Neil BrownlessMusical Director
Neil Brownless is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Brass Band Conducting at the Royal Welsh College of Music under the tutelage of Dr. Robert Childs. He has been conducting Abingdon Concert Band since 2013. In that time the band has put on many themed concerts; including Storytelling, Around the World in 80 Minutes, Symphonic Beach Party and more. Neil’s direction of the band has seen growth in membership, the 40th anniversary of the band (including anniversary beer), two sold-out performances of the Snowman accompanying the film, and Gold awards at both the regional and national events of the National Concert Band Festival.
Neil was Musical Director of Towcester Studio Band for 5 years which resulted in six contest wins and six top-6 placings at competitions. Neil has also had contest success with Olney Brass as well as guest conducting concerts with Championship section bands Kidlington Concert Brass and Goodwick Brass among many other lower section brass bands. Neil also led the Oxfordshire Youth Wind Orchestra on their 2019 tour to Ravenna in Italy.
Neil has concert programmes planned with Abingdon Concert Band for the next few years and is looking forward to continuing a long and successful partnership with them.
Abingdon Concert BandThe band was formed in 1977 as Abingdon Military Band and the formation of instruments remains the same as that found in modern military bands. Over the years the band has given over 200 public performances. The band plays a range of music from classic concert band pieces to film scores and television music, musicals, Disney and contemporary arrangements for concert band. The highlight of 2019 must be our Gold award at the National Concert Band Festival at the Royal Northern College of Music in April. We have also enjoyed performing for audiences in Abingdon, Henley and Reading.. Many thanks for your continued support.
