Name: Student ID: 00895825 I attended the Fullerton Guitar Orchestra on May 15, 2009, 8PM held at Meng Concert Hall, CSUF Clayes Performing Arts Center at California State University Fullerton, 800  N. State College Blvd., Fullerton CA. It was d irected by David Grimes. The Fullerton Guitar orchestra consists of 17 classical guitarists and they played music which was composed and arranged for multiple guitars. The whole performance was divided into two equal 50 minutes part. The orchestra performed an international program which they are planning to use for their upcoming tour to Bulgaria. The performance included works  by Nikolas Ikonomou (Cyprus), Annette Kriusbrink (Netherlands), Veselin Stoyanov (Bulgaria), Roland Dyens (Tunisia-France), Thierry Tisserand (France), Hansjoachim Kaps (Germany) and Carlos Perez (Chile). There were also selections played by a quartet and a trio. The first part of the performance was Thalassini Spoudi by Nikolas Ikonomou (August 11, 1953-December 29, 1993) and it was related to the classical period. The next item played was “The Chippewyan Naildance” composed by Annette Kruisbrink. After that they played Toccata by Veselin Stoyanov, which was very interesting to watch how they were plucking the strings and lightly fingered the instrument. The last item in the first part of the performance was Hamsa from Roland Dyens (1955). The second part of the performance included Estampas which is guitar quartet by Federico Moreno-Torroba (March 3, 1891-September 12, 1982). After that they played Baiao de Gude by Paulo Bellinati (1950). After that they played Couleur Milonga by Thierry Tisserand, Alcazar de San Juan by Hansbjoachin Kaps and Divertissements sur un Theme de Vivaldi composed by Carlos Perez. . I really liked the Thalassini Spoudi by Nikolas Ikonomou. This is my first interaction with music, especially with live performer. I really felt in to it while listening to this part of the performance. It was a totally different experience for me at that moment. All of the performers were actually enjoying their performance while playing on the stage. I was able to see some seriousness on the performers’ faces but I was not able to spot any nervousness on their faces. It was a wonderful experience to see that they are very dedicated and well experienced. They were trying to connect the audience as they were playing, which I felt an important connection between them and the audience. Overall it was well organized and the performers were knew what they were doing. The concert hall was not full and most of the seats were empty. The audience was very well behaved, but at the same time they were appreciating the performance and the  performers by applauding at the end of each piece. At the end every body stood up and gave standing ovation to the performers.

I was never been to any live performance, so this is the first live performance I have ever

seen. Overall I should say this is very good experience I had and I really felt connected to

the music. Throughout the concert I felt a connection to the music and it was a wonderfulexperience, which is very hard to express in words. I took my uncle with me since he is a

big fan of classical Indian music and always inspired me to attend the Indian classical

concerts. I will definitely go and hear the Fullerton Guitar Orchestra again since I learnedlot of things form it and I will be better prepared and well educated the next time.
