Installation

Please make sure you have formatted all of the shared storage device(s) in FAT32 before you connect them to your new USB Storage & Print Server. Your USB Storage & Print Server will only work with FAT32 formatted storage device(s), and may not function properly if it is connected to unformatted storage device(s).

I. Hardware Setup

1 Connect your USB Storage & Print Server to your networking device (e.g. network router) using a network cable.

2 Connect the power adapter into the DC-IN port, located on the back of your USB Storage & Print Server, and plug the power adapter into an available wall outlet.

3 Turn on your computer.

4 Connect your pre-formatted USB storage device(s) to an available USB port of your USB Storage & Print Server.

II. Administrator Login

1 Please make sure your USB Storage & Print Server is on (the power LED will be flashing orange) and working properly.

2 Open Microsoft® Internet Explorer and type “http://usbshare/” into the address input field, and then press <ENTER>.

3 A login dialog box will open, type “admin” for both the User Name and Password, and then click “OK” to login (NOTE: If you log out you must wait 60 seconds before you can log back in).

Administrator Control Panel

Before using your USB Storage & Print Server, please login to the Administrator Control Panel and configure the device following the instructions below:

Network Settings

1 To open the Network Setup page, click “Network Settings”.

DHCP Client – By default, your USB Storage & Print Server obtains a dynamic IP address from your network device automatically.

If you want to set a static IP address for your USB Storage & Print Server, select the “Static IP” option and input the desired information, and then click “Apply” to save the changes.

Sharing Services – Enable/disable the FTP and/or SMB servers. When the server is disabled users will not be able to use these functions.

Host Name – The host name of your USB Storage & Print Server.

Workgroup Name – The workgroup that the USB Storage & Print Server belongs to.

2 Click “Apply” to save the changes you have made.

NOTE: Make sure to restart your USB Storage & Print Server after you have made any changes to the Network Setup.

File Sharing

By default, any storage device(s) connected to your USB Storage & Print Server are shared. All users accessing the connected devices will have full permission to the files in the connected storage device(s). You can limit the user’s read/write file permission by following the instructions below:

1 To open the User Management page; click “File Sharing”, and then “User Management”.

2 To create a new user account, click the “New” button, type in a “User Name” and “Password”, then click “Apply” to add the new user. (Note: The “User Name” must be lower case). Repeat this step to create additional user accounts.

3 To remove a user from the User List, check the box to the left of the user’s name and click “Remove”.

4 To open the Sharing Folders page; click “File Sharing”, and then “Share Folders”.

5 Each USB device connected to your USB Storage & Print Server is represented under the USB Port List. Select a USB port you want to configure from the list and the setup page will open.

Folder Name – Type in a name for the USB storage device. This name will be used to represent the USB storage device when a user accesses the USB Storage & Print Server.

Allow Guest – By default, this option is enabled. When this is enabled, all anonymous users have full permission to access all folders and files on this USB storage device. (Note: If you wish to set user permissions on a user by user basis, this option must be disabled).

User Permission – Set read/write permissions for each individual user:

Deny – The user will not have permission to access this device.Read Only – The user can ONLY read and copy folders and files from this device.Read Write – The user can read and write folders and files to this device.

NOTE: Please be aware that user access permissions are for the USB ports ONLY, data saved on the attached devices is NOT protected once they are removed from the USB Storage & Print Server.

6 Click “Apply” to save your changes.

7 Once you have created the User Permissions, the user must login to the USB Storage & Print Server; see the “Login through FTP” section of this manual for more information.

Administration Settings

1 To open the Administration page, click “System Admin.”, and then “Admin Settings”.

Administrator Name – Input a new login name for the administrator.

Administrator Password – Input a new password for the administrator.

Password Confirmation – Input the new password again to confirm your new password.

System Restart – To restart your USB Storage & Print Server, select “Yes”, and then click “Apply”.

Restore Factory Default - To reset your USB Storage & Print Server to the factory settings, select “Yes”, and then click “Apply”.

2 Click “Apply” to save your changes.

Time Settings

1 To open the Time Settings page, click “System Admin.”, and then “Time Settings”.

Sync Time with PC – Check this option if you want the time and date of your USB Storage & Print Server to match the clock on the computer that you are currently accessing the Administrator Control Panel from, then click “Apply”.

2 Follow the onscreen instructions to set the correct time zone, and then set the current date and time. After you have made all your changes, click “Apply” to save.

Firmware Update

1 To open the Firmware Update page, click “System Admin.”, and then “Firmware Update”.

2 Click “Browse…” to open the dialog box, then browse to and select the firmware file. Click “Open” to open the selected file.

3 Click “Apply” to update the firmware with the selected file.

Conf. Save/Restore

1 To open the Conf. Save/Restore page, click “System Admin.”, and then “Config. Save/Restore”.

2 To save the current configuration, click the link “usbshare.cfg”, and then follow the onscreen instructions to save the file to the desired location.

To check or restore a saved configuration, click “Browse…” to open the dialog box, then browse to and select the configuration file. Select the desired upload action, then click “Open” to open the selected file. Click “Apply” to restore the configuration with the selected file.

Reports and Stats

1 To open the Event Logs page, click “Reports and Stats”, and then “Reports”.

The event logs list shows all the activities processed through your USB Storage & Print Server.

Login through FTP

To access the files and folders stored in the storage device(s) attached to your USB Storage & Print Server, please follow the steps below. For Windows® ME users, please only use the Login through FTP method to access the files and folders stored in the storage device(s).

1 Open a web browser (e.g. Microsoft® Internet Explorer), and type “ftp://usbshare/” or “ftp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx” (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx represents the IP address for your USB Storage & Print Server) in the address input field, then press <ENTER> to login.

2 To login with your user name and password, click “File”, then “Login As…”.

3 A login dialog box will open, enter the assigned user name and password, and then click “Log On”.

4 After you have successfully logged in, you can access the folders and files according to your user permissions.

NOTE: Please transfer files that are 2GB or less. Files larger than 2GB may not be transferred correctly.

Printer Server Setup

Connect a USB printer to your USB Storage & Print Server via a USB cable, and then follow the instructions below:

NOTE: Please make sure you have successfully installed the printer driver for your shared USB printer onto your computer(s) before you continue. Your printer may not function properly without the correct drivers. Most printer drivers can be downloaded from the manufacturer’s website.

For Windows® ME

Before you add your shared printer to your computer, you must install the print server utility for your USB Storage & Print Server. To install the utility, please follow the instructions below:

Installing the Print Server Utility (For Windows® ME Only)

1 Make sure your computer is turned on; place the Driver CD into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.

2 Click “Start”, then “Run…”, type “D:\PrinterUtility\Setup.exe” into the dialog box (NOTE: “D:\” represents the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive you are using. If D is not your CD-ROM drive, substitute D with the correct drive letter.), then click “OK”.

3 At the welcome screen, click “Next”. Read the installation notes carefully, and follow the onscreen instructions to install the utility.

4 During the installation, the setup screen will appear. Change the “IP Port” according to the port number your USB printer is connected to, and then click “Printers...”.

USB Port 1 – 9100

USB Port 2 – 9101

USB Port 3 – 9102

USB Port 4 – 9103

1 At the Printer setup screen, input the correct information as followed:

IP Address: Input your USB Storage & Print Server’s IP Address (Note: The IP address can be found by logging onto the USB Storage & Print Server using http://usbshare).

Name: Create a name for this printer port. (Note: Spaces are not allowed in the Name field).

Port: Input the USB port that your shared printer is connected to. This is the same 91xx number you used in the previous section.

Description: Input a brief description for this printer port.

After you have entered all of the information for your shared printer, click “Add” to add the printer to the list, and then click “OK”.

2 Click “OK” to finish the setup, and then click “OK” again to complete the installation.

3 After the utility installation is complete, you can add your shared printer following the instructions below:

Adding a Printer (For Windows® ME Only)

1 Click “Start”, then “Settings”, and then “Printers”.

2 Double-click the “Add Printer” icon to start the “Add Printer Wizard”. Click “Next”, then select “Local printer”, then click “Next”.

3 Select the printer’s manufacturer and model from the lists, and then click “Next”.

Note: If you are prompted to replace the existing driver with a new driver, please select “Replace Existing Driver”, and then click “Next”.

4 Select the printer port you created in the previous section, and then click “Next”.

5 Enter a name for your shared printer, then click “Finish”.

6 After you have installed your shared printer, it will be listed in the “Printers” folder and is ready to be used.

Note: This print server supports any USB printer that supports IPP printing. For questions regarding this, please contact your printer’s manufacturer.

For Windows® 2000 & XP

1 Click “Start”, then “Settings”, and then “Printers”.

2 Double-click the “Add Printer” icon to start the “Add Printer Wizard”. Click “Next” to continue.

3 Select “Local printer attached to this computer”, uncheck the option “Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer”, and then click “Next”.

4 Select “Create a new port”, then select “Standard TCP/IP Port” from the drop-down list, and then click “Next” to continue.

5 At the “Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard”, click “Next”.

6 Type the IP Address of your USB Storage & Print Server, then create a port name for this USB printer, and then click “Next” to continue. (Note: The IP address can be found by logging onto the USB Storage & Print Server using http://usbshare).

7 Select “Custom”, and the click “Settings…”.

8 Update the “Port Number” to the correct port of your USB Storage & Print Server.

USB Port 1 – 9100

USB Port 2 – 9101

USB Port 3 – 9102

USB Port 4 – 9103

1 Click “OK” to save the custom setting, then click “Next”, and then “Finish”.

2 Select the printer’s manufacturer and model from the lists, and then click “Next”.

3 Your computer may ask if you want to keep the existing driver for your printer. Select “Keep existing driver (recommended)”, and then click “Next” to continue.

4 Specify a printer name for your USB printer, and then click “Next”.

5 Your computer may ask if you want to share your USB printer, select “Do not share this printer”, and then click “Next” to continue.

6 Select “Yes” to print a test page after the setup is complete, and then click “Next”.

7 Click “Finish” to complete the installation and close the wizard.

8 The printer will print a test page. After the test page has printed, your printer is ready to be used.

Note: This print server supports any USB printer that supports IPP printing. For questions regarding this, please contact your printer’s manufacturer.
