Community Food Bank
Do you often wonder why we do a second collection the
third weekend of the month and if the money is ever used?
Members of our parish take the time to call the food bank and
see what they need on their shelves and then they purchase these items for
the needy of our area. Every quarter, our parish cooks and serves the
Community Meal and money from our collection goes for this too. Febru-
ary 3 will be our turn for this event. Volunteers would be appreciated.
Next weekend is our Community Food Bank Collection. Please be
generous in giving what you can. “Whoever is generous to the poor lends
to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deeds.” Proverbs 19:17

From-the-Desk-of-the Pastor,
We are very happy to joyfully extend greetings and good wishes to Bishop Joseph M. Siegel, D.D., our new Bishop of Evansville! The
Bishop joins us today as he will bestow the Sacrament of Confirmation upon 36 of our young people as they continue their journey of
faith within the Catholic Church. This being the first time Bishop Joseph will be visiting us in our parish of St. Mary, we all look for-
ward and welcoming to our Bishop for many other pastoral visits. I wish to sincerely welcome, and offer our prayers to Bishop Siegel as
he begins as the 6th Bishop of Evansville, The Chief Shepherd of our Diocese. God Bless You Bishop Siegel, welcome to St. Mary
Parish, and prayerful best wishes as we all joyously welcome you to The Diocese. (Fr. Erbacher, “Effie”)
St. Mary Parish is looking for nominations for the 2018 St.
Maria Goretti Youth Distinction Award. Any high school stu-
dent who actively lives our his/her Catholic faith is eligible to
receive this distinction. It is recommend that a parish honor Jun-
iors or Seniors in high school, however, grade or age should not
be the sole determinate in selecting those to be honored. No
more that 2 students are to be nominated by our parish. It is rec-
ommended that those nominated be active in both religious edu-
cation classes and the parish youth ministry program. This is a
recognition of the youth’s involvement in many aspects of life –
family, parish, community and school. Please send your nomina-
tions to Fr. Erbacher, by letter or email, or drop in the collection
basket. Nominations need to be received by January 22.
