2nd REVISED BASIC COURSE WORKSHOP ON MEDCIAL EDUCATION TECHNOLOGIES
Prof & HOD, Dr.M.Chandrasekhar, Professor Dr.Neelambikai & Assistant Prof. Dr.Punita
were participated as resource person and delivered lecture on various topics in the “2nd Revised
Basic Course Workshop on Medical Education Technologies” under the auspicious MCI on 23rd,

Physiology attended the 10th International Conference on Environmental
2017
The Department of Physiology of Saveetha Medical college has organized a National
Undergraduate Conference on updates in altered physiology of Non-communicable
Diseases named “CHIASMA 2K17” on 11th October 2017 to 12th October 2107 in their
college premises. This conference was aimed to enhance better knowledge and awareness
on the updates of the Non-communicable diseases. Around 300 undergraduate M.B.B.S
students from various colleges around the Nation participated in the workshop. Under the
guidance of Department of Physiology of Meenakshi Medical College Hospital & Research
Institute nearly 15 undergraduate M.B.B.S students participated in the conferences

In this national conference for the undergraduates conducted various interesting events
such as debate, quiz, essay writing, poetry writing, case presentation, poster presentation,
painting and photography competition which were based on the Non-communicable
disease. Students of MMCH&RI participated and won exciting prizes.

The plays enacted by the students were liked by the audience and judges and hence they
received 2nd prize on competing with various other college students around the nation.

National Conference on Sleep Physiology (THUYIL – 2017) of Association of Physiologist of Tamil Nadu
(APT)
The 11th National level - Annual Conference of Association of Physiologist of Tamil Nadu (APT)
was held on 28th & 29th October 2017 at Government Stanley Medical College, Chennai. The faculties,
PhD Scholars and Undergraduate students of Meenakshi Medical College participated in this National
Conference which was attended by 500 delegates all over Tamil Nadu.

SUPERANNUATION CME
The Vice Principal, Professor & HOD of Physiology Department
Prof.Dr.M.Chandrasekhar was invited as a guest speaker in the Superannuation CME of
Dr.Neelambikai, Professor & HOD of Coimbatore Medical College on 31st October 2017.
Prof.Dr.Shanmugavadivu, Department of Physiology, welcomed the gathering which was
followed by the inaugural address by Prof.Dr.B.Asokan, the Dean, Coimbatore Medical
College.
The Guest Lecture was given by the Vice Principal on “Physiology Learning, Teaching
and Research” How to take it forward!! He insisted the importance of learning and
teaching of Physiology and how to take it forward to the future generation with the
updates of recent advances in Physiology.

retirement from the medical services.
GUEST LECTURES GIVEN
The Vice Principal, Prof. Dr. M. Chandrasekhar of MMCH & RI participated
and delivered a guest lecture in the 33rd National Conference organized by the
“Independent Medical Practitioners Association of India” on 12th November,
2017 at Hotel Deccan Plaza, Royapettah, Chennai. Around 50 participants from
various branches of Medicine all over India participated in the programme. The
guest lectures were given by the experts from various specialties all over India.

The session started with guest lecture given by Dr.Sengottuvelu, MD.,
DM., DNB Cardiology. He spoke on the “Recent advances in intervention
cardiology”. Next, Dr.Bahrat Loganathan, MS., D.Ortho., MRCS, Ortho Surgeon
discussed on “Recent advances in managing osteoarthritis”.
Following this, Dr.Kaladevi, ophthalmologist gave an elaborate lecture on
“Recent advances in eye care”. Then, Dr.Periyandavar, Diabetologist, spoke on
the “Managing diabetes in general practice”.
The Vice Principal, Prof.Dr.M.Chandrasekhar, MMCH & RI delivered a
lecture on the “Non-Pharmacological Management of Obesity”. He discussed
in detail the dietary management, physical activity, yoga, meditation and
behavior therapy for the management of Obesity.
38th National Conference of Indian Association of biomedical Scientists (IABMS)
The faculties, Ph.D., scholars PG and UG students of the Department of Physiology
attended the 38th National Conference of Indian Association of biomedical Scientists
(IABMS) and a National Symposium on “An insight into Biomedical Research for Health
Care” held on 23rd to 26th November 2017 at Saveetha Medical College, Thandalam,
Chennai.
Around 1000 faculties, PhD Scholars and Undergraduate students from various
Colleges all over India participated in this National Conference. Dr.Sarada Subramaniam
Memorial Pre-Conference Workshop was conducted on the first day. Our 8 Undergraduate
students from all the batches of MBBS participated in the Pre-Conference Workshop. They
were facilitated by the hands on practice on mannequins in “Basic Life Saving Skills”.

CME on the occasion of “World Obesity Day – 2017”
The Department of Physiology in collaboration with Medical Education Department
has organized a CME on the occasion of “World Obesity Day – 2017” on 6th December,
2017. The CME was awarded 2 Credit Hours by the TamilNadu Medical Council. The CME
started with registration of faculties & students of MMCH & RI.
The programme was inaugurated with Tamil Thai Vazhthu followed by lighting of
kuthuvizhakku by the dignitaries.

The Scientific Session I was started at 11.00.a.m. on “Biochemical Basis of Obesity” by Dr.
Ursula Sampson, Professor & HOD of Biochemistry, MMCH & RI. The second session was on
Pathophysiology and Non-Pharmacological Management of Obesity by the Vice Principal,
Professor & HOD of Physiology, MMCH & RI.

It was followed by the speech of Dr.Rajesh, Associate Professor of Pharmacology, on
Pharmacological Management of Obesity. The last scientific session of the day was taken by
Professor. Dr.Padmanaban,M.D.,D.M., on Recent Advances and Overview of Obesity.

Following a delicious lunch, the students awareness competition on Anti obesity Day was
held for the I year MBBS students of 2017-18 batch in various categories such as Role Play,
Essay Writing, Slogan Writing, Oration, Collage followed by an Aerobic Obesity Dance.

delegates all over India. A hands-on preconference workshop on Spirometry and
Audiometry was conducted on day one. The workshop was attended by our Students and
Faculties (Dr.P.Punita, Mrs.K.Suganya, Mr.K.Suresh and Ms.Raveena Raghavi).
