Dear Parents,
This edition of the Tiger’s Mouth contains a
wrap up of the last quarter of the 2014-15
school year. It is one of significant pro-
gress and achievement for the school and
its students. While I feel we have been ex-
tremely successful in many areas there is
always room for improvement. New pro-
grams are being introduced into the school
for this year and will strongly emphasize
writing skills, higher level thinking skill as
well as science, technology, engineering
and math.
Our adaptive technology, in math and vo-
cabulary, has proven to be very successful
in raising the level of performance of our
students in those subjects. We will contin-
ue to explore other avenues to learning to
better engage and motivate our students
in all subject areas.
Recently a number of our families were se-
riously impacted by the recent flooding in
Harris County and surrounding are-
as. They were all affected in varying de-
grees but all required the assistance of the
members of the SVdP community. I was
touched by the response! We have long
been known for the strong community
spirit and ties that are formed here for our
families. But that spirit was put into action
and it was a truly wonderful thing to see.
Thank you for all you did to assist those at
a most difficult time.
Yours in Christ,
Carolyn Sears M.Ed.

From the PTO President “For just as each of us has one body with
many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ
we, though many, form one body, and
each member belongs to all the others.”
Romans 12:4-5
St. Vincent de Paul is just that, one body with many members. All PTO events are
either fundraisers or community builders so that we can come together and educate, reward, or celebrate this one body of which
we have chosen to be a part.
I would like to thank the PTO Directors who
have already started planning their events and services, and the many others who are sharing their time and talents in supportive
roles. It takes countless volunteers and
boundless dedication to get it all done.
In addition to the 36 PTO board directors,
we need the support of every family to continue to build on the successes of our
school. Please contact me if you have ques-tions or want to get involved in PTO, 713-320-1077 or [email protected]. To-
gether, we can do our part to support this fantastic school and its goal of developing
students to their fullest potential in an en-
vironment permeated with Gospel values.
Yours Truly-
Kelly Hogan

As we start a new school year,
the School Board would like to
thank Marnie Clark, Elaine Fitz-
gibbon, Michael McConn, Glenn
Standish, Rachel Steely, and
Ray Vale on for their selfless
service over the past years to
SVdP.
Marnie Clark has served us with
her hard work on the Advance-
ment and Communication com-
mittees. Her positive energy,
dedication to our school and
parish and her enthusiastic spir-
it will be missed. It will also be
hard to replace Elaine Fitzgib-
bon whose organizational skills,
positive attitude and incredible
support of the school is conta-
gious. Elaine has stepped into
various roles including chairing
the Student Affairs and Facilities
committees and serving as Sec-
retary on the Executive Com-
mittee during her tenure. The
School Board also wishes to ex-
press its appreciation to Michael
McConn who devoted many
hours to help improve our
school’s Extracurricular Com-
mittee. Michael’s good counsel
and business savvy will be
missed at School Board meet-
ings. The School Board would
like to thank Rachel Steely for
chairing the Extracurricular
Committee this year and serv-

The School Board wishes to ex-
press its gratitude for Ray Vale.
Ray chaired the Strategic Plan-
ning Committee and served one
year as the Vice-President. And
finally, the School Board would
like to thank Glenn Standish
who worked tirelessly in the
School Board for 8 years.
Glenn served as President for
over 3 years and helped revamp
the Finance cCmmittee. He put
4 children through SVdP and
was here for 19 years. He will
be greatly missed.
While we say farewell to those
rolling off the School Board, we
welcome our newest members:
Dan Berggren, Heather Montoya
and Ray Simpson – and the
School Board looks forward to
working with them in the years
ahead. We would also like to
take the opportunity to say
thank you to everyone who ex-
pressed an interest in serving
on the School Board and partici-
pated in the discernment pro-
cess in April.
Our key focus for this coming
school year will be in furthering
SVdP’s strategic plan, which can
be found on Edline under Con-
tents -> School Board folder. If
you have an interest in serving
on a School Board committee
this year, please reach out to
any member of the 2015-2016
