    PURPOSE

Configuration status accounting (CSA) is the process of creating

and organizing the knowledge base necessary for the

    performance of configuration management

In addition to acilitating M! the purpose o SA is

to provide a highly reliable source o confgurationinormation to support all program or pro"ectactivities including program management

    systems engineering

    manufacturing

    software development and maintenance

    logistic support

    modification

    maintenance.

    Configuration Status Report Include

A list of the configuration items that comprise a baseline

The date when each version of each configuration item was

    baselined

A list of the specifications that describe each configurationitem

The history of baseline changes including rationales for

    change

A list of open change reuests by configuration item !eficiencies identified by configuration audits

The status of works associated with approved change

    reuests by C".

    Four Principle

    hange Re#uests A Change #euest (C#) is a general term for a reuest to

change an artifact or process. The general process associated

with C#s is described in Concepts$ Change #euest

%anagement. Categories Aging (Time &ased #eports)'ow long have Change #euests of the

various kinds been open *hat is the +lag time,, of when in the lifecycle

defects are found- versus when are they being fied

!istribution (Count &ased #eports)'ow many Change #euests are

there in the various categories by owner- priority or state of fi

Trend (Time and Count #elated #eports)'*hat is the cumulative number

of defects being found and fied over time *hat is the rate of defect

    discovery and fi

Build Reports &uild #eports list all the files- their location- and

incorporated changes that make up a build for a specific

version of the software. &uild #eports can be maintained both at the system and

    subsystem level$

    %ersion &escriptions Similar to #elease /otes- 0ersion !escriptions describe

the details of a software release.

Audits There two kinds of audits that are covered in the

    contet of Configuration %anagement

    1$2hysical Configuration Audits

    3$4unctional Configuration Audits.
