Confident Influential Leader Program

1. Bold Goal: Start the program declaring a specific ‘bold goal’ to achieve by the end of the

program. This is an ambitious undertaking which inspires and motivates you to feel ready for/worthy of accomplishing it. Examples might include: ‘raising your hand’ for a next level opportunity or being ‘an impactful thought leader’ in your current role.

2. Alignment with developmental objectives (optional): a. Input from Manager: Use a template for getting input from your manager (and peers

if you want) on their objectives for you in the program. b. Self-Assessment: A pre-program assessment will reveal specific situational

strengths and areas for opportunity as a Confident Leader. (Vicki - You did this already)

3. Four Months of Skills training webinars to build Competence and Confidence

1 live webinar/month, including Q and A (recorded and housed in program portal for viewing at each participant’s convenience.) Month 1 Foundations of Confidence: Shift from Critical to Confident Stop monitoring other’s perceptions of you and worrying how others will evaluate you. Instead you source confidence from within and act in the best interest of the business.

• Identify behaviors that interfere with confident leadership potential • Shift critical self-talk into confidence – be more objective and trust yourself • Articulate your value and get validation from within • Be effective at getting recognized and having support for your vision • Distinguish when Perfectionism is helpful and when harmful • Lift up from your comfort zone to be a Strategic Leader • Trust yourself to make decisions, decide sooner and waste less time • Move forward from perceived weaknesses to grow your contribution

Month 2 Don’t React! Act with Confidence and Command Respect Rise above your emotional reactions and instead be fact based and objective. Know how to turn ‘heat of the moment’ reactions into actions that strengthen relationships and serve desired business outcomes.

• Stay Poised, Not Defensive or “Emotional” • Rise above difficult or intimidating people • Stay fact-based and not take things personally • Be strong without being told you come on too strong • Communicate so that others are inspired by you

• Have more influence by knowing how to get buy in for your ideas • Become a Respected Thought Leader or Change Agent • Feel comfortable making decisions and have others give you a seat at the table • Act in ways that are counter to gender bias

Month 4 Communicate with Confidence: “Ask” and Get a Yes Create your reputation in others minds each time you speak by communicating concisely and powerfully. Others will follow your ideas and be open to your feedback.

• “Ask” effectively (for responsibility, resources, time with important people, salary, sponsorship, etc) so that you get support for your vision

• Communicate powerfully so resistance melts and people support your ideas • Fearlessly offer bold ideas • Have courage to stand your ground and push back (even with senior leaders)

without caving or coming on too strong • Get templates how to approach difficult conversations (e.g., feedback) so its

easier to have the conversation and all parties feel respected • Take risks for opportunities at the next level • Drive more effective ‘role clarity’ conversations with your manager

Feedback about the Confident Influential Leader Program:

“Truly inspirational and highly impactful to me and the organization. Other trainings give encouragement or theories, but don't actually build confidence. Sharon’s content combined with her packaging made it “stick” so we can apply it consistently (we still reference it on a daily basis.) Now we drive change each day. We ask for resources, give feedback up and down the organization, feel strong to push back when appropriate, and influence others for win-win.

100% of the participants rated it as ‘recommended to others’.

It’s enabled me to manage several highly challenging situations successfully. We are forever grateful that we had this training”.

- Cornelia Ecker, Women’s Leadership Network, Procter & Gamble

“I built a new inner voice and made practical changes in my behavior. I used to take much more blame on myself, worry about what other people thought, and think that I wasn’t quite good enough. Now it’s a whole different picture: I started the most successful service line in our region. I developed a very influential position in the firm and have the most confidence I’ve ever had in my whole professional career!”

- Karen V., PriceWaterhouseCoopers

“This program unleashed my fearlessness – my boss even asked me to present for other women in the region on being fearless! I started to stand in confidence in what I do know (not like in the past thinking ‘who am I to…)’ Now I stand in what I know to be true, I feel comfortable leveraging my strengths. I just won a huge project that gives visibility and eminence to our organization.”

- Jennifer

“From doing this course what I got is that I no longer seek other’s approval. I’ve made a shift from individual performer to manager. It feels different – I’m no longer trying to get that ‘sugar high’ from a compliment, now I get my rewards from the results I get and from showing up as a collaborative problem solver. I’m much faster and effective at solving problems at their root cause so I am taking on much bigger challenges.”

Its changed everything for me - I’m now really anchored in my confidence everyday.

- Julie

“Since I joined the program A LOT has changed. I came into the program wanting to have more of a say – and now I am getting the calls. I am being asked to sit at the table when new things are coming in. I’m more goal oriented, controlling what I can control, thinking through the situation before I say anything so when I speak its more insightful. I’ve been bringing a stronger presence to the team.

I have changed quite a few things about how I conduct my work (including the way I write emails, the way I react or don't react anymore). In a recent situation, everybody else was reacting and I was the only one to stay calm. I was the one to fix it and they all came back and said “thank you, good job!” They are now looking at me in a different light, more as a leader.”

– Anne

“I had a meeting with my boss and she commented that I had taken my communication to the next level. I’ve been getting more positive results in meetings.”

- Teresa

“I achieved my bold goal: I got promoted!” - Shannon

“Incredibly impactful” - Donna Grande

“Sharon Melnick is an inspiring, knowledgeable person and this program is a game-changer. It’s been extremely energizing and from the beginning it has enabled me to act more confident in meetings with senior leaders.” -Livia
