfil part of the purpose you are here to carry out; and/or
• Through studying life coaching you will get to understand yourself and what you really want from life, a lot better; and/or
• Through life coaching, you’ll start to understand why others are the way they are and how you can build stronger more enduring relationships with those you care for?
Please think about it. Then trust your intuition … and follow your heart ☺ Ok, so who are you and why are you in this business? This report is not meant to be about me. It’s meant to be about you … but at this point I accept that you are probably wondering who I am and how I got into this industry, so let me tell you very briefly. If you’d like to know more you can go to our website. My name is Bill Burridge. I’m currently the Managing Director of two ‘sister’ Companies both dedicated to life coach training:
• New Insights Africa, based in South Africa; and
• New Insights UK, based in England. I live near Cape Town in South Africa with my wife, Jenni (who now happens to be an excellent life coach herself) and my two young adult children. My association with New Insights came about by ‘coincidence’ in 2006. Of course, I now know that that there was more than coincidence at play here!
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 22
I was working in London the UK for a major multinational company at the time. One of my close family members back in South Africa had fallen on hard times and I felt duty bound to help. Jenni suggested we should hire a life coach as a great form of support. This sounded like a good idea but, secretly, I felt embarrassed. I actually knew very little about life coaching and what life coaches did. So I started to conduct some research with the help of the Internet. To cut a long and rather intriguing story very short, I ended up meeting the ‘founding father’ of New Insights, Neil Asher, in a London restaurant. We hit it off immediately and Neil offered me some great advice on how to go about finding a suitable coach for the family member in question. But it didn’t stop there. Neil listened generously to my own story and my uneasiness about the changes I was confronting. He responded as follows:
“Bill, listen to me. You’re confronting a massive change. You’re going to be leaving the UK after six years to settle back in South Africa, meaning you’ll need to find a new home in a new area. You’re looking at leaving the company you’ve worked for for 21 years, and you’re talking about starting up your own business after 27 years in employment. Besides that, you’ll need to get your two teenage kids into new schools! Now look, if your situation doesn’t just ‘scream out’ for hiring the services of a life coach, then I don’t know what does!”
And so it was that I was introduced to New Insights Life Coaching. Neil put me in contact with a wonderful young life coach called Sharon Frith from Manchester, who coached me after work in the evenings using Skype. It took just four sessions with Sharon – and the simple yet incredibly powerful tools and techniques she was able to draw on from the New Insights life coaching system – for me to recognise the start of an amazing transformation in my own outlook.
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 23
By the time I had completed the 13-‐session programme with Sharon, my life had turned around. At that point I knew with great clarity what it was that I wanted to do after leaving corporate life … and I couldn’t wait to get on with it! I called Neil and shared my vision of introducing New Insights to the people of the ‘Rainbow Nation’. I was champing at the bit to get back to South Africa and set about getting New Insights Africa off the ground! There’s a lot more to the story, but the best way I know of summarising how I feel about New Insights Life Coaching is to borrow a phrase from the late Victor Kiam: “I liked it so much I bought the company!” How can I be sure that becoming a life coach is right for me? Perhaps, deep down, you know you are well suited to becoming a life coach. The problem is you still have to convince your ‘logical’, ‘rational’, ‘real world’ conscious mind that that’s a good idea! If so, I can help ☺ I have a couple of simple tools to help you determine if this really is something you could do … and more importantly, something you really want to do. I’ve put together two quick tests that should give you a good feel for whether:
(a) Life coaching is something you’re cut out for. (In other words, do you have the sort of qualities that are required); and
(b) A life coach is what you really want to be. Being your own boss, for example, is an aspect of becoming a life coach that might sound pretty cool. But there is also a responsibility that comes with being ’the boss’. So the question is whether you really want to take that responsibility or not.
Please take a moment to answer the following ten questions in each test as honestly as you can, with a simple “YES” or “NO”…
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 24
FIRST QUICK TEST – ARE YOU CUT OUT FOR IT? 1 Would other people you deal with describe you
as an honest, ethical, self-‐aware person? YES NO
2 Do you have a genuine interest in helping others to achieve their goals and dreams? YES NO
3 Do people find it easy to relate to -‐ and share their problems and aspirations with -‐ you? YES NO
4 Are you a ‘generous’ listener? YES NO
5 Do you find it easy to build rapport and make genuine connections with others when communicating with them?
YES NO
6 Does the thought of inspiring others to achieve amazing things excite you? YES NO
7 In trying to understand difficult situations are you inclined to try and put yourself in the shoes of others?
YES NO
8 Do you have the ability to be compassionate, yet firm with other people, ‘telling it like it is’ when you feel it’s needed to assist them?
YES NO
9 Do you personally dream about a career filled with joy, happiness and, above all, meaning? YES NO
10 Do you enjoy ’visioning’ (mentally imagining the future) both on your own and with other people? YES NO
How many of these questions did you answer “YES” to? If you answered “YES” to the first two questions and at least four or more of the remaining questions then you should give life coaching serious consideration. The higher your score the more likely it is that you’d make a great life coach ☺ (If you want to take things a step further, we’ve incorporated a more extensive test into our short introductory course, New Insights Life Coaching 101, a course that you can read more about later in this report.)
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 25
SECOND QUICK TEST – DO YOU WANT IT? 1 Do you really want to make a living from working
with people? YES NO
2 Do you really want to work for yourself? YES NO
3 Do you really want to have flexible working hours? YES NO
4 Do you really want complete control over your own destiny? YES NO
5 Do you really want to be the best you can be at what you do? YES NO
6 Do you really want to make a difference in the world? YES NO
7 Do you really want to work from home? YES NO
8 Do you really want to experience ongoing growth and development? YES NO
9 Do you really want to take responsibility for your success? YES NO
10 Do you really want to be held to account for your ethics? YES NO
Once again, how many questions did you answer “YES” to? If you’re really cut out for life coaching, I’d expect you to have answered all the questions with a “YES”, with the possible exception of the following two: Q2: There are a few opportunities to gain employment as a life coach but these
are quite limited. Most life coaches prefer to establish their own practices. Q7: It’s also not necessary for a life coach to work from home, though most do.
“Never let the words of anyone affect and stop you from
doing what you want to do.”

5. How Do I Deal With My Uncertainties?
Why is it that I feel really excited and yet a little fearful? Did you know that this is a very normal human reaction to the prospect of change? We are all programmed, to a greater or lesser extent, to resist change. The reason is quite complex but it has to do with inbuilt survival instincts that date back to prehistoric times. Unfortunately, in the modern day, change no longer represents a threat to our survival. In fact it is, more often than not, vital for our growth and development. That’s why in life coaching we help clients to understand the value that lies in embracing – rather than resisting – change. The first step is to recognise how you typically go about resisting change. Here are a few stereotypes. Perhaps you can relate to one or more of them? The perpetual information gatherer
Deep down you really want change and to lead a more fulfilling life. You’re searching for something that will bring that about and you’ll send for every information report, eBook and free introductory offer on the market … but you seem incapable of moving beyond the information gathering stage and into action.
The procrastinator
You come across an opportunity that you instinctively know is right for you, but you keep putting off taking action, citing all manner of reasons why
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 27
‘right now is just not a good time’. You may be inclined to justify your procrastination by arguing that ‘something better could come along’.
The interrogator
You cannot see a genuine opportunity for what it is until you have thoroughly interrogated – or brought to the surface – all of your ‘worst fears’. You question everything:
“This sounds interesting but what about this...? What about that...? What if this happens...? What if that happens...? What if I don’t…? What if I can’t…?”
The congenital sceptic
Although you’re on the lookout for a great new opportunity, you have a habit of dismissing each one that comes along as some form of scam or hype, even before you have properly researched it or checked it out.
OK, but I still have some genuine concerns about taking the next step. How can I deal with them? You need to ‘lay them on the table’ and then try to see them for what they are! If, like so many others, you experience a hidden ‘block’ that prevents you from moving forwards, even though you intuitively know you want to, you can be pretty certain that this is due to some underlying fear or ingrained misconception (in life coaching we use the term ‘limiting belief’). Here are a few fears that people express to justify their inability to take the action that, deep down, they know they want and need. In case you can personally relate to any of these, I’ve included some ‘food for thought’ comments that may help you see these fears or misconceptions for what they really are: “I can’t afford it.”
The truth is, if you want it badly enough, you can! Perhaps not right now, but you can find a way. You can and will afford anything that is important enough to you.

Always remember that any money you spend on training is an investment in yourself – there is no better investment – and then tell your subconscious mind to find a way to make it happen!
“I’m not sure that I have it in me to make a success of it.”
If you possess the core attributes required and it’s something you really want to do then you already have the fundamentals to make a great success of life coaching! Face up to it; all you really lack right now is the necessary knowledge, skills and experience. Trust the training programme to provide you with this. Training to become a life coach involves huge personal growth and development. On the journey, you’ll get to know yourself and your true capabilities like never before ☺
“My own life is far from perfect. Perhaps I’m not yet ready to help others.”
Do you really think life coaches have perfect lives? Far from it! Your role as a life coach is not to showcase the ‘perfect life’ to your clients. Your role is to help your clients uncover their own true potential and lead more fulfilling lives. That’s a very different thing You see it’s all about them, not about you!
“I’m not sure that I have it in me to study again.”
To be honest, any effort you make to improve your own capabilities will require learning and practising something new. But look, you’re not about to tackle quantum physics here ☺ You’ll be studying human behaviour and motivation and then practising the art of helping others to achieve their goals.
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 29
You’ll be supported by a tried and trusted approach and system that’s really eye opening and actually a lot of fun. Of course you can do it!
“There are probably too many life coaches in my area already.”
Mmm … Just how many is too many? And in any case, why do you see that as a bad thing? It could be seen as proof that the area in which you live is really conducive to life coaching? Oh, and by the way, who said you have to restrict your coaching to your local area? Remember what I told you about Skype/telephone coaching?
“I think I might have trouble standing out from the rest.”
Why allow yourself to believe that? If you are really well trained, know how to achieve great results for your clients and carefully choose a target market where you can apply all the hints, tips, tools and techniques that you learn in the training, you’ll stand head and shoulders above the rest! We will show you how ☺
“I might struggle to attract enough clients to stay in business.”
This is a classic limiting belief. Look, nothing is totally certain in life (apart from death and taxes, as we all know!) However, the things that are most certain to happen are those that you really want to happen and that you put total commitment and dedication into making happen. So it’s up to you. Of course, your self-‐confidence will count for a lot in getting clients, that’s why New Insights training and practice coaching is specially formulated to skyrocket your self-‐confidence and build your client pipeline!
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 30
Here’s my recommendation. Put faith in your training and your coaching system. Believe in yourself and keep a positive and imaginative outlook ... … Clients will beat a path to your door!
“I don’t think people in my area understand life coaching!”
How do you know? Have you asked all of them? There may well be some that don’t and if you judge them to be important to your success, then find a way to educate them or change the way they think. You only need one or two clients to experience what life coaching can really do for them … and the word will spread very quickly. Oh, and by the way, as I said before, what stops you from seeking clients outside of the area where you live? Telephone and Skype coaching are amazingly effective!
“This just seems like it might be too much of a risk.”
What exactly is the risk you believe you face? Get really clear on this … then find ways to minimise it … then focus on the opportunity! If you’re worried about changing careers, wait until you’re making good part-‐time money from life coaching before you consider jumping ship. If you’re worried about investing money in a course you won’t complete, you need to question your own commitment, then come up with a plan that you can follow to ensure you do complete it. We can help you with that.
“I think I may be too old.”
Frankly, that’s very unlikely (unless your age is a genuine physical impediment that you can’t resolve).
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 31
Have you ever considered that your age may actually be an advantage in terms of the life experience you have to call upon? Be sure to choose your niche carefully so you can exploit your specific experience. For example, you could consider coaching retired people – that’s a very attractive and lucrative market!
“I think I may be too young.”
Perhaps … but only if you’re still a teenager. If you’re at least a mature young adult, you should find plenty of other young adults and teenagers who would appreciate – and benefit from – your services. Contact me if you’re not sure.
“I have my own issues that need to be dealt with before I can coach others.”
To become a life coach you first have to study, embrace and practise the tools techniques and concepts that life coaches employ to help others be the best they can be. Being exposed to that process cannot help but affect you … in a very positive way! The growth in personal awareness, confidence and inspiration that you will experience will easily extinguish any lingering doubts and concerns that you may have, right now, about your own abilities. My advice? Trust the training programme! The training will really work for you … … if you just let it!

6. What is New Insights, Why are You Different?
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 33
Hopefully, what you’ve read so far resonates with you … and you’re feeling some real excitement about the opportunity that a career in life coaching could hold for you. If so, you’re probably wondering about New Insights and what makes us different. Let me answer your questions …
What does New Insights do? Our mission is to be a commercially successful force for good, by training, empowering and supporting an international network of life coaches who feel inspired to bring personal freedom, confidence and growth to people from all walks of life, through their coaching. On what main principles is New Insights founded? Life coaching, to be authentic, has to be based on complete trust, integrity, respect and fair exchange between coach and client. Those are the same principles that we embrace at New Insights and that we aim to uphold in the relationships that we build with our ‘customers’ – in other words our students (introductory course), trainee coaches (certification programme) and certified coaches. What makes New Insights different from other coaching institutes? We like to think we’re different in many ways but there are five main things that distinguish us:
(1) New Insights is totally dedicated to life coach training. We don’t offer a range of training courses in various subjects or even in other coaching disciplines. We are life coach trainers, pure and simple. That’s what really matters to us and that’s what we like to think we do really well. Oh, and we’ve been doing it successfully now for more than 10 years!
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 34
By registering/enrolling with New Insights you can rest assured that your training is provided by a company whose sole focus is in the field in which you have chosen to train.
(2) Our training is built, not around our needs, but around the needs
of those that train with us.
Our programmes are completely home or self-‐study based to give students and trainees the convenience and flexibility to work in their own time and at their own pace without having to travel anywhere.
We don’t have ‘intakes’. You simply start whenever it suits you! Register today, receive your programme materials in a few days time and start straight away if you wish … or whenever the time is right for you. We’ll offer suggestions as to how to plan for completing your certification, depending on whether you’re a ‘hare’ or a ‘tortoise’ – but at the end of the day, how and when you study and practice is entirely up to you. Everything you require is either sent to you up front or (as in the case of the exam) emailed to you when you feel ready for it. With New Insights training you’re in complete control.
(3) We’re passionate about providing timely and meaningful support.
We have a saying that goes “Your Success is Our Success and Our Success is Your Success”. We know that our credibility goes hand in hand with the credibility of the coaches we turn out, so maintaining high quality training and support is of critical importance to our business. Giving great support to our students and trainees is part and parcel of the New Insights ethos. We aim to be friendly, helpful and responsive, whether that is via telephone, email or through our online facilities such as our Forum, Journal, Blog and Facebook site.
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 35
Whether you live in Johannesburg or Kuruman, Cape Town or Cradock, Durban or Uitenhage, Windhoek or Gaborone, you’ll get the same great product and service from New Insights.
(4) We operate internationally
New Insights operates from both South Africa and the UK and – thanks to the home study nature of our programme – we service trainees in many locations around the world. New Insights certified coaches operate successfully in many corners of the globe. The principles we impart – and the system we provide – are relevant and applicable no matter where in the world you choose to live and work.
(5) We focus on delivering great value for money
We deal predominantly with individual consumers, not large companies. So we really get how important it is to provide real convenience and value for money. We make full use of technology to minimise our overheads and maximise our reach, without ever taking the focus off of our students and trainees. At New Insights you won’t find lavish branch offices, underused training rooms, and costly administrative staff to handle paperwork. As a result, our certification programme and introductory course are very competitively priced, representing really great value for your investment.
What training does New Insights offer? We offer two courses, both home study based:
• A full certification programme in life coaching called the New Insights Life Coach Training and Certification Programme.
• An Introductory course in life coaching called New Insights Life Coaching 101.
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 36
What’s the difference between a home study based course like yours, and an online course? When you register with New Insights, you’ll get all of your course material, physically delivered to you, right upfront, so you have immediate, permanent and ready access to everything you need. We supply you with extensive printed material for the skills training, business support and coaching system elements of the certification programme and it is yours to keep, as a handy reference, throughout your training and beyond. This means you won’t have to worry about getting involved in time consuming downloads from the Internet and lots of costly printing of training materials. On what philosophy is New Insights training based? As far as the overall training is concerned we have intentionally chosen to present a broad based programme, as we believe this provides a more well-‐rounded experience and offers the best foundation for a successful career in life coaching. As far as the content is concerned it is not restricted to any one philosophy. We include material that originates from a wide range of leaders and thinkers in the field of human motivation, regardless of their individual philosophies, ethnic groups or religions. The New Insights course is designed to be inclusive and respectful. In other words, it is suitable for people from diverse backgrounds and persuasions. We promote an open-‐minded approach to learning and, although, from time to time, we offer our views on certain aspects of the training, we do not advocate or seek to impose any one specific philosophy, doctrine or religious perspective.

Does New Insights training incorporate NLP? With life coaching becoming increasingly popular, many niche approaches to training have sprung up, often with exaggerated claims about their effectiveness. Some institutes base their life coach training exclusively on NLP – or ‘neuro linguistic programming’. At New Insights we believe NLP has much to offer, particularly when it comes to the art and science of communication. For that reason, many aspects of NLP are incorporated into the New Insights Life Coach Training and Certification Programme, notably the module that deals with communication. That said, NLP remains just one of many techniques and philosophies that we present in a programme that is both broad based and thoroughly comprehensive. Is New Insights training internationally recognised? In most countries, including South Africa and the UK, life coaching is an unregulated profession. So there is no formal ‘international recognition’ that applies. Nonetheless, New Insights has been awarded international accreditation for its Life Coach Training and Certification Programme by the wholly independent CPD Standards Office. The New Insights life coaching system is universally applicable and is used successfully by coaches all over the world.

What does the Programme consist of? Our founder’s aim was simple … … to design and build the best, most effective, integrated life coach training and preparation programme in a format that would make it both readily accessible and affordable to the average person. The result was the New Insights Life Coach Training and Certification Programme. The Programme consists of six important components:
1. Comprehensive skills training material delivered to you upfront so you can study in your own time and at your own pace.
2. A complete, ready-‐to-‐use, 13-‐session life coaching system with all the
coaching and client session notes you will need to administer it. 3. Extensive practical experience in the form of at least 50 hours of hands-‐
on, real world practice coaching, using the system above.
4. A code of ethics that underpins the
application of the coaching system. 5. Comprehensive support to establish,
market and sustain a successful life coaching practice.
6. Responsive and caring support
throughout the certification period and beyond.
What is the aim of this Programme? Quite simply, to fully equip and prepare you to become a high quality, successful, practising life coach!
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 41
How does the Programme achieve its aim? The requirements for certification ensure you achieve a number of key objectives during the training:
• Develop a high level of self awareness; • Develop a sound and comprehensive understanding of the knowledge
and skills required to become a good life coach; • Gain exposure to at least 50 hours of real world (non classroom based)
practice coaching experience; • Develop confidence in – and mastery of the application of – the New
Insights life coaching system; • Understand what is required to establish and sustain a successful life
coaching practice.
Do I need any qualifications or other requirements to enrol for this Programme?
No. There are no prerequisites for this course. If you feel in any way uncertain about whether a career in life coaching is right for you, or you first want to get a basic grounding in life coaching before considering the certification programme, we recommend you consider our introductory course, New Insights life coaching 101. That said, it is not a prerequisite for enrolling on the certification training programme. What topics are covered in the skills training? The Skills Training theory alone covers extensive ground. It is presented in eighty sections, divided into seven manuals, modules or Parts. Each Part focuses one or more key themes that are central to life coaching. The themes are briefly summarised below:

When you enrol with us as a trainee life coach you can choose between one of two course options, CLASSIC and PRO. We also have two higher coaching levels – ELITE and VIP – that you can aspire to after you gain certification. What’s the difference between the CLASSIC and PRO options? Both options both include access to the identical course material and New Insights support. The two options are explained below. For a more detailed table summarising and comparing what’s included in both CLASSIC and PRO options please visit our website at this URL:
http://www.life-‐coach-‐training-‐sa.com/course-‐options.html The CLASSIC option
The CLASSIC course option is very popular due to its integrity, affordability and sheer value for money. It has been designed to equip you to be a successful practising life coach and will lead to a handsome Certificate of Completion detailing all of your achievements. The CLASSIC Option will suit you perfectly if either or both of the following apply: (a) You aim to become a great life coach and ...
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 45
• You want a quality, comprehensive, tried and trusted life coach certification programme that really works!
• You want maximum affordability.
• You want the flexibility to build on to your qualification in future should you decide, at any stage, to take your coach training – and coaching – to the next level.
• You are quite comfortable using the excellent email, telephone and online support that New Insights offers, in the knowledge that it has served hundreds of other trainees perfectly well.
OR ...
(b) You are contemplating this course primarily for your own personal
development. The PRO option
The PRO option will add another dimension to your training experience. It includes access to up to 20 hours of the services of a top New Insights supervisor coach. Your coach will coach you to achieve your goal of certification using the 13-‐session New Insights coaching system so you’ll get to experience what it is like to be a ‘client’ while you are training to become a coach. ☺ In addition, you will be required to submit video or audio recordings of two of your practice coaching sessions to our competency assessment centre for evaluation. If successful you will receive a detailed Certificate of Competency. The PRO Option will suit you perfectly if any or all of the following apply: You aim to become the very best life coach you can be and ...
• You want to enhance your training experience through exposure to the personal supervision of a top New Insights certified VIP coach;
• You want to experience what it is like to be coached through the entire New Insights programme;
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 46
• You attach substantial importance to having your coaching ability and style criticised and reviewed by another coach – rather than just your practice clients;
• You place value on having Certificate of Competency rather than Certificate of Completion displayed on your certificate;
• You want to benefit from a great package deal. Can I start with the CLASSIC option and upgrade to PRO later? Yes. You can upgrade at any time during the certification period or even after certification, although it will cost slightly more to do it this way. How long does the Programme take to complete? Because this is a self-‐paced Programme a lot will depend on you and the number of hours you can allocate to it each week. Remember that you set your own agenda. In our experience, having worked with both ‘hares’ and ‘tortoises’, you can generally expect to take somewhere between nine and fifteen months to complete certification, including study of the theory, practice coaching and assessment requirements. As the PRO option includes being coached it is wise to allow a little extra time in your planning. We set a generous cap of a full two years for you to complete the requirements, so you have plenty of time on hand. When does the Programme start? We don’t have ‘intakes’ like most other institutes. With New Insights you can register/enrol and start whenever it suits you. Your course material will be delivered by courier, to your door, normally within a week of you registering.

How does New Insights assess its trainees? As a trainee you would, for certification purposes, be required to:
• Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the skills training theory (which is reviewed through self-‐test assignments and an exam).
• Sign the New Insights code of ethics declaration committing you to abide by sound ethical practices in your coaching.
• Undertake at least 50 hours of direct one-‐on practice coaching, using the New Insights life coaching system. Your progress is assessed through the feedback forms that you are required to submit from your practice clients.
• If you choose the PRO course option, you will need to submit proof of completing the 13-‐session New Insights coaching programme your appointed supervisor coach.
• In addition, as a PRO trainee, you will be required to submit recordings of two full practice coaching sessions to New Insights for coaching competency assessment purposes.
What kind of certificate does New Insights issue? On successful completion of the CLASSIC option you will receive a professional Certificate of Completion and will qualify to use the designation New Insights Certified Life Coach and the blue coach identifier. On successful completion of the PRO Option you will receive a professional Certificate of Competency and will qualify to use the designation New Insights Certified PRO Life Coach and the red coach identifier. Your certificate will detail all of your major accomplishments on the training journey and will be sent to you via registered mail. After certification you will be entitled to use relevant certified coach identifier on your emails, website and other marketing material.

What is the New Insights Life Coach Training System™ that’s been referred to in this report? When you enrol with New Insights you get immediate access to a proven, structured, 13-‐session coaching programme, complete with all the coaching and client session notes, that you can use to form the basis of your coaching. This well-‐researched programme, unique to New Insights, is specially designed to help you take your clients from where they are to where they really want to be in their lives. We recommend running sessions every two weeks. In that way the 13-‐session programme will take six months to complete with your clients. That’s enough time to bring about a significant transformation in their lives ☺ Let’s take a very brief look at what the system includes: The coaching programme starts with an in depth look at the client’s life and key areas in which he or she wants to effect change. You’ll help your client to create inspiring goals using the Life Wheel and our unique and proven ‘SMERTIE’ goal-‐creating approach. You client is then taken through a simple yet powerful process that encourages him or her to focus on breaking the goal down into small steps – ‘mini’ goals or milestones. This exercise rapidly boosts your client’s confidence in his or her own ability to achieve the goals. The next step is to help your client ‘uncover’ those beliefs that are not serving him or her and start the process of replacing those limiting beliefs with wonderful, new empowering beliefs. Dealing with your client’s personal value system and bringing about alignment with the goal that your client wants to achieve, is what the next session is about. In the following session you will help your client uncover the rules he or she has set for experiencing the values they are attracted to. Then you will explain how your client can adapt his or her rules to become more compatible with the lives they desire.
© New Insights Life Coach Training. All Rights Reserved Page 49
We then introduce the concept of The Six Human Needs. In this session we demonstrate why it’s important to ensure that your client’s more basic needs are in balance before he or she can focus on the higher needs of ‘growth’ and ‘contribution’. No coaching system would be complete without a session on the importance of communication and the concepts of projection, filtering and interpretation on the client’s ability to relate to others in the most effective way possible. Next comes personal responsibility and how by moving away from justifying and blaming behaviour, in favour of taking full personal responsibility, your client can feel liberated and empowered. In the next session you will impart to your client a technique for applying a clear and balanced mind to dealing with issues that may, in the past, have hurt him or her badly.
At the more advanced stage of the coaching programme, its time to take your client back to what he or she has achieved and to help your client look forward to what he or she truly wants from life in the future. If and when your client is ready you then assist him or her to get in touch with their “Life’s Purpose”, critical for leading a happy and fulfilling life. The coaching programme ends with a wonderful celebration session where you celebrate your client’s achievements, personal growth and development.
“This is a simple, yet beautifully conceived coaching system
that constitutes a powerful six month programme
for personal transformation”

8. Is the New Insights Life Coaching 101 course
right for me? What is the aim of this course? New Insights Life Coaching 101 is a short but effective home study course for those who want to gain a good grounding in life coaching as a step towards deciding whether to invest in professional certification training. The objectives of this course are to:
