Speakers Profile

Prof. Sybe De Vries is full professor of EU Single Market Law and Fundamental rights and since 2012 the Jean Monnet Chair. His research and his education focuses on EU Single market law and the interconnection between EU free movement law and fundamental rights. He is also the coordinator of the FP7 research project 'bEUcitizenship' on European citizenship, which is financed by the European Commission. The bEUcitizen consortium consists of 26 universities and institutions from the EU and outside. For more information, please consult our website: www.beucitizen.eu. Sybe is a member of the Netherlands As-sociation for European Law and of the editorial boards of the Journal for European and Economic law and the Netherlands journal for Human Rights .

Dr. David Mangan is a Lecturer at City, University of London and an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School (Toronto, Canada). His work spans practice as a lawyer in Canada, consulting engagements as well as lecturing at law schools in Canada and the United King-dom including the London School of Economics, where he completed his doctorate. His research centres on the application of contract and tort in employment and information technology settings as well as issues pertaining to reputation and professional work. He is currently completing an edited collection of essays entitled The Legal Challenges of Social Media to be published in 2017 by Edward Elgar.

Dr. Clemens Rieder is a Lecturer at Queen's University, Belfast. Clemens holds degrees in Law and Political Science from the Universities of Innsbruck, Notre Dame and Reading. He was a Teaching Fellow at the University of Reading and an Academic Fellow at the Univer-sity of Lancaster. His current research project is on boundaries and solidarity in the EU. Prof. Dagmar Schiek is professor of law and holds a Jean Monnet ad personam Chair in EU Law and Policy at Queen’s University Belfast. She directs the Centre of European and Transnational Law and convenes Queen’s University Belfast’s Jean Monnet Centre of Excel-lence “Tensions at the Fringes of the EU”, in which legal scholars cooperate with political scientists. Her research straddles two equally important themes: the impact of EU (legal) integration on socio-economic reality in its Member States and globally and EU law and policy on equality and discrimination. Her first monograph in English, of 2012, is entitled “Economic and Social Integration – the Challenge for EU Constitutional Law”. She plans fur-ther books on a critical assessment of EU anti-discrimination law and a new edition of “Critical Introduction to European Law” (Cambridge University Press).

Prof. Blanaid Clarke, BCL, MBS (Banking & Finance), BL, PhD, FTCD, holds the McCann FitzGerald Chair in Corporate Law at Trinity College Dublin. Her research in-terests include corporate governance, financial services and capital markets and she has published extensively in these areas. Blanaid was appointed to the Irish Central Bank Commission in 2010 and re-appointed in 2013. She also works with the Irish Takeover Panel and is a member of the European Securities and Markets Authority Takeover Bids Network. She is the Irish representative on the OECD Corporate Govern-ance Committee and is a member of the European Commission’s Informal Company Law Expert Group. Previously, she was one of the founding members of the Institute of Directors’ Centre for Corporate Governance at UCD and a member of the European Commission's Reflection Group on the Future of EU Company Law. Blanaid is a co-editor of Legal Studies (UK) and is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Business Law and Palmer’s Company Law.

Dr. Egle Dagylite is Senior Lecturer in Law at Anglia Ruskin University and Fellow of the Centre of European Law at King’s College London. Egle has been a stagiaire at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg and holds degrees from King’s College London, Uppsala University, and Mykolas Romeris University Lithuania. She specialises in European Union law, human rights, social justice, migration and legal education. Her co-edited book on European solidarity is forthcoming with Edward Elgar.

Dr. Juan Jorge Piernas López is a Doctor of Laws from the European University Insti-tute in Florence (2013). His doctoral thesis has been published by Oxford University Press under the title “The Concept of State Aid under EU Law: From internal market to competition and beyond”. He had formerly graduated from Harvard University (LL.M., Harvard Law School 2007), the College of Europe (Master in Advanced Europe-an Studies, Natolin, 2009) and the University of Murcia (Law degree, 2003). Juan Jorge is currently assistant professor of European Union law at the University of Mur-cia and consultant to the World Bank in State aid matters. He previously worked for Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton (Brussels, 2007-2009) and DG Competition (2006).
