However, the public didn’t care and they flooded in to welcome this great new store from the world’s second largest home furnishing retailer. This is the 24th store that the company has opened in Spain (the second in the Canaries, complementing the store in La Laguna) and it has provided 50 direct jobs, of which 20 have come from San Miguel where it is based. The new premises have a sales area of some 4,000 square metres, which makes it the largest home fur- nishing store in the south of Tenerife. General Manager for Portugal and Spain, Manuel Estévez Estévez, spoke of theiR pleas- ure at the opening of the new store adding, “Today, the Span- ish market is one of the key sections of the expansion strat- egy for Conforama, which con- tinues to invest in important areas for home furnishings such as the Canary Islands”. The Chafiras store has incor- porated Conforama’s new con- cept of four universal princi- pals; day, night, kitchens and decoration, “This new, more modern, concept underlines the most attractive elements of decoration, without forget- ting the quality and function- ality of our products, and con- tinues our policy of discounts, affordable prices and immedi- ate availability of over 90 per cent of our merchandise,” added Manuel. A great honour at the inaugura- tion was the presence of Bruno Steinhoff, founder of the par- ent company, who promised German quality and efficiency in the Las Chafiras store. Ricardo Fernández de la Puente Armas, the Canarian Deputy Minister for Tourism was also present, along with representatives of the Island and local councils, includ- ing the mayor of San Miguel Valentín González Évora. All were delighted that the com- pany still continues to invest despite the crisis, a crisis that Manuel spoke of in an over- heard private aside to Ricardo as, “a stimulus for us to offer the best quality we can for the lowest prices in the market”. To give a local flavour to the event, a couple dressed in the Chasna costume held the rib- bon to be cut, and entertain- ment was provided by a carni- val dance group. The company’s commercial tactics are obviously working as the huge turnout at the grand opening proved, with many vis- itors trying out the comforta- ble beds and sofas etc. Very few people went away empty handed, and some with more Crusader Ref. 6-5225.04.001 Stainless Steel Sapphire Crystal 10 ATM Water Resistant Swiss Made NEW BRAND Local B31, Planta 1 38660 Costa Adeje Tenerife C.C.
