Matadi Access Specification

NOTE 1 : Matadi berths 1 & 2 are closed. NOTE 2 *: Matadi berth 3 has been reoopened but not yet opening for vessels' berthing NOTE 3 : Matadi 5,6,7 theorically allocated to PC vessels but due to current lasting congestion, these berths are dedicated to all vessels calling Matadi. NOTE 4 : Berth 9 : Now used for general cargo vessels. NOTE 5 : The main Congolese mill named MIDEMA has its own pontoon where are set up its sucker’s installations whereas the 2nd mill named MINOCONGO can discharge its wheat in bulk at all the berths with its own suckers materials.

Up to now, the official authorized draught remains at 24’’00 high water but chief pilot recommends 23'00" for vessels with LOA of more than 185m and 21’08” high tide/fresh water for vessels of more than 190m. To be also noted that the pilotage of vessels of more than 184 is made with payment of 400 usd (200/inward and 200/outward) to the pilots. All berths are available for containers if necessary / ISPS : Level 1 / Weather : Heavy thunderstorms and torrential rains fall during rainy season : Mid-October to Mid-May / State owned stevedoring.

Boma Access Specification

Boma port is located on portside of Congo river. The river can be entered directly from the sea in deep water. Transit time from Banana to Boma is approximately four hours depending on river current and ship's speed. Boma port is located on portside of Congo river. Boma Port facilities

Discharging / Loading of TCS are performed by ship's gear as there is no gantry crane at pier. Cranes are operated by state stevedoring company and are restricted to 3 T maximum.

Specific informationLone commercial wharf of 75 m designed for one vessel calling at a time. The vessel up to 140 m LOA may be accomodated provided pilot grants approval ( basis case to case ).Possession of bowthruster is compulsory for any vessel calling Banana commercial wharf.

Water density : Banana Cial Wharf and Banana River : Low tide : 1.010 - High tide : 1.025 / Muanda Terminal : 1.012 on the surface (2m) due to Congo river current - 1.025 below the surface.

ISPS : Level 1 / Weather : Rainy season from Oct 15 to May 15. During rainfall, all harbour activity ceases.
