Project organization
Proposal
• Responsible leader: prof. Jari Iinatti• Project manager: Lich.Tech. Matti
Hämäläinen• Project secretary: M.Sc. Raffaello Tesi
CUBS Steering group Kick-off meeting, Jan 27, 20045
Overall and detailed research plan for 2004
• CUBS extends the research started in FUBS with – old work packages– new work packages– application of interest: military sensor network
• Planned to last three years (2004-2006)• Goal: demonstrate UWB sensor network
operation at the end of 2006• Currently, the funding is approved only for 2004
CUBS Steering group Kick-off meeting, Jan 27, 20046
• During 2004, the preliminary research work for sensor network demonstration will be carried out by CWC
• At 2005, a subcontractor will be involved to the project– hardware design and implementation– PJMicrowave is the most probable
candidate to be a subcontractor due to the good co-operation in FUBS
CUBS Steering group Kick-off meeting, Jan 27, 20047
Work packages• WP1: Multiband UWB system
– In FUBS only single-band UWB concepts have been studied
– IEEE802.15.3 promoted MB-UWB for high data rate applications
– Performance with interference in AWGN and real channels
• Models based on FUBS can be used
– Schedule: months I-XII– Work amount: 15 mm– Output: journal paper, two conference
papers
CUBS Steering group Kick-off meeting, Jan 27, 20048
• WP2: Single band UWB systems – the original UWB PHY approach– continues the work started in FUBS– simpler and more cost effective than
MB-UWB
– Schedule: months I-XII– Work amount: 13 mm– Output: journal paper, two conference
papers, two M.Sc. Thesis (channel modeling)
CUBS Steering group Kick-off meeting, Jan 27, 20049
• WP3: UWB sensor networks– LPD/LPI capable military sensor network concept– low power consumption, low PSD– aiming for demonstrator at 2006
• T-MIL: Requirement specification for the future UWB sensor communication development to be carried out on 2005-2006. (2 mm)
• T-LOC: Development of UWB based location algorithm for sensor network (7 mm)
• T-POW: Power efficient communication protocols
(8 mm)
– Schedule: months I-XII – Work amount: 17 mm– Output: journal paper, two conference papers
CUBS Steering group Kick-off meeting, Jan 27, 200410
• WP4: Co-existence – using the second generation UWB
transmitters• FCC capable• adjustable PRF and TX power• bipolar pulses, Tp is about 200 ps
– Schedule: months I-XII– Work amount: 8 mm– Output: one journal paper, one
conference paper
CUBS Steering group Kick-off meeting, Jan 27, 200411
• WP5: Capacity – single band and multi-band UWB – information theoretic approach
– Schedule: months I-XII– Work amount: 6 mm– Output: 1 journal paper, 1 conference
paper
• Administration: 1 mm
CUBS Steering group Kick-off meeting, Jan 27, 200412
• Channel modelling– hospital– forest
• supplementary path loss measurements
– do we need?– own WP or to be included in existing
WP?– man months need to be transferred
from somewhere else
