Such was his intention when, behold, the angelof the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph, son of David, do not beafraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that thischild has been conceived in her. She will bear a son and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins." All this took place to fulfill what theLord had said through the prophet: "Behold, the virgin shall be with child and beara son, and they shall name him Emmanuel," which means "God is with us." WhenJoseph awoke, he did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took his wifeinto his home. He had no relations with her until she bore a son, and he named himJesus.

FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME1 Cor 15:1-11

Now I am reminding you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you indeedreceived and in which you also stand. Through it you are also being saved, if youhold fast to the word I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. For I handedon to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins inaccordance with the scriptures; that he was buried; that he was raised on the third dayin accordance with the scriptures; that he appeared to Kephas, then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at once, most of whom arestill living, though some have fallen asleep. After that he appeared to James, then to allthe apostles. Last of all, as to one born abnormally, he appeared to me. For I am theleast of the apostles, not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the churchof God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me has not beenineffective. Indeed, I have toiled harder than all of them; not I, however, but the graceof God (that is) with me. Therefore, whether it be I or they, so we preach and so youbelieved.

Put to death, then, the parts ofyou that are earthly: immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and the greed thatis idolatry. Stop lying to one another, since you have taken off the old self with itspractices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed, for knowledge, in theimage of its creator.
