Camera • Throughout the video the director has used many different camera shots. The

first one that I identified was the establishing shot. This was soon as the music video started and was used to show the audience the scene in which the video has took place. In relation to this particular video the camera shows a dark and wide room at the beginning and also shows outside where it is night time and snow is starting to fall .

• The next camera shot I saw was a tracking shot. This occurred around one minute thirty and it was used to introduce the dancers which at the time were all sitting down on different chairs as the camera moved along the line of them . The director used this to help the audience see that there are many different characters throughout the music video and as if we the viewers at home are following them too.

• The next shot I identified was a close up of Lady Gaga’s face. This shot was illustrated throughout the video and was the most popular camera shot used. It allowed us to see Lady Gaga up close and see her emotion in her face. The shot was also used at the end as well as she was lying down and the camera zoomed into her face . This shot is an extreme close up .

• Throughout the music video there was clear evidence of Mise-en-scene displayed.

• The costumes used were very unusual . The dancers at the start had nothing except shorts and shoes on and later on this changed to leather clothing. Lady Gaga also wore black leathered clothes at the start but as the video got longer many costume changes were evident , for example she changed to a costume which was the colours of red and white and then at the end wore a top and pants which were both black .The costumes created an effect on the viewers as they are very different to what others would wear and the costumes shown are not something that anybody could wear on a day to day basis.

• There was also props used such as a cigarette , this was shown near the start of the music video and the artist had told of the prop as if to look like she was in charge as she was sitting on a chair above her dancers who were made to look like they were dancing for her . Another prop used was beds. These were used by the dancers and also Lady Gaga as they appeared to dance on them and some shots showed them tied to the bed.

• The setting changed throughout the music video. Firstly the setting looked as if it was extremely cold as it was dark , icy and snow was falling quite heavily .After this shot the setting changed form outside to inside were the lighting was very dark and there was not a lot of light. This could have been used to create a mysterious effect and let the audience wonder what is happening or wonder where the video is actually taking place.

Sound

At the start of the video we can see that the dancers are stopping their feet. As the video starts to kick in , the sound of their feet is heightened to create a effect where the audience feel quite tense and on edge. This type of sound is diagetic sound as its natural . As the stomping gets faster we can also hear the drums start to join and every time the they stomp their feet it matches the beat of the drum .

I could also pick out the sound of a blizzard , which was only slight but let the audience believe the weather was bad and not warm and sunny.

The other sound was the music. I could hear drums and the piano all throughout the video and this was to make the song sound more professional.

Editing • The main editing used in the video was continuity editing as most shots

looked very smooth after every transactions.

• I also witness the use of flashback near to the end which showed a man keep appearing with a buttoned up jacket and hat. The flashbacks were also showing previous shots of Lady gaga lying down and also of the dancers .

• • Another technique used was slow motion. This was displayed when Lady

Gaga was thrown into the air by her dancers and as soon as she was thrown it went from fast to slow. This was also used when the artist was dancing solo near to the end , this could have been used by the director to show lady gaga dancing in a relaxed and peaceful way .
