THE VISION OF THE SEDA IS

ECONOMICALLY THRIVING, SOCIALLY
VIBRANT & WELCOMING COMMUNITY
FOR ALL!
The Staples EDA actively works to attract, develop and
support economic growth in the Staples community.
The Staples Economic Development Authority (SEDA) was established by enabling resolution number 801 on April 14, 1992 by the Staples City Council.
SEDA was created to promote the economic, commercial, housing and industrial development and redevelopment of the City. SEDA is overseen by a seven
member board comprised of the Mayor and two council members as well as business representatives from education, health care, retail and industrial
sectors. The Staples EDA is required to hold an Annual Meeting that is held in conjunction with its regularly scheduled meeting on the fourth Tuesday in
the Month of April. The SEDA will create an annual report which is presented at the annual meeting.

Comprehensive planning The City went through the process of updating its Comprehensive Plan. This is a 15 year plan, which
is the leading policy tool that can help citizens and local leaders work together to more efficiently guide
future growth and development, while protecting the community’s quality of life and unique story.
It was a major community effort by the residents and leaders who worked together to develop
solutions to create more opportunities for citizens. This plan is intended to assist the City, businesses,
developers, landowners, and citizens to manage and guide orderly growth and development of the
community.
The will be available on the city’s website, as a coffee table book for easy access for all who are
interested.

Featured Project of 2017
Timberlake Hotel and Timbers Restaurant Over the last 10 years, Staples has been actively seeking additional lodging
and restaurant companies to build in the community. Hospitality had been
identified as a gap in the community in both facets, food and lodging and
had proven difficult to attract. It was definitely worth the wait though!!
In 2016, the Ives family of Grand Rapids, started the process of expanding their family hospitality brand
‘Timberlake Lodge’ to Staples. In mid-2017 the beautiful Staples Timberlake Hotel and Timbers restaurant
opened and are serving the lodging, dining and catering needs of local employers, residents and visitors!
Timberlake Hotel offers 52 rooms including standard rooms, extended stay suites, king suites and spa suites. The
hotel offers other amenities such as a swimming pool and hot tub, party room, laundry and business center!
