18th INTERDISCIPLINARY CZECH-SLOVAK TOXICOLOGYMEETING TOXCON 2013
Traditional toxicology conference TOXCON2013 was held in Hradec Králové (Czech Republic)from 19th to 21st June 2013. The toxicologists froma variety of institutions, government, academic andindustry from the Czech republic and abroad havethe great opportunity to meet each other at thismeeting annually, alternately in the Czech Republicand the Slovak Republic. The conference was or-ganized by the Czech Society for Experimental andClinical Pharmacology and Toxicology CLS JEP(ČSEKFT) and Slovak Toxicology Society(SETOX). This year, prof. Kamil Kuča was respon-sible for the organizing of this toxicology meetingin the Czech Republic under the auspicesof the University Hospital in Hradec Králové. Co-organizer of the conference was Faculty of Medi-cine, Charles University in Hradec Králové andFaculty of Military Health Sciences, Universityof Defence Hradec Kralove. The organizers regis-tered 142 participants from the Czech Republic,
Slovakia, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Iran. There werepresented 100 poster presentations and 31 lecturesdivided thematically into seven sections.
The opening ceremony was in the diction of rep-resentatives of the co-organizing institutions. Aftertheir introductory words, the program immediatelyfollowed the first block of lectures. The first three lec-tures were devoted to the theme of methanol toxicityand methanol poisoning, which was in the Czech Re-public and Poland in 2012. Next contributions wereon synthetic cannabinoids and possibilities of newtreatment options for rheumatoid arthritis. One par-ticular section was focused on the issue of cytotoxi-city and developmental toxicity. In the traditionalsection of military toxicology were presented the re-sults of current research in the field of antidotal ther-apy, the biological effectiveness of cholinesterasereactivators, bioscavengeres and their use in the caseof poisoning with organophosphorus compounds.

Another separate section of lectures was focusedon the molecular aspects of renal toxicity,carcinogenesis and receptor studies in kidney andplacenta. The final conference lectures were thencomposed of teratogenesis and mutagenesis topics.Program of the conference was complemented bysummary lectures focused on ochratoxin A,possibilities and trends of laboratory analysisin the forensic and clinical toxicology,on the flavonoids contained in red wine. The finallecture, closing the conference, was aimedon development of new chemical entities, and theirtesting in in vitro and in vivo conditions to theirpractical application in the marketplace, which isconducter recently at the Biomedical ResearchCenter which was established in the Universityhospital Hradec Kralove in 2012.
Next, the 19th toxicology conference TOXCONwill take place next year in the Slovak Republic.
