Configurable Products in Magento To add a product with options for example a scarf has several colours or clothing has several colours and several sizes available.

Log into your shopping cart:

Username:

Password:

Go to Catalogue > Manage Products

Click on Add Product

Click on either Clothing or Scarf

Clothing allows you to add Colour and Size to a product.

Scarf allows you to add just Colour to a product

Set the Product Type to Configurable Product and click Continue.

Check both boxes for Clothing Size and Clothing Colour and click Continue.

Under the General tab, enter Name, Description, Short Description. The SKU should be a number unique to the product. The Status should be on the Enabled setting. And the Visibility should be on the Catalog,Search setting.

After filling this in click on the Saved and Continue Edit found in the top right hand corner

After that you should be taken to the Prices page, if not just click on prices in the menu on the left.

Then fill in the form as follows, entering the Price and setting the Tax Class as None

After filling this in click on the Saved and Continue Edit found in the top right hand corner again *It's good practice to do this often*

Then click on the Meta Information in the menu on the left side of the screen:

Enter the Product Name and then enter key words for the product, the words need to all be separated by a comma as follows:

Save and Continue Edit again.

Next click on the Images in the menu on the left side of the screen.

Click on the Browse Files... button:

Select the image of the product you are putting in double click on image or press Open:

Then once you can see it has been opened (circled) click on the Upload Files button

Once uploaded follow the image below, under the Label option give your product a short title, it will

show when a customer rolls over the image with their mouse. Then in the jumpers column select the circles under Base Image, Small Image and Thumbnail then click Save and Continue Edit

Click on Associated Products in the menu on the left side of the screen:

In the Quick simple product creation box;

-You will have to add in Weight or type in the number 0 -Change the Status to Enabled -Change the Visibility to Catalog,Search -In Clothing Size select the smallest size in this case size 12 -In Clothing Colour select one of the colour options for that product, in this case Beige -Change Stock Availability to In Stock and enter the Qty, in this case 1 in stock. -Then click the Quick Create button.

You will then see at the bottom of the page that this option has been entered in(circled):

Notice that when you go back up to the Quick simple product creation the Weight, Status, Visibility, Qty and Stock Availability has automatically entered the previous settings.

This time you will need to select the same Clothing Colour as before but the next size up in the Clothing Size. And click Quick Create

Just check the product has gone in at the bottom of the page again(circled):

Continue this process with the Clothing Colour staying the same, all the way though to the largest Clothing Size.

Then follow exact same process but with the Clothing Colour changed to, in this case, Purple:

It should then look something like the following image:

Double check that you have entered every option for the product and that all the checkboxes on the left hand side are ticked (circled area).

Click the Save and Continue Edit button on the top right hand corner

Then click on the Inventory in the menu on the left hand side of the screen:

Change the Stock Availability from Out of Stock to In Stock.

And then click the Save and Continue Edit button.

And then back to the menu on the left and click on Categories:

Check the correct category, in this case it's French Designer Wear.

And then click the Save button next to the Save and Continue Edit button you have been using.

Now that product should be up on the website, but it's worth checking each time you upload one to make sure it has gone up on the correct page and that the option's are there and working, so open the website in another window and Congratulations, hope you have enjoyed following this tururiol.

Adding more colour/size options to choose from.

So again log in with your details (if not already) and select Catalogue >Attributes>Manage Attributes.

These Attributes are in alphabetical order, this is where you will go to add any extra option you do not already have, the 3 places to edit your shop item options are; clothing_colour, clothing_size(located at top of page 1) and scarf_colour(located about half way down page 2).

Click on which one you need to add a colour or a new size to.. so we will choose clothing_colour and then click on Manage/Label Options on the left of the screen:

Here you can click the Add Option button

A blank box will show up and just fill that in with the desired colour, we will use gold here as an example:

Fill in both boxes with the colour, the Admin column is how you will view the colour whilst you are editing, the Default Store View is how the customer will view the colour in the shop.

You can add in as many colours as you like here and then click the Save and Continue Edit button you should be familiar with now.

That colour will now be added, and it is the same process for clothing_size and scarf_colour.

And to delete simply click on the delete button next to the colour:

It is now removed from the options:

Before leaving the page click the Save Attribute button.
