STATE 4-H ROUNDUP RESULTS

Twenty-One Hale County 4-Hers competed at State 4-H Roundup at Texas A&M University in College Station June 7-11. All of these 4-Hers earned the trip to state by either placing first, second or third on the District level in their respective contests. Hale County had a great week! On Thursday evening at the final Assembly the Houston Livestock and Rodeo Scholarships were announced Logan Mustian, Heather Bozeman and Shalin Lawson were all recognized to receive $18,000 scholarships. The week started off with the Indoor Rifle Match. Hale County had two teams participate. Team 1: Elizabeth Eliesen, Logan Mustian and Ty Bain. Team 2: Ben Bozeman, Emily Russell, Heather Bozeman and Layne Mustian. The team was coached by David Hooper, Joe Mustian and Heath Bozeman. Heather Bozeman, Abbey Maresca, Colti Wright and Layne Mustian competed in the Nutrition Quiz Bowl Contest. The team placed 2nd overall. They were coached by Deana Sageser. Sarah Berry competed in the Food Show contest and placed 3rd in the Fruit and Vegetable Catego-ry. Colti Wright competed in the Food Show in the Grains Category. Ab-bey Maresca competed in the Fashion Storyboard Wearable category and received 4th place and Heather Bozeman received 15th place. Sterling Skinner competed in Fashion Show Construction Everyday Living Catego-ry and received 1st place and 3rd place in the Natural Fiber - Wool/Mohair/Alpaca category. Shalin Lawson, Logan Mustian, Sarah Berry and Alonso Molinar competed in the Senior Swine Quiz Bowl Invitational Contest. The team

placed 2nd overall. The team was coached by Deana Sageser. Heather Bo-zeman, Ben Bozeman, Colti Wright and Ty Bain competed in the Horse Judging Contest. The team placed 10th overall, 6th halter, 10th Performance, and 12th reasons. Heather Bozeman placed 1st high point individual in Halter and 10th place high point individual overall. The team was coached by Kelley Bozeman. Hagen Offield, Reece Hastey Miranda Hastey and Zach McDonough competed in the Beef Quiz Bowl Contest. They were coached by Dianne DeVos. Zach McDonough, Miranda Hastey, Logan Mustian, and Layne Mustian competed in the Meats Identification Contest. The team placed 5th overall. Logan placed 10th high point individual. The team was coached by Jessica Finck. Sterling Skinner, Trace McBride and Hagen Offield competed in the Livestock Judging contest. Cash Horton and Jake Dawson competed in the

Invitational Livestock Judging Contest. Cash received 2nd place high point individual overall and Jake Dawson 7th high point individual overall. Logan Pritchett coached the teams. Sterling Skinner competed in the Invitational Swine Skill-a-Thon contest. Sarah Berry, Rebekah Ortiz, Logan Mustian, Layne Mustian, Abbey Maresca, Miranda Hastey, Shalin Lawson and Colti Wright competed in the Share-the-Fun Celebrate 4-H “Go Green!” the team placed 7th. The team were coached by Lisa Wright and Dawn Mustian. District officer elections were also held at State Roundup. This year’s District Council officers from Hale County are: Ster-ling Skinner - 1st Vice President, Abbey Maresca - 2nd Vice Presi-dent and Layne Mustian - Public Relations. Sterling Skinner was selected to participate in National Congress in November. The Adult Leaders accompanying the 4-Hers to College Station were: Kelley Bozeman, Misty Johnson, Stacy Bain, Nicole Russell, Mi-chael Dawson, Logan Pritchett, Shelly Berry, Stacy Offield, Hope Hastey, Lisa Wright, Lucio & Irene Molinar, Shelli Lawson, Joe & Dawn Mustian, and County Extension Agents - Deana Sageser and Cassidy Peek. Congratulations to all Hale County 4-Hers that participat-ed at State 4-H Round-Up, and thanks to all of the coaches and adult leaders that helped.

4-H Awards & Jackets

All 4-H team coaches are reminded that it is your responsibility to turn in your teams results from the District II Sanctioned 4-H contests. Parents, please make sure that if your child competes as an individual in a contest, that you turn in the results to the Extension Office. The results determine which 4-Hers receive their jackets and patches at the 4-H Achievement Banquet.

Jacket Fund Donors Needed!

With the Achievement Banquet rapidly approaching, it’s time to build up the Jacket Fund. 4-H Jackets are awarded to those 4-H’ers who won first place at a District or State contest. If you would like to contribute, send your donation to Beverly Wall, 720 FM 400, Plainview, TX 79072 or contact her at home, 293-1037 or on her mobile-774-1040. Checks need to be made payable to: 4-H Award Jacket Account. Making a dona-tion will add your name to the prestigious donor list! ALL DONATIONS MUST BE MADE BY JULY 16th so that your name will be included in the program.

Gardening & Horticulture Project Mid Plains Farmers Market will be selling fresh grown vegetables and flowers this summer at the Gebo’s parking lot. Nutrition Quiz Bowl The Nutrition Quiz Bowl is seeking members for the 2016 Contest.  The contest is open to all age groups ‐ ‐ Juniors, Inter‐mediates and Seniors.   You will increase your knowledge of basic nutrition, fitness, healthy lifestyles, food preparation, consumer information and food and kitchen safety.  If you are interested in participating contact Deana to get your name on the list 806/291‐5270. Practices will begin in September.

Fall Fair Entries It is once again Fair Time! Each show has different deadlines and a very different set of rules. Thus we are asking all families to complete entry forms by August 7th by NOON. Entries can-not be taken over the phone because signatures are required and we will need the entry fees as well. You can come by the Hale County office to register for Fall Fairs after July 13th.

2016 4-H Trashion Show Sterling Skinner is looking for a team of Intermediate or Senior 4‐Hers interested in par cipa ng in the 4‐H Trashion Show. The following objec ves are taught in the Clothing and Tex les project: knowledge of fibers and fabrics, wardrobe selec‐

on, clothing construc on, comparison shopping, fashion interpreta on, understanding of style, good grooming, poise in front of others, and personal presenta on skills. 4‐H members par cipa ng in the Trashion Show contest are encouraged to use their design and construc on skills in the development of their Trashion Show entry. PURPOSE  The Trashion Show provides an opportunity for 4‐H members to use their design skills to create and exhibit a recycled/reused garment created from items that would otherwise be thrown in the trash. It also recognizes 4‐H members who do outstanding work in a clothing project. TRASHION SHOW  4‐H teams will submit a video applica on. All videos must be submi ed by uploading to YouTube. A team of judges will evaluate the entries, and the top 10 entries will be asked to compete in the Trashion Show Invita onal event. The teams chosen will go through an interview process and model their garment in the Fashion Show at Texas 4‐H Roundup. This will be a Tuesday contest at State 4‐H Roundup. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS  The contest is open to any Intermediate or Senior‐level 4‐H member who has a desire to turn trash into fashion, to create fun wearable garments from discarded material, and to recycle and repurpose “junk” into fabulous and fantas c fashion. Entrants are encouraged to let their imagina ons go, be wildly inven ve, and to “think outside of the recycle bin.” If you would like to par cipate in this contest please call the Hale County Extension office. Red, White & Moo Celebration Benefitting Snack Pak 4 kids

Friday, July 3, 2015 The Dairy Women Association is sponsoring the Red, White & Moo event at the Courthouse Square. 4-Hers and adults are needed to help with the 3 dry bouncy activ-ities. Free milk, cheese and ice cream will be given. Everyone is encouraged to bring pop tarts to benefit Snack Pak 4 Kids. The Plainview Symphony will be playing on the square. Event times are as follows: (If you ride in the parade please sign up for Shift 2) 5:00 P.M. - Red, White and Moo Parade (If you ride on the float you will be dropped off at the Courthouse Square) Shift 1: 5:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M. (Need 3 adults and 5 4-Hers) Shift 2: 6:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. (Need 3 adults and 5 4-Hers) Please call the Extension Office at 291-5270 to sign-up. Contact Beverly Wall for further information at 774-1040. If you are a volunteer and would like a Red, White and Moo shirt they will be given out to volunteers on a “first come, first served” basis. Snack Pak 4 Kids is an organization that has a mis-sion to end weekend hunger for children living in our communities. Plainview has over 400 kids to feed in our elementary schools. These kids will be receiv-ing a bag of food each week to feed them over the weekend. There are many ways to help, but one way Hale County 4-H can be involved is for members to donate a box of Pop Tarts at the Red, White and Moo Celebration or donations can be brought to the Hale County Extension of-fice during the summer months. Hale County 4-H

Dear 4-Hers and Parents: Hale County would like to reward members for hard work throughout the 2014-15 season. En-closed is a requirement list to receive the two rewards. The 1st reward is an exciting End of the Year Trip decided by Hale County 4-H council. This trip will be well worth a little hard work. This trip is for all ages that meet the simple requirements. The trip will be completely funded by Hale County. In order to receive this fun field trip, service forms must by filled out and turned in to your club or the Hale County Extension office by July 1st. This trip is to encourage every-one to come to the meetings and be active in your club. The 2nd reward is a check to reward members for hard work throughout the 2014-15 season who have participated in County and District Contests. As most of you know going to District contests can get expensive so Hale County would like to Thank all of those who have been active through the Hale County fashion show, food show, share the fun, round-up, entomology, quiz bowl, shooting sports, and so many other fun rewarding activities. Therefore, if you turn in your required form by July 1st, you will receive a check for the amount of District contests you paid out through-out the year at the Awards Banquet 2015. This is to encourage everyone to sign up for all those fun events and know it will be rewarded at the end.
