Abstract

Object of the study are proverbs verbalizing the concepts of

НЕКЕ/MARRIAGE

Subject of the research is the

analysis of linguacultural

characteristics of proverbs about

family and marriage in Kazakh and

English languages

The purpose of this work is to give a comprehensive description for linguacultural specifics of a concepts "family" and “marriage” at paremiological

level in Kazakh and English languages.

In the Dictionary of Cognitive Terms the concept is defined

as “operational meaningful unit of memory, mental lexicon, conceptual system, brain

language, and the whole picture of the world reflected in the

human mind” in the verbalized form. CONCEPT

A.P. Babushkin considers the concept as a discrete mental unit which reflects the object

of real or imaginative world and is kept in the national memory of

native speakers in theverbalized form

In general usage the term mainly denotes “idea” or “notion”. In a narrower sense it is an abstract

idea or a mental symbol sometimes defined as a "unit of

knowledge", built fromother units which act as the concept's characteristics.

Proverbs are of particular interest for the study of cultural identity, as

they relate to such units, which may contain cross-language differences not only at the “semantic” level –reflecting realities, but also at its

second," connotative floor”.[1,p. 17]

misery and vice versa.

grief .Share each other’s joy, feel each other’s pains. In marriage, tears and smiles make the music

of life.; Dress-up and have fun

together outside, undress and have fun

together inside. Two persons living in a

holy matrimony must avoid slipping into

Leave a poem on her kitchen table after a quarrel;

similarity, put a love note in his lunch

box. Never yell at each

other unless the house is on fire.

Never both be angry at the same time.

Neglect the whole world rather than each other…(13)

Avoidance of quarrels and try

find ways to save a marriage.

Try not to see faults and to forgive each other's mistakes.

You can love and be angry at the same

time, wink at her after the quarrel.

No one is perfect; forget each other`s

faults. Keep your eyes wide open before marriage, half shut afterwards.

The greatest secret of successful marriage is to treat all disasters as incidents and none of

the incidents as disasters…(11)

There is no perfect family,

scandals happen in the best families. Accidents will happen in the best regulated

families. Every family has a skeleton in the cupboard…(6)

Conclusion

It can be concluded that family and marriage have a greater meaning in Kazakh mentality in comparison

with English: even in the quantitative plan. Also it must be noted that there are more proverbs about family relations while in English paremiology prevails the idea of relations between spouses which include

common goals, aspirations. This phenomenon can be explained by the difference of cultural values accepted

in Kazakh and English traditions.
