Executive Summary

At the 2009 Auto Shanghai (which was held on April 22 to 28), European and US auto manufacturers

exhibited 20 concept cars and reference exhibits including hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and electric

vehicles (EVs) and 52 models (including six models that they also plan to produce in China) that they

have recently started importing and selling and are planning to import and sell.

Concept cars and reference exhibits that European and US auto manufacturers exhibited

Buick Business concept: It is a global concept of a high­end MPV. It debuted in the world.

A joint venture development center between GM and SAIC Motor Corp. took the initiative of its development.

It plans to feature GM’s next­generation hybrid system that employs a lithium­ion battery,

idling stop system, regenerative brakes, etc.

M­Benz Blue Zero E­Cell concept: It is an EV concept car that is planned to be produced starting in 2010.

It uses a lithium­ion battery. It is 4220mm in length, but is capable of seating five passengers.

The luggage capacity is 500L (It houses a battery, etc. under the double­layered floor).

BMW concept 7 Series ActiveHybrid: It is a hybrid concept car in 7 Series,

which the company plans to start producing in 2009. It debuted in Asia.

BMW concept 5 Series Gran Turismo (GT): It is Progressive Activity Sedan (BMW's name),

which was made public at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show.

The auto manufacturer says that it integrates a sedan and a sports activity vehicle

as well as a sporty GT car. It debuted in Asia.

Technical Automotive Center (PATAC), a joint development center between GM and

SAIC Motor Corp., took the initiative of its development. The model is planned to

use GM's next­generation hybrid system that employs a lithium­ion battery, an

idling stop system, a regenerative brake, etc. (it uses a direct­injection 2.4L

engine). Its fuel consumption will be improved up to 20% than that of LaCROSSE

HEV, which is also currently imported and sold in China. 5278/1985/1809 with a

It is a racing car model based on Cruze and will participate in the 2009 WTCC. It

turbocharged 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine with a maximum output of 264kW. It is also

equipped with an in­car entertainment system, SYNC.

It is a concept car of a compact MAV (Multi Activity Vehicle) that was announced

increasingly use in its future models.

It is also equipped with Collision Warning with Full Auto Brake.

maximum output of 70kW, and a lithium­ion battery. The maximum speed is

producing in 2009. It debuted in Asia. It comes with a twin­turbocharged 4.4L V8

ActiveHybrid, is a mild hybrid system for large vehicles and is co­developed with

Daimler. The motor is used for auxiliary power. The maximum output of the motor

is 15kW. The maximum torque is 210N・m. The capacity of the lithium­ion batteryis 800Wh. The auto manufacturer says that the fuel consumption is improved by

15% as compared to the same type model.

verification test in North America starting in 2009. It comes with a 35kWh lithium­

ion battery. The rated output of the motor is 150kW (204PS and the maximum

torque is 220N・m. The 0­100km/h acceleration time is 8.5 seconds. The vehicleweighs 1465kg. It can cruise up to 240km on a full charge. It takes 2.5 hours to full

Lotus 2box Details are unknown. It is said to be a hatchback that Zhejiang Young Man

Chevrolet Captiva: It is a 5­/7­seat SUV (selling price: 224,800­372,800 RMB),

import/sales of which began in November 2007. Shanghai GM's Yantai plant

(Shanghai GM Dong Yue Automobile) is expected to start production in 2009.

M­Benz New E300: It is a fully­remodeled new E­class. It debuted in Asia.

It is scheduled to be launched in July 2009.

The selling price is expected to be 600,000­700,000 RMB (Subscription sale began in April 2009).

The auto manufacturer plans to shift to production at Beijing Benz in the middle of 2010.

VW Tiguan: It is an SUV. In May 2009, the auto manufacturer has started receiving orders

for import and sale of a 2.0L TSI engine model (selling price: 350,000­400,000 RMB).

Shanghai VW will start producing a 1.4L TSI engine model as early as in 2009.

Audi Q5 3.2: It is an SUV that debuted in the world at the Auto China (Beijing) 2008.

The auto manufacturer started to receive orders

for import and sale of a 3.2L FSI engine model in April 2009 (selling price: 750,000­850,000 RMB).

In China, FAW­VW's Changchun plant plans to start production in 2009.

Lotus RCR (Gen 2 sport): It is a sports sedan based on Proton Gen 2.

The import and sale began in January 2008 (selling price: 129,800­149,800 RMB).

It comes with S4PH, 1.6L Campro 4­cylinder engine with a maximum output of 82kW,

which meets Euro IV emission standards.

CKD models at Guizhou Young Man Lotus Automobile's Anshun plant are scheduled

to go on the market in May 2009. In the latter half of 2009, production is planned to start

at Zhejiang Young Man Group's Jinan plant and Tai'an plant in Shandong prov.

Lotus RCR Gen 2 3box: It is a sedan based on Proton Gen 2. In November 2008,

New Buick Enclave: It is a flagship model of Buick SUV (3­row, 7­seat).

GM started importing and selling a new model that underwent full­remodeling

in December 2008(selling price: 519,000­594,000 RMB).

It comes with a 3.6L V6 engine with a maximum output of 215kW.

Chevrolet Volt (PHEV): It is a series plug­in hybrid electric vehicle designed for China.

Production will begin in 2010, and import and sale of it is also planned to start in China in 2011.

GM says that it is a model that creates a new class ­ E­REV (Extended­Range Electric Vehicle)

where there are no competitor models.

Dodge JCUV: It is a crossover, the import and sale of which began in March 2009

New Porsche Panamera: It is a new 4­door GT sports sedan that debuted in the world.

It is scheduled to be launched in Germany in September 2009,

in North America in October 2009, and in China in January 2010.

The price ranges from 1.85 million RMB. It comes equipped with a 4.8L V8 engine

with a maximum output of 294/368kW and a twin­clutch transmission PDK.

The fuel consumption is 10.8L/100km for an S specification (price range: from 1,843,000 RMB),

(the selling price is planned to be 1.6 million RMB). The fuel consumption is 7.9L/100km.

smart fortwo coupe mhd: It is a cabrio specification (2­seat) of the smart fortwo,

which features an idling stop mechanism.

The import and sale of it began in April 2009 (selling price: 158,000­176,000 RMB).

"mhd" stands for micro hybrid drive and it also means

that the model is equipped with an idling stop system.

When the driver presses on the brake and the vehicle coasts to a speed below 8km/h,

the engine automatically stops. When the driver releases the brake, the engine restarts.

(The fuel consumption under the Japanese 10­15 mode is 23.0km/L. The CO2 emission is 101g/km)

New Mini Cooper cabrio: It is a 4­seat cabrio model.

It was shifted to a new­model basis later than the other specifications.

The import and sale begins in May 2009 (Subscription sale started in April 2009).

It comes with a 1.6L engine with a maximum output of 88kW. The fuel consumption is 6.9L/100km.

It is equipped with a leather seat as standard equipment.

Chrysler also exhibited Jeep Commander (launched in April 2007. 649,900 RMB), Jeep Grand

Cherokee 3.7L (launched in March 2008. 421,900 RMB), Dodge Crossover Caliber SXT (launched in

March 2008. 230,000 RMB), Chrysler PT Cruiser (only 1,000 units are imported and sold. 239,900

RMB), and Chrysler Grand Voyager, which Soueast Motor produces (3.59 million RMB).

(launched in March 2007. 642,000 RMB).

VW also showcased Eos (launched in May 2008; approximately 300,000 RMB), R36 (launched in

March 2009; 492,000­528,000 RMB), and Phaeton 2009 (price range: from approximately 1.3 million

RMB). It also exhibited a racing specification of Touareg for reference. Audi showcased a super sports

car, R8, a new sports coupe, S5, and a long­specification new A8L (import and sale is scheduled to

begin in September 2009).

PSA also showcased 207CC hard­top sports sedan, 307CC, which can be transferred to an open car,

307SW, which is equipped with panoramic sunroof, and Coupe407 sports sedan under Peugeot brand.

It also exhibited Citroen­brand racing specification, C4 WRC for reference.

Daimler showcased a variety of models such as new S­class, new GLK300, GL450, ML350, SLK300,

CLS300, and CL600 (including AMG series). Under Maybach brand, two models were exhibited

including new Maybach Zeppelin, which debuted in Asia. The smart urban, which is a special

specification of the smart with decorative painting on the exterior, was exhibited for reference. A

frame model of the smart fortwo was also displayed.

BMW also showcased M3 (1,066,000 RMB), M5 (1,858,000 RMB), and M6 (2,298,000 RMB) in M

series, and X3 xDrive30i (665,000 RMB), X5 xDrive30i (837,000 RMB), and X6 xDrive50i (1,778,000

RMB) in X series. In addition, it displayed 740Li luxury model (1,355,000 RMB) and New 7 Series

Individual, and exhibited Z8 sports car for reference. Under Mini brand, it showcased Mini Cooper S

(385,000 RMB), Mini Cooper Clubman (369,500 RMB), etc.
