“It was low season and we ended up beingthe only people there! Even though it was abeautiful room when I asked could they dimthe lights they said ‘no es possible’. The waiterhovered and made android noises,” says Mark.

In the meantime Mo was a little bit con-fused. “I thought Mark was acting a bit weirdbut I didn’t suspect anything. When we gotback to the apartment I stepped into the bath-room to grab some tissues and when I cameout ten seconds later the place was filled withlighted candles and Mark was down on oneknee. The penny finally dropped!”

The couple decided they didn’t want tohave a hugely long engagement - “we hadbeen going out so long anyway” - and gavethemselves nine months to organise the day.

“We decided to get married in Malta, as myfamily had a summer home there where Ispent many childhood summers,” says Mo “It’sa beautiful Island and I have happy memoriesthere with my mum, who passed away last

“The Iris was my theme, colour and ‘power’flower for the wedding”

year. There are lots of amazing churches andoutdoor venues and is warm most of the yearround so we knew it would be perfect for awedding at the end of September.”

Mo and Mark took a recce there in early2009, contacting wedding planner Sarah Youngthrough her website. On arrival they hadvenue viewings lined up, which is a great timesaver for a couple marrying abroad.

“Although I know the island well, it was bril-liant to have a planner; you need to have some-body onsite and Sarah is, without a doubt, thebest! Sarah came highly recommended througha friend and it’s the best decision we made.”

The couple viewed a number of places andnarrowed it down to two, settling on a venuewhere they could go as loud and as late withthe music as possible. “This is fairly essentialwhen you have a load of musicians and DJs

coming to your wedding,” says Mo.Mo says that the fact she had a planner

meant that she had a lot more free time to doother things. “I hand-painted 108 of myinvites, for example, and also set up a weddingwebsite with all the necessary information forguests - this was a really handy tool.”

There were two pre-wedding events - aFriday night boat trip around the island and aSaturday barbeque. The day itself sailed by in asea of warmth, sunshine and good times.Highlights for Mo were talking to her dad inthe car on the way to the church, Mark liftingher veil and dancing at the reception.

“The best advice I can give to other couplesis just to relax and enjoy the day. It’s meant tobe fun and it is fun. Just think of it as organis-ing a big party with all your favourite peoplearound you and you get to dress up!”

The bridesmaids’headpieces werehand-made toorder by hatdesigner,Jacqueline Layton.“She actuallydyed them tomatch the threebridesmaidsdresses which isan amazing service,” says Mo
