In our 15th year, the Kingfield POPS is ecstatic to bring back Sultans of String for a world class musical collaboration with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. Thrilling their audiences with their genre-hopping passport of Celtic reels, flamenco, Gypsy-jazz, Arabic, Cuban and South Asian rhythms, the group celebrates musical fusion and human creativity with warmth and virtuosity. Acoustic strings meet with electronic wizardry to create layers and depth of sound, while world rhythms excite audiences to their feet with the irresistible desire to dance.

The Kingfield POPS is proud to offer stage duties to local tal-ent, Lula Wiles. This nationally emerging group of young women will be a huge force on the Americana scene for years to come. All three ladies studied at Berkeley in Boston and are now performing at premier festivals and clubs throughout the East Coast. Fiddler/guitarist Ellie Buckland and bassist Mali Obomsawin were born and raised in Farmington, Maine!Onstage, the band gathers tightly around a single microphone for a spirited live show that resonates like a whiskey-slap to the heart. Proficient vocalists, multi-instrumentalists, and songwrit-ers, the three women of Lula Wiles are each uniquely powerful in their own right; but combined, they are a force to be reck-oned with.

The festive sounds of the Western Mountain Trash Can Band, a local steel drum ensemble, welcome POPS guests to the Kennedy Farm every year. The band is a community group that spreads the joy of live steel drum music to help support steel drum programs in the local school district. The Band performs at ven-ues throughout the region including the New England Steel Drum Festival.

Jason Spooner Band

Ghost of Paul Revere

Maine Youth Rock Orchestra

It's hard to imagine that in 15 years of the Kingfield POPS, The Jason Spooner Band will be appearing for the first time. It was well worth the wait. New England’s own Jason Spooner Band is in the midst of one of the most exciting musical growth spurts to date. This quartet stands out with an interesting signature sound appealing to a wide range of audi-ences...seamlessly blending a variety of musical in-fluences and flavors into a cohesive and extremely energetic experience. Roots rock, Americana, blues, folk and groove-oriented jazz with some elements of reggae and soul are all accounted for and sup-ported by strong musicianship, interesting arrange-ments and intelligent songwriting.

In celebration of the POPS 15th year, organizers continue with their shared mission for youth educa-tion and exposure by showcasing a collaboration between Ghost of Paul Revere and Portland’s Maine Youth Rock Orchestra, (MYRO). MYRO is a 501((3)© organization that provides orchestral string students from 14 Maine high schools with educational opportunities working and performing with professional artists in an alternative setting. The MYRO community seeks to ignite a passion for performing in concerts of all genres while demon-strating what it is like to be a professional musi-cian. The Kingfield POPS recognizes this successful educational opportunity for Maine students, and gives two thumbs up for the initiative.

The Kingfield POPS is fortunate to announce the return of the nationally touring Ghost of Paul Re-vere in a headlining and collaborative capac-ity. Boston Globe raves, “The Maine-grown, foot-stompin’ holler-folk quartet create the type of music for which festivals are made.” Band success is an understatement.

In addition to being voted Best in Maine at the New England Music Awards, they have a top selling al-bum in Maine and New Hampshire, and they had sold out shows at Port City Music Hall, The Strand, and Stone Mountain. They also headlined a New Year’s Eve show for 1,600 enraptured fans at State Theater in Portland.

Their new album, Field Notes Vol. 1 was released this spring: perfect timing for the Kingfield POPS

Our sincere thanks to Wendy and Jeff Kennedy,

who allow us to host the Kingfield POPS on their beautiful field, year after year

and to NE Wire Company for the generous use of their property.

In addition to the annual concert that draws thou-sands of people to Kingfield every summer, one of the major goals of the Kingfield POPS is promot-ing music education in our local classrooms, expos-ing youth to a variety of musical performances, and collecting and distributing used musical instru-ments.

This years the POPS coordinated performances that reached more than 600 kids in our local school districts, featuring Portland Symphony Orchestra’s KinderKonzerts and the Peter Kilpatrick Band.

The Kinderkonzerts performed 2 shows on May 25th, one at Mt. Blue Auditorium for RSU 9 and the other at Strong Elementary for SAD 58 and Strat-ton students. The percussion session entertained Pre K-1 students where they were told about the instruments through stories.

On Friday, May 26th, The Pete Kilpatrick Band performed for the Mt. Blue Middle School students in the morning and in the afternoon for the SAD 58/Stratton students at the Kingfield Elementary

School. The band really identified with the students and the kids loved it.

Kingfield POPS continues to bring encouragement to area youth interested in music and arts,. Two scholarships were awarded to local graduating high school students who are pursuing college education in the fields of Music, Arts or Music Technology. Graduating seniors Darby Sabin – Mt. Blue High School and Samantha Taylor – Carrabec High School were each awarded a $250 scholarship. Con-gratulations to Darby and Samantha.

The Kingfield POPS Scholarship Program is new this year and is offered to 4 local High schools (Mt. Abram, Mt. Blue, Carrabec and Carrabassett Valley Academy) for local students.

Your generous contributions to the Kingfield POPS do far more than fund today’s concert. They help us work to instill a love of music and art in our local youth throughout the year. To learn more or contrib-ute, contact us at [email protected],

“The Kingfield POPS brings world class, year-round music and arts events to Western Maine to spawn lifelong interest in music and the arts in area youth, strengthen the community and

drive positive economic development.

The Kingfield POPS began in 2003 as a project of the Mt. Abrams Economic Devel-opment Association to bring tourists to the area in order to boost the local economy and provide a fun family event that would be of value to the local residents, despite the downturn in our local economy.

Organizers believe that a high quality sum-mer performance surrounded by the area’s natural scenic beauty would attract cultural tourists to the area and ultimately lead to new economic development opportunities. The group wished to build on the area’s strengths, including the natural Beauty and the existing tourism infrastructure .

The ultimate goal was to stimulate economic development in our area and to provide mu-sic and arts programming for regional resi-dents, schools, and visitor to the area.

Now in its 15th year, the Kingfield POPS continue to bring live performances to the area throughout the year and supports music education and scholarships in local schools with educational programming and instru-ment donations.

The POPS is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit and relies on the generosity of our sponsors and donors. To donate visit us at www.kingfieldpops.com
